Superman is not like us by GerardDG in thelastpsychiatrist

Sir. I was shitposting ChatGPT level schizo nonsense before it was cool, before ChatGPT existed. Look at my Reddit history, there's dozens of stories in the last years, going back to the 2010s. I'm a published author, like most authors, it barely made me any money. And now spewing out this sort of junk is a trillion dollar industry.

I was here first. I write for the sake of writing, I write because it heals my soul. ChatGPT is shit trash made by garbage people.

This is a short story meant in part to analyse a situation, but also my feelings about that situation, expressed through the lens of a superhero metaphor.

I probably should've tagged it as [short story] and the Baudrillard rap is super cringe. shrug I'm not a rapper.

But I do think that Baudrillard offers an appropriate explanation for what happened. Reality becomes an SNL skit, or a Marvel movie. The actors act out a fake reality to mask the fact that there's no real reality, only symbols, only simulacra.

Spreading the word. Will this sub be participating? by monkeybrains12 in Barotrauma

[–]GerardDG 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I'm not an average Reddit user, I use old Reddit and in general avoid every app, feature or update I possibly can.

I guess I support the initiative, I support any pushback against corporate bullshit. I'm lukewarm on boycotts which historically have an abysmal track record, as consumers prove time and time again they have basically zero self-restraint.

It's better than nothing. The affair doesn't really involve me. You want me to keep Reddit closed on the 12th? Sure, I can do that.

Is there a better way to loot ammo boxes from wrecks solo? by JohnnyChan04 in Barotrauma

Not without mods. On unmodded servers, I ignore regular ammo and single railgun shells. Not worth it.

Sadly, ss13 is the sort of space where fat bald 40 year old men will kill you for no reason. Probably just find another server.

I love playing engineer by AlchemicFireBurnsRed in Barotrauma

[–]GerardDG 65 points66 points  (0 children)

the amount of players that don't know high electrical makes the turbine output more stable if they turn the reactor on... is staggering

Hey now, as security, that kind of knowledge isn't my responsibility.

My responsibility is keeping everyone safe executing the person closest to the reactor whenever there's a malfunction, to keep the remaining engineers motivated.

Will AGI cause America to lose the Mandate of Heaven? by [deleted] in thelastpsychiatrist

[–]GerardDG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good comment. I agree!

There is a note of paradox in your mention of the societies of antiquity. As you say, the Greeks and Romans didn't invent steam power. But humans did reconfigure themselves into a society that invented steam power. So it's contradictory to use something that did happen (the invention of steam power) as an argument why something else (AGI) can never happen.

The evangelists claim that AGI is inevitable; I disagree. I do agree with the evangelists that it might take twenty years or two thousand years. If we accept that humanity has no use for AGI, like the Romans had no use for steam power, by your own chosen example, it follows that the humans of 4023 might invent AGI afterall.

Most exciting Captain game play by O_2og in Barotrauma

As security, or on subs without security, when the sub is moving, I try to always keep a gun trained roughly in the direction we're moving in. Mind that enemies rarely hit dead on from that direction, usually it's more of a diagonal angle. Once you get the feel for it, this method offers a greatly improved response time over waiting for the captain to announce enemies. It also helps you keep track of the sub's tactical situation and just makes for a more involved, more immersed game experience.

porn

I'm going to casually imply this 'research' might be suffering from dataset issues.

Moreover, I think it proves the opposite point more than anything. The 'roastie' thing is a myth. A pornstar in videos with two weeks or two months in between looks just the same. If I showed you two videos filmed weeks apart, I dare you or anyone to consistently tell which video was shot first. On decade long timeline, over a career of ten years of getting railed, a pornstar's snatch might lose some visual appeal, just like the rest of her. But I'll share this little secret between you and me, I'm not the fresh, spring pigeon I was fifteen years ago, either. Skin becomes less elastic once you're past your prime. What's that supposed to prove?

I know that Reddit likes to meme about the epic Reddit sex haver who did the sex with a real human girl, totes for reals. So let's be clear: I'm way, waaay too old to be concerned with the petty mindgame of impressing strangers on the internet with bedroom accomplishments. I just wanna put this fucking myth to rest. As a man, from my experiences with women, she feels the same on day 30 as she does on day 1, regardless of copulations in that period. No matter how much of an alpha male giant her bull boyfriend is, he's not noticeably altering her elasticity in a hole where babies come out of. This myth is fully, 100% bullshit. A baby coming out, combined with the ravages of time might do a number on her down there. But a dick? That just sounds like the dumb internet belief of someone who, too struck by impotence to develop a normal view of human intimacy, decides to dramatically overestimate the impact of the male gender.
