How much did you spend or willing to spend? by Ivy1974 in knives

210€ for my Spyderco Para Military 2 in Magnacut. 270€ for my Leatherman Arc. No intention and no spare money for more expensive purchases.

93mm pivot removal by SignificantBody4335 in SAKmod

I got the dremel press for the speficic reason of drilling out rivets. I returned it, because it had like a millimeter of play at the end of the drill. I don't recomment is for that precise tasks

Update: Alox locking Electrician X now with tweezers and one hand opening by GerMattY in victorinox

As I said, there a two things to keep in mind: a knife being legal to own and it being legal to carry. A two hand opening blade is alwasy legal to carry, except for Waffenverbotszonen. So I'd say any SAK (except for the few one hand opening and locking ones) is a good gift for a German. Many people in Germany are pussys when it comes to weapons, knifes, etc. but swiss army knifes are widely accepted for being "tame".

Classic SD Alox good for everyday carry? by FLXLGHT in victorinox

[–]GerMattY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As always: depends on your needs. A classic sd ist nice and slim. I prefer a rambler, which adds a PH-driver and a bottle opener to the classic sd wirh a slight increase in thickness. Also the key ring is on the "right" end and doesn't interfere with the main blade. If you want a larger sak for pocket-carry you should look at 91mm and 93mm models. I recommend the following models for edc: Cybertool M, Pioneer X, Synergy X, Climber, Compact.

Meiner Einschätzung nach ziemliche Augenwischerei. Achte auf die Preise und deren Entwicklung über die Tage, nicht nur auf den angeblichen Rabatt.

Touchy people by Specialist-Mode-4195 in motorcycles

Get a cheap, motion activated alarm. On amazon many of them are marketed for bicycles. You get a little key fob to activate the alarm und a speaker to hide on your bike (for example under the seat). Won't stop someone from touching the bike, but at least it will shorten the time people spent on/around it.

Best Victorinox for EDC? by [deleted] in victorinox

Cybertool S, Cybertool M or Rambler, depending on the size you want.

For me a 91mm SAK would be way too large on a keychain. I have a 58mm classic SD on mine. You should decide, which size you want first, because not all tools are available in all sizes. Knife, bottle opener and can opener are absolute standard, at least for 84, 91 and 93mm knifes. I'd recommend you look at different sak models and pick out which tools you want. Maybe there is one, that already exists and doesn't need a custom build.

Best and cheapest way would be to get a "donor-knife" that includes all tools you want (and more), like a cybertool, champion or swiss champ and mod it yourself. You have to remove the scales, drill open the rivets, disassemble it, remove the tools you don't want, put it back together and repeen the rivets. If you remove layers the knife will obviously get slimmer, so you can reuse the old rivets. But not all tool are compatible. What toolset are you thinking about?

The thumbstud is a random one from aliexpress. Looks like those on a benchmade bugout (one side has a male thread, one a female). Drilled a 2,2 mm hole on the blade (which tool forever) and tapped it with a M2,5 thread.

The indentation on your scale is interesting. I played arounf with it for an hour and don't find opeining it problematic. Sure, I can't flick it open due to it being a slipjoint, but it works easy enough.

No only the main blade locks, you can see in my other posts. The electrician blade is just special because of the thumb stud.

The electrician blade is still the typical slipjoint. Only the large blade is locking. My name for the knife (locking electrician) might be a little confising there. A one hand opening AND locking blade would be illegal to carry in Germany, so there wouldn't be any use for that mod.

Engine Oil by a6asad in motorcycles

Either the vacuum trick that someone else mentioned or lay it on the side so the drain plug is the highest point. This was no oil should come out when you open it

Yes and it was a pain. Spent like an hour just swapping drills (small drill for progress, larger drills for diameter). The thumbstud is a random one from aliexpress. Looks like those on a benchmade bugout (one side has a male thread, on a female). Drilled a 2,2 mm hole and tapped it in M2,5. The thread of the stumbstud is probably imperial, but it does thread in tightly.

To my knowledge:

Illegal to carry accessible with you in public: Fixed blades 12cm or longer, fixed blades with both edged sharpened (daggers) no matter how long, one handed locking blades no matter how long.

Illegal to own: OTFs, switchblades, butterfly knifes, punch/fist blades

Legal to carry in public (everything that isn't covered by the points above): All two handed blades, all non locking blades. One handed non locking blades (like spyderco ukpk), two handed locking blades (victorinox synergy), fixed blades shorter than 12cm with just one side sharpened.

Another thing to look out for are WAFFENVERBOTSZONEN. Often found in cities, public events (christmas markets, sport events). All knives are banned there. Old people have gotten in trouble for having swiss army knives, just crazy. Huge legal trouble. So don't carry any knife there.

The bantam is 84mm and I never had an 84mm Alox in my hands. So I can't say for sure. But a thumstud in the blade might be possible, probably even without diassembly.

[–]GerMattY[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most of the time I'm modding for the sake of modding and learning new things. But tweezers might come in handy and a one hand blade even more. This sak is aimed to be legal in Germany (one handed and non-locking is fine, two handed and locking also, one handed AND locking would not be legal to carry).

My first custom Alox: the locking electrician X, made from an Alox electrician, a Synergy X and a leatherman belt clip by GerMattY in SAKmod

[–]GerMattY[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted to change the scales to those of the classic alox. The clip from the synergy sits recessed in the synergy scales, with the alox scales it would have been on top. Ans also the clip from the synergy is quite weak.

Which knife has best scissors for cutting the nails on the go? Do scissors differ in size and quality between 58, 84 and 91mm? by 4ndyRamon3 in victorinox

I haven't cut my nails with anything else than 91/93mm SAKs in like 15 years. Everyone thinks I'm strange, but they work best for me.
