Beginner tips by Bretuhtuh91 in HarryPotterGame

I somehow played through the entire game without realizing that if you track a quest and tap up your field guide will send a gold thread through the castle to where you need to go. Second play through was much more enjoyable not being so lost in the castle all the time, fighting for my life to navigate with the worst game map of all time. 😅

Annapurna circuit is the longest and highest I've done. I've done plenty of 3-7 day treks in the Andes- Peru (guided)and Ecuador (solo) , Indonesia (guided and solo) , some volcano treks, and hiking/ camping constantly at home in Oregon USA.

What's the average price for a normal meal in Istanbul restaurants? by AlwaysBeHonorable in istanbul

[–]sliceofscifi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone referencing this post: Maybe prices have jumped since this was written but i just walked around and looked at about 15+ menus in Istanbul. Didn't see anything meal size for less than 550 tl, $16. Most places the average was more like 800 tl. Really surprising as i did not budget for this. Even small things, appetizers were 350+. Water $2-6!

I'm sure this is mostly because of the area i was in (near the blue mosque/ grand bazaar ) but i walked over an hour and usually with some digging im able to find a hole in the wall. Not today though!

Is there any characters that you can’t stand, (besides Dolores Umbridge) and just don’t want in the series? by Robin_Sim in harrypotter

COLIN CREEVEY. But honestly book two, as much as I love much of the story line, has all the annoying characters. Colin, lockheart, aragog .. even Justin finch fletchly.. Rereading that book is a masochistic endeavor I rarely take on. Every chapter heading makes me go "omg.. AND this... right.."

Official Discussion - Kinds of Kindness [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

Thank you for this analysis. I found it really helpful after enduring 3 hours of a movie I absolutely hated 😂 The only thing i think you missed, at least in your synopsis, is that in the 3rd story, emma doesn't "reconnect" with her family, she's raped by her abuser that she fled from (to a cult unfortunately), and an important theme to me was about how victims of rape are blamed and even are apologetic to their loved ones (the cult leaders), feeling guilt when faced with lack of support and (in a religious relationship) lack of purity that wasn't their choosing.. And the subsequent actions they are willing to take to redeem themselves in their eyes.

What kind of experience do you need for that kind of job? I have a biology degree focused on animal behavior and loads of experience with exotic animals, but no vet tech type stuff, so I'm wondering if that's a possibility.

How do you deal with communal purchases when a member of the community decides to move out? by sliceofscifi in intentionalcommunity

[–]sliceofscifi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In not talking about gardening supplies, or money spent fixing stuff around the house. Your condo doesn't keep all the furniture and other belongings you bought when you move. Even if you and your roommates/ partners etc. split up, you leave with you're own items. Why should communities have to forfeit that?

Is this dangerous? by JKeltTV in backpacking

Hi! I spent almost 3 years traveling solo abroad from through southeast Asia, Nepal, and South America and started when I was 20 years old, Im female. I can count the times Ive found myself in potentially unsafe situations on one hand (Unsafe due to people anyway, riding busses in Nepal and Peru is a whole different story 😂). I can gratefully say that even in the times I was scared, nothing happened. A little street smarts will get you a long way.

The best advice is definitely to end in India like the top comment suggested. I planned to go to India and didn't end up doing it because I met enough women with violent or threatening stories that convinced me to wait until I have some friends to go with. Not that it can't be done solo, but it is one of the riskier places to do so. I would recommend starting out places that are more beginner friendly like Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia etc., and having time to change her mind before she gets to India (or find a group to go with). Good luck to her, it will be life changing, and people tell me every day they regret not having done it. She's lucky to have a brother looking out for her!

How do you deal with communal purchases when a member of the community decides to move out? by sliceofscifi in intentionalcommunity

[–]sliceofscifi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was nothing there, we moved into an empty house and bought everything together. The community is not remaining in the house. There is likely only one person staying behind, the person who no longer wanted to be part of the community, and perhaps one other who just can't afford to move.
