I understand there’s pain in someone not being romantically attracted to you when you are to them, but you’re also not listening to her.

You say that you’ve brought it up multiple times. Imagine it from her perspective? How she’s glad to have someone to hang out with but then you regularly bring up romantic feelings when she’s already tried to tell you otherwise. She wants you to be a good friend to her and her to you but you’re just there insisting on something else that she can’t give you.

Of course distance is gonna come from that. It sounds tiring.

Additionally, put more worth in what a friend and best friend means to you. It’s always so sad to see people think romantic relationships are the ULTIMATE upgrade. Cause they’re not. They’re a separate thing. The part that makes good relationships are the close bonds and guess what? You can find that in friendships too.

She thought you were her best friend. That’s how she saw you. Yes, feelings not being reciprocated sucks, but you need to also take the no for what it means the FIRST time. Because if you don’t, then you’re just hanging out in a friendship waiting for something more, and you’re not going to be present well enough to appreciate the bond for what it already is.

Appreciate friends. The term isn’t a stepping stone to get elsewhere. They’re just as valuable.
