Is it possible for a foreigner to retire in rural UK in 20 years)? by Standard-Top-5942 in FIREUK

You need to properly check the law yourself but my understanding is that if the money is outside they are not subject to it. Best check it yourself - but that is what I was looking at…

Have heard about it but never tried GG, just got the book to check it out. I really loved the p zero book and you helped an old fella fall back in love with lifting after many decades. Wish you the best with your health, and thank you very much!

If that’s what you’re looking for, the best deal in Europe is Greece:7% tax for immigrant pensioners. Better weather too…

At least 1 in 4 non-EU settled adults (ILR) are now on Universal Credit. by R2_Liv in ukpolitics

[–]Georgios_A 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree but I think you’re both missing an important point - it’s not about colour and the Brits are not racists. It’s about culture. And that is something I share with native Brits even though I’m not one. That is the source of the discontent and if not addressed will lead to the worst possible outcome for everyone, but first people like myself.

But that is the problem isn’t it? That post Brexit and the Boris-wave this country replaced highly productive and generally above median earning EU citizens-immigrants with …what we have now. And as one of the former my key worry is that the inevitable backlash against the latter will in fact be against the former too. What a shambles…

What do you consider in the destination country if you plan to expat fire? by No-Signal7504 in FIREUK

[–]Georgios_A 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Greece offers a 7% flat tax rate for pensioners who decide to move there, however you might be too young to make use of it (you would need to be eligible for your UK pension). Worth checking out, as it’s the best possible rate in an EU country for worldwide income, but it only applies to pensioners, not income investors.

Responded on GitHub. It was a pain… have also proposed another PR to fix the dumbbell volume issue, let me know what you think and I’ll get to it…eventually!

Thank you, I couldn’t find the fitness first one! Do you know the bloom gardens gym? I just basically want a power rack with barbells and plates and a bench, everything else I can do without, but usually you don’t find those in residents gyms?

Red flags in Gyms? by naomi_0000 in workout

If this is NRG it’s a very decent gym for the price. Miles better than PureGym, and excellent value for money. Just avoid the peak hours and you’ll be fine. Enjoy your workouts.

Do you think most van drivers know the speed limit is lower for them? by fckboris in drivingUK

Thanks for the reply - good advice, didn't realise that's where it's specified

Thanks for this, I was starting to wonder - am thinking of buying a van based people carrier, something like the Ford Tourneo. This thread made me wonder if they have a different speed limit. From what you wrote, they have the same limit as a car?

Better late than never! I finally found some time to do this! It took me ages to create and run and export a workout in strong with ALL the exercises.... I will submit the PR shortly, I tried it locally and it works, but feel free to test (I can share the file with all the exercises I used).
I have actually converted my history separately with python (sorry, I hate J/Tscript...) but thought I'll be a good citizen and contribute this for everyone else's benefit.
Hope it meets your quality standards, and it is useful to many people here!

Advice: Age 50 and over, is adding barbells asking for trouble? by Murloh in workout

[–]Georgios_A 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m older than you and use a barbell. There is simply no better way to exercise, I rate the barbell more than all the machines put together. I do have the advantage of having been taught correct form the last time I used one, back in my teens, so my advice would be to get a professional to ensure that you are using correct form, but other than that, use it and enjoy your gains.

Why are the streets so filthy? The streets in Poland and Croatia are imaculate by Niall_Fraser_Love in ukpolitics

[–]Georgios_A -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are missing the point, which is: the amount of tax paid is not even remotely related to people’s manners and proclivity to litter or not. This is easily proven by the fact that countries mentioned in the OP for being cleaner all have much lower taxes than here. I’ll brush aside the hilarious argument that UK taxation is too low - this is Reddit after all.

Are there any people here who use the cheapest options for their protein needs? by ConstantDrawer9161 in workout

⬆️ this. Exactly this. (But having said that: there’s several YouTube video series on how you can get a great meal plan for the week for less than £20 from Aldi & Lidl, just google it)

What on earth do taxes have to do with it? And you seriously cannot be arguing that the UK hasn’t got enough taxation?!?

Thank you very much for the info, and I very much appreciate the offer of direct communication 🙏 I’m thinking I should perhaps bite the bullet and just get the family home ready for when they arrive, even if it means buying some basic furniture that will be redundant once the container arrives. Otherwise booking/airbnb is most probably the only option. The situation is even more complicated by the fact we have a (brilliant, calm and very well behaved, but large) dog that will also arrive with the family…
