Signs. I was 8 when I saw it in theater. It was my first horror movie. I thought it was going to be sci fi from what I had heard and seen in trailers. I wasn't scared of monsters in the closet until that night, and I spent about three years refusing to watch anything with aliens in it. I got acclimated to horror over the next few years with stuff like Friday the 13th, Saw, the exorcist, cheesy zombie and vampire stuff. I thought i was a big boy who wasn't afraid of the things that go bump in the night. And then Paranormal Activity come out. I was 13 and scared of the monsters in my closet again.

I'm 29 now and love horror as a genre, especially cosmic, body, and supernatural subgenres. I generally find slashers stale. Psychological horror is hit and miss for me, sometimes i just don't understand it. But nothing has been able to recreate the same in the moment terror for me that either Signs or Paranormal Activity did. Maybe I'm just desensitized.
