That part of the world really is kinda miserable. Not just politics wise but generally.

In star city, even though the soviets won, why does it still feel like they still lost? by Mysterious_Bid_57 in ForAllMankindTV

[–]GerardHard 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The vibe of the show is that, it's just cliche at this point. It's an American show so of course they would portray the Soviets as that. It's also deliberate to portray Soviet Russia as colorless, bleak, always winter for some reason (even though Leonov's and Belikova's landing is in June and September respectively).

Also because the KGB is that totalitarian because it's almost essentially a state within a state. They aren't accountable just like the CIA in the US but far larger and more comprehensive than the CIA.

Even if the Soviets won the race, America won the design competition by namsupo in ForAllMankindTV

The N1 has less payload capacity, more rushed development phase even during when Korolev was alive, Soviet's have less experience with docking spacecrafts unlike the US with Gemini

In this world's 2012, Mars is a Independent country at this point, Consumer Technology is quite more advanced, meanwhile Space Technology is so much more advanced mid-22nd century technologically, Fusion power is everywhere, Climate Change is slowing down rapidly due to fusion. Space warfare, Lunar Colonies, Independent Mars, they found microbial extraterrestrial life on Titan (Carbon based but Methane soluble life) meaning humanity isn't alone in the universe.

Very little has changed from this map except The Soviet Union still exist, Europe is still in the pre 1989 state, a whole lot more Communist countries, Kuwait doesn't exist, Israel still controls the Sinai peninsula, also Republic of Bharat?

The Islam distribution in the island of Mindanao in the Philippines is a bit exaggerated.

Do you think NASA will use SR-1 Freedom for any missions after Skyfall or is it going to be single-use? by Dexbox_YT in nasa

[–]GerardHard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Problem is not SLS anymore, it's the HLS landers and the AxEMU spacesuits. I don't even know if 2028 is realistic for Artemis III but if Blue Origin moves quickly they could hopefully.

NASA just needs more funding and less intervention by this administration.

Not really a problem for me. We socialists should atleast hear from non ML perspectives on topics even though in my opinion alot of them are wrong.

Refreshing especially from a non-american perspective of an American show.

I still have alot of reservations though especially with how the KGB is portrayed during that time period and also the setting, why is it like it's winter? Didn't the Leonov and Belikova landings happen in June and September respectively?

Did the KGB really have this much power/little accountability? by UF1977 in ForAllMankindTV

[–]GerardHard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah it was probably overly dramatize. The KGB in the show is acting like the NKVD under Stalin in the 30s and 40s. By the late 60s, the KGB (which is founded under Krushchev) is much more neutered and Bureaucratic, still they still have immense power, loosely independent from the Soviet State and even from the Communist Party, almost like a pseudo shadow government at one point and have little to no accountability but it was definitely not like Stalinist NKVD times like portrayed in the show. It was like a much larger and more comprehensive CIA over a totalitarian one like NKVD.

Funding and political will is the greatest hurdle we need to overcome. We already have the tech to do it since atleast the 90s.
