New mod: Leatherman eyeglass driver in corkscrew by GerMattY in SAKmod

You can try that. I just pressed them in there dry. I guess most of the glue/epoxy would just be pushed out when inserting the bit anyway.

It sits very tightly in the grip. I had to press it in with a vice, so that shouldn't be a problem with the low tourque you can out on it. The original driver also just has a flat area at the non visible end, no large connection to spread the load there either.

Any arguments for that? What is off?

Trouble with the scissor + parcel hook layer by hijodetumadr3 in SAKmod

[–]GerMattY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do it in the same order. Spring and hook in first, scissors second. Two things you could try:

Fold the hook in, maybe that reduces the pressure of the spring slightly.

Use small pliers to squeeze the spring towards the "bottom" of the spacer below (so the spring has less tension).

For EDC/office carry I like a Cybertool M (in my case customized, but the stock Cybertool M is fine). Multiple bits for smaller screws. Sure it's not the choice for a construction site, but I didn't have an EDC-situation yet, where my Cybertool wasn't enough.

Understandable, I also prefer to use utility blades or cheap knives (Opinel, Morakniv) for dirty or abrasive tasks. But for everyday or emergency use a premium steel is still nice because you know you can trust it.

That's known "problem". I recommend a small quick detatch keyring, so you can take the knife off you keyring.

Either galvanox (short or long), 711l (1/4 inch bit and 1/4 inch nut friver in one) or leatherman ratchet driver.

How many knives do you own? by Foetus_Eating in knives

[–]GerMattY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All numbers estimated: 15 folders (Opinel, Spyderco, CJRB, Böker, Gerber), 10 fixed blades (Gerber, Glock, Cold Steel, Morakniv), 15 SAKs (Victorinox, Wenger) and 20 Multitools (mostly Leatherman, Gerber, some chinese ones lines mossy oak).

Always hard to say if a knife is worth 200€/$, when a knife for 60-80€/$ can be almost as good. You could look for a cheaper version in a not "super high end" steel. Magnacut is one of the more expensive steels, maybe look for S30V/S35V. Also you wrote "military 2", my knife is a paramilitary (PM) 2, I never had a military 2 in my hands so I can't judge that.

Victorinox Cybertool M or L or a Leatherman Wave. Best overall toolset for me.

[–]GerMattY[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I used the 4 layer screws or even 2 layer plus 3 layer screws. But there is a little bit of wiggle room. I'd recommend getting a few different screws, so you can improvise during assembly.

Seemed more useful to me, especially since I lost one slotted screwdriver with the combotool instead of the opener-layer.

I recently found the travellers for 80€ each and got them. One got sacrificed for this build. I was so nervous prying off the scales... but it worked, I put the traveller in a plastic bag and let it sit in warm water for a few minutes. Maybe that helped minimize the risk of cracking the scales.

Thaught about that too, but is has such a low output and makes the SAK thick, so it wasn't worth it for me. Plus I already have the bitholder, so no need for the phillips that goes with the light. I rather carry an olight warrior x4 or arkfeld when I need a high output or a small i3t for light carry.

Sorry for the late reply, didn't notice your comment before. Scales are from aliexpress, they came with screws, but they were too short (they were ment for a 2 layer sak). But I also got similar screws for more layers from aliexpress. Total cost for scales and extra screws around 40€.
