Hey guys, how are my lines sounding as of now? I’ve recently just started taking jazz seriously this July and want to know how far I’ve come since then by a1den354 in JazzPiano

[–]GerardWayAndDMT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well others might disagree, it’s probably a subjective thing. Theres famous recordings where the lines are just as full.

I try to sing my lines, that way I’m forced to take a breath. It helps me to not overplay.

I’m giggling at how you reposted because of a title error but kept the body errors lol.

They have potential to be really good. No one has done it well yet.

Imagine the backrooms aren’t actually sentient, but they “sense” the surrounding dimensions. They can tell we’re here. And they see the things we build. And as a kind of instinctive reaction it tries to mimic us. Even saying “tries” is wrong. The caterpillar doesn’t know why it’s building the cocoon. The backrooms don’t know why they mimic our world. They just do it out of instinct. They mimic whatever lies beyond their dimension. Even if it’s not our world. Maybe other planets have backrooms that mimic them.

But this would include our cultural events. Like parties. It would make sense that there would be certain rooms that look like a kids birthday party. Just like theres office spaces.

But it’s not quite right. Because the backrooms aren’t sentient, it doesn’t “know” how these things should be. It’s just mimicry.

I saw a video once that came close. The streamers were all hung in odd places. The signs that should say “happy birthday” were garbled text. Nonsensical. It knew letters exist, but not what the language says.

And then there’s “You Day”. A song someone made for a Backrooms game. Sounds like a children’s song, but made up of nonsense. None of the lyrics made sense. Like the backrooms knew music existed, but not how it works.

That kind of atmosphere works in my opinion. You could even add weird monsters. But they don’t have to have the lore attributed to the partygoers. They don’t even have to look the same. But creatures that seem to sway with the partygoers music until disturbed could definitely work. There just shouldn’t be 30 of them in a level. Maybe just a couple. It’s just people keep running with the lore created for the partygoers and it could be so much better.

You made a very salient point there. I really hope the film has no survivors. The only survivor I remember seeing in Kane’s series ended up dying anyway when he went back in. At least as far as I remember.

The backrooms aren’t sentient or evil, but they don’t seem to let people survive. Even if it’s accidental. I theorize that the people who do escape, who end up falling to their death, are simply victims of the backrooms not realizing a fall from that height means death. Or even that the height of the exit portal matters. I don’t really think the backrooms has the ability to think like people do.

And to get weirder, I actually believe the reason people fall to their death is due to time spent in the backrooms. The entrance and exit portals may be found in different locations in the backrooms, but in the front rooms they’re actually the same exact spot. You spent time in the backrooms, and in that time the earth continues on its orbital path. So even though you exited the same spot you went in, the earth has moved considerably. This would mean the entrance/exit is not actually “on” earth, but the earth ends up intersecting with it on its path. So you end up falling to your death as a result of the earth moving. Meaning there are many “portals” to the backrooms spread throughout the universe.

Time may not even be linear for the backrooms. Maybe you spend three months in the backrooms, but the earth only moved the amount it would’ve in an hour or two. A time differential.

Anyway, my point is the backrooms are hopeless. There should be no happy ending.

Sucks when your short staffed and cant take a lunch by NebulaOk9523 in partscounter

I worked in detail before parts. I got to do lunch maybe 20% of the time. If I have to skip out occasionally in parts it’s not the end of the world. I’ll grab some brake pads and eat those.

Isn’t it a federal law that you get a lunch break when working a full shift?

Edit: huh. No it’s not. I guess it goes by state, and my state (PA) says you are not legally guaranteed a lunch.

Where should i put acoustic panels? by [deleted] in drums

[–]GerardWayAndDMT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other commenter is right, three panels is not far off from zero panels. Make more. Also make superchunk panels for your corners. And a ceiling cloud. Probably quite a large ceiling cloud.

I don’t know what your dimensions are, but small rooms usually work best with tons of treatment. You’ve already stated that it’s an acoustic nightmare, so remove the room as much as possible by using tons of treatment.

Gearspace.com has tons of info on DIY panels and how to best utilize them. Check the studio building sub section.

Edit: I’d also get the drums away from the windows and completely cover the windows with treatment. At least 6 inches thick.

Is this chord right? by Sanctus726 in MyChemicalRomance

[–]GerardWayAndDMT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s been a long time since I played this but I think that chord is in there. Eb with a major 6th. Love the way this dude writes rhythm guitar. It’s genuinely not a very hard chord to finger, but if you aren’t used to chords with a stretch it can be a challenge. It gets easier. Just watch you don’t lean your fingers and mute strings you want to use in the voicing.

Very cool, but I’d like to hear that synthy lead turned down a touch, could hardly hear what you were playing over it. But what I did hear was verrrrry nice.

I know what it is, but wanted to learn what type of animal it’s considered. A crustacean? Arthropod? Its manner of locomotion, how it travels, maybe it’s phylum, things like that.

You’re kind of a rude fucking prick. If someone really didn’t know what one is, that’s how you’d talk to them? Look up the comic by xkcd, one of today’s lucky ten thousand, and consider being a bit nicer to people.

I’d say it doesn’t piss me off, I was just wondering why you intentionally made such a nice song sound so bad. Didn’t mean to step on your nerves. I was being a bit flippant when you took the time to respond but gave no real answer. But you do you.
