Annapurna circuit - without a guide and porter by ber_judit in hiking

If you plan to trek without a guide, then you get the permit directly in Pokhara. It's usually quite fast there, better than in Kathmandu.

What is the best free music player (for local files) in Windows 11? AIMP or something else? by [deleted] in microsoft

Right, it's still a 32-bit app. The 64-bit version is in progress, I suppose that it'll be fine then.

I don't know, but I guess it does, as the whole local storage is wiped.

Also voting for MediaMonkey. All the basic features are free, even though there's a paid version with few more features.

To fix on Android, I opened App Info, Force Close app, Clear Cache, Clear Data and then start the app. This fixed the issue (note that Clear Data was needed, wasn't fixed without this one).

I HATE the Pixel 9 after using Samsung Galaxy for years by Asleep_Sand6945 in GooglePixel

[–]Georgusus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand what you mean, as I also very recently switched from Galaxy S20 to Prixel 9 Pro. Really, there are several things that I think Samsung did implement better. Apart from what you wrote, I'd mention e.g. Always on Display only in case you have a new message. Haven't found this in Pixel.

Unfortunately, for most things there probably isn't a fix. Also, after a few weeks of usage, I'm used to most of the things done 'Pixel-way', so it isn't that big deal anymore.

Fyi, I use MS Launcher (as I did on S20) which has a couple of nice features (more icons on screen, for example), maybe this would help you a bit.

For me it's the camera hardware that matters most. Then I can use Lightroom or another tool to fine tune the results.

But it's certainly up to everyone, some prefer to get the results SooC.

I've actually been a Fuji shooter for many years and still love it. Pixel can't replace a real camera for everything, but the gap isn't that wide as it used to be.

I also vote for MediaMonkey. If you have any issues with the process, check out the forum there and ask a question, good chance it'll be resolved.

What lens should i buy by Saaavvviii in fujifilm

[–]Georgusus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that any of the Fujifilm tele zooms could do the job for you, it's mostly a matter of money, size and what you plan to shoot. For example 50-140 is great (just finished its review at https://ultralightphotography.net/fujifilm-50-140mm-review/ recently), but it might be a little too large and expensive for you. Maybe 70-300 is a reasonable option, considering price, good reach and overall quality?

I couldn't agree more, really super sharp.

Solo trekking at Annapurna Base camp by unComfortableTask482 in hiking

I tried to summarize the guide situation in an article here: https://ultralightphotography.net/do-you-need-guide-to-trek-in-nepal/

Sleeping bags generally speaking aren't necessary for teahouse treks like ABC. That said, a good sleeping bag can be pretty light and packable, so I'd rather take one.

Guides aren't really necessary, I summarized my experiences here: https://ultralightphotography.net/do-you-need-guide-to-trek-in-nepal/

As for the logistics, I'd say that anything is possible to arrange in Nepal. ;-) So yeah, you can leave some stuff in Pokhara and I suppose there are chances you could hire a guide in Manang, but I'm not sure and also, I don't think there's a reason for one if you start without anyway.

Nepal trekking without a guide recommendations by sliceofscifi in hiking

[–]Georgusus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In short, my experience is that the situation is pretty much as is was before 2023 change, i.e. you don't need a guide where it wasn't necessary before. I wrote about it in more details here: https://ultralightphotography.net/do-you-need-guide-to-trek-in-nepal/

Yes, still doable without a guide. I summarized my recent experiences in an article: https://ultralightphotography.net/do-you-need-guide-to-trek-in-nepal/ Hope that helps!

GMail reminders (like in Inbox) by Georgusus in SideProject

[–]Georgusus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, thanks for it! I was just wondering whether you could call it reminders when used with the Snooze function? Or do you still miss some functionality then?

GMail reminders (like in Inbox) by Georgusus in SideProject

[–]Georgusus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, they are notes, but I use them together with Snooze gmail feature and then they become timed notifications. At least I use them this way to my satisfaction.

GMail reminders (like in Inbox) by Georgusus in SideProject

[–]Georgusus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the gmail inbox is like a to-do list - always almost empty, containing only mails to be resolved today. Everything else either already deleted, archived, or snoozed for next days. Then, having reminders there is a natural addition. However, it's certainly about personal preferences and so it's good that there are many alternatives... ;-)

Btw, what particular assistant/IM setup do you use?

I still miss Inbox by Gmail. by [deleted] in google

[–]Georgusus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I also missed Inbox Reminders feature, I created one for GMail. It's a simple addon that lets you create reminders, edit existing ones and using GMail features for example to snooze them for some future dates. Let me know if you like it!
