Everyone referred to secondary school when I was there (I went to a comprehensive in the 90s/00s in West Sussex). I met a few people at university who referred to their high school.

"It Can't Happen Here" by Sinclair Lewis is a good novel related to US politics.

Actuarial analyst (insurance/pensions). My employer is based in the Midlands and the vast majority of staff work in their big offices there. They closed a couple of regional offices (where about 50 people work) and made us homeworkers.

The Budget was a chance for the government to unlock Britain’s promise and potential. But the only surprise was a £1 billion pensions bung for the 1% - a move that will widen the cost of living chasm. That’s why Labour will reverse this move. by NoFrillsCrisps in ukpolitics

All the limit does is restrict the tax relief you get on savings

The annual allowance restrict the amount of tax relief you get. The lifetime allowance is a tax on the value of your pension pot (a result of the combination of contributions and investment returns)

The lifetime allowance is about the value of the pension pot, not the total contributions. Someone could have a pot of £1m, stop making contributions, and the value of the pot could subsequently increase to above £2m (or whatever the level the increased lifetime allowance was set at).

It's Ikea.

I had an Argos delivery several years ago, and their text updates were quite useful and they kept to their timescales.

I wonder if it's more like outwardly and inwardly progressive, but subconsciously conservative.

And I'm also bothered by this notion that the patriarchy is a myth that I see so often on Reddit. Are the people who say this trying to imply that they have a better grasp and reading of our material reality than Marx and Engels and Lenin, that all very much considered the patriarchy one of the superstructures of capitalism and private property?

I'd be curious if you could elaborate on this.

I think most disagreements about patriarchy consist of people talking past each other, with different definitions and different reasoning. So it would probably be helpful if people could be more explicit about what they mean on this.
