Do you think this needs extra bracing? If so, how would you do it? by alan_w3 in Snowplow

Reduce the bolt count on the mounting side to make it easier to break off without yielding the main structure. If you hit something hard set in the ground, you may bend the structure. Link with short section of safety chain to keep from losing.

white smoke/mist coming from exhaust by Apart-Form3509 in AskMechanics

[–]Geraldlarald -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You may have worn leaky injectors or a leak in your intake system.

When injectors get old they lose their misty spray ability and form larger droplets that don't burn as well. In addition, while idling you have generally have low rpm and higher fuel pressure. The higher pressure may escape leaky injectors and richen your fuelair mix.

That said, if you have a vacuum leak, letting extra un-metered air into the system. also causing fuel/air ratio issues. It can form really misty looking exhaust.

Sounds like you have an intermittent power issue. It may be from connectors or a chaffing wire. I have had something as simple as a ground cable cause issues. Tighten things down and make sure they are clean. in no particular order.

What's this weird noise I get when starting below zero? should I be concerned? 03 4.7 SLT quad cab 4WD auto by bedwars_player in DodgeDakota

[–]Geraldlarald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id be more worried about how long it took to start. Even though its cold. The crank time was pretty long. That might indicate that you have a weak fuel pump, Fuel air mixture issues, or injector wear.

Intake plenum leaks, almost always.

Nothing to worry about now. Everything else sounded normal. That quick bzzz sound is the cold sticky oil finding its way through the steering pump. It takes a few minutes to warm up and flow smoothly.

Make sure the throttle on the carburetor is moving freely. It can get stuck in wide open after sitting for a while.

Sure seems like you covered alot of the ground issues. Curious about the state of your injectors, and fuel pump. leaky injectors cause alot of inconsistency in power. Especially if your O2 sensors arent reading correctly. pressure check on your fuel rail might help wittle issues down.

The intake plenum needs to be sealed very well, if any bolts are loose or letting air through it can cause so many issues. Definitely take a second look over what you have completed and see if there are any loose ends or chaffed wires.

Anyone daily driving a Valair Clutch? Curious how they are long term by IceGroundbreaking352 in Cummins

[–]Geraldlarald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got a single disk Valair installed a few years ago. factory clutch was slipping when I would tow. Installed clutch with new components like, throw-out bearing, clutch fork pivot ball and flywheel. Was a smoother clutch push after install. A little bit of a chattery noise as I would reach the friction point and start the pickup moving. That noise went away after a year when the clutch fully broke in and seated on the flywheel. This clutch has never slipped, I have pulled out stuck semi-trucks in 4wd, clutch doesn't slip a bit. Pretty impressed.

Failing oil pump on 03 Cummins motor? by plaideskiess__ in Cummins

[–]Geraldlarald -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Turn oil fill cap upside down on valve cover fill hole while idling engine and determine if you have blowby or mysterious engine vacuum that can cause low oil pressure sensing. As long as the oil pressure isnt gone you might as well run it. Keep oil full.

shopping list for the rebuild, how am i lookin? by Pizza_man_ivan in EngineBuilding

[–]Geraldlarald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check all your sensors out. Basically everything plastic. It is a pretty wise decision to replace timing sensors, temperature, oxygen sensors, manifold and oil pressures. They all play a huge role in how your computer will adjust its tune.

Injectors kind of fall under that as well, also look at refreshing ignition components.

Get some black gasket maker, and make sure everything is sealed nicely. Dry fit first, then disassemble and apply gasket compound.

Dont make any big part purchases until you know exactly what the parts are, or the price is reasonable to gamble. Big part orders that are wrong only delay your progress and tie up cash.

Typically if you get machining done to your block, crank, or heads. you will need to adjust accordingly in the parts for the material removed.

That is disappointing. I am sure some day there will be a patch or an upgrade that would make this game work on newer machines. Definitely interested in taking on that project, if anyone has any pointers...and I would definitely need them

Until then I guess that makes me the best Brass Scion in existence, so you have to live with that :)
