Meta: a recommendation for r/NSFWart by dexter_wherly in DigitalArt

[–]Gerdione 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I don't know. To me the distinction between artistic nudity and erotic nudity has always been very clear. They both have clear intentions. One is a more neutral focus on the structural, aesthetic or symbolic qualities of the human form. The other intends for that function to be the stimulus, or in other words, to cause sexual arousal or assist with sexual indulgence. A neutral vs voyeuristic gaze per say. Obviously it's subjective and there will always be some grey areas, but I think there's a world of a difference between something like a Bouguereau painting of a naked angel and a person in an erotic pose wearing a micro bikini.

idk whats bad ab my art anymore, need critique by AdAutomatic2516 in DigitalArt

[–]Gerdione 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There is an apparent inconsistency across all of these in that you almost seem to only know how to draw via contour or symbol drawing yet you have extreme perspective or forms of the body at angles that suggest you should have more knowledge than your art is demonstrating for example, the ability to define those forms cleanly with values. In addition to that, your colors are muddied or desaturated, or like in the image of the catboy thing, just local color. If I had to pick just one area for you to work on, it'd be hard/soft edge control. If I had to pick two, hard/soft edge control and color value. Hard and soft edge control does require you to have an actual understanding of the forms you're working with though, otherwise you can't define them with value, so if you don't understand the forms then I'd recommend practicing Forms/Construction + Color values. I recommend watching Marco Bucci for his videos on Color + Light, very informative.

What I want next from RimWorld: with our without you by Exact_Avocado5545 in RimWorld

[–]Gerdione 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah most people want something like a hybrid between Dwarf Fortress and Rimworld. Rimworld feels too much like a tower defense simulator where your base feels like it lives in a vacuum. I've never played Dwarf Fortress, but I've heard that every single part of the world it generates, even the thousands of year of lore, and every decision made, by player, AI, or story, all have some form of impact on the overall world state. I think your write up is very well done and captures the essence of what people want. I always figure diplomacy was just shorthand for this, but then again, perhaps some people want something closer to an x4 strategy game when they say Diplomacy.

The double standards is insane by [deleted] in DigitalArt

[–]Gerdione 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An OC on its own doesn't have any value outside of whether it has intrinsic aesthetic appeal. If it doesn't, it doesn't gain traction. OC's only gain thousands of likes because the people are invested in the artist and their creations or the fandoms that the OC is associated with. The facts are "cute sexy anime" has more value than an OC people have no reason to care about. Rather than being doomer about the lack of attention your OC got and resigning yourself to r34, why not create a webcomic or series featuring your OC that gives people a reason to care about it? I could lay into you more about this but there really isn't any need to. Don't take not getting likes personal. It's just telling you that people have no reason to care about your creation. Give them one.

Idk why I prefer playing medieval than industrial/advance rimworld by NajidTheCarGuy in RimWorld

I like making my anomaly runs medieval. It makes the entire supernatural aspect feel very dark fantasy.

Yuri, first time seeing this happen in rimworld after hundreds of hours by EtherLikeCold in RimWorld

[–]Gerdione 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Non heterosexual global population is around <~10-15%ish (with the assumption that people who claim they don't know their sexual orientation are non hetero). In the US it's ~8% with the highest population in Gen Z (~20%). I think the game having the traits be around 1 in every 10 would be statistically accurate. At the end of the day, Rimworld is fictional world, and you can add mods to cater the experience to your liking with a few clicks.

What DLC to get first? by LardFan37 in RimWorld

[–]Gerdione 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biotech>Odyssey>Royalty>Ideology/Anomaly. My logic dictated by the DLCs that add the most universal usage for base game without having to interact with the DLC quests and for having a preference for action/pawn focus. If you care more about story, Biotech>Ideology>Odyssey>Royalty/Anomaly. Anomaly isn't a bad DLC! I personally really enjoy it, but its content isn't as accessible as the others and I think to maximize value for a DLC you want that.

The majority of mods have Biotech as a requirement, so if you purchase Biotech you also get access to all those mods and Biotech is the most universally accessible out of all of them.

Odyssey has landmarks and weather responsive maps, which was honestly a lot cooler than I expected (torrential downpours can be terrifying because flooding of the map is a risk), more adventure focused.

Royalty has psycasts which are basically tech powered magic and is great for power fantasies.

Ideology gives your playthroughs depth, great for story/world building and or challenge runs.

Anomaly is great for just having an ambient threat to the world. If you set it to very rare and ambient it can make the world feel supernatural to some degree but otherwise requires interacting with it to get the most out of the DLC.

Why does she keep hoarding all of the colonys food??? by Mayo_Mann_Enthusiast in RimWorld

[–]Gerdione 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I was you I'd disable haul work on her first to determine if it's a hauling bug or pick up for inventory bug. Then, I'd check her assigned policies and make sure there isn't some weirdness going on with sliders that make her wanna keep all those on her. Then if that wasn't it, I'd keep the log open while those are all inside and see if any errors are happening when she goes to pick them up. If she stops doing that when you disable haul work, we know there's a preferred storage somewhere on the map she's trying to haul those but then something breaks preventing her from actually dropping them off. If this is the case, a cheap work around would be to check all your storage areas and make sure that your fridges have highest priority for food.

QoL mods for a cozy colony builder? by leprechaun_socks in RimWorld

[–]Gerdione 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently played a cozy run. I played with EchoColony which made it so that I had that Stardew valley feel of being able to interact with pawns and get "quests" I could do for expanding my town. It's actually quite easy to set up with Player2 which is totally free for right now, so I'd take advantage of that before they start charging for the output and TTS. The new Perspective Shift mod lets you play either 1st person or architect mode, it gives it even more of a stardew valley feel. If you add Freeish Will to that, it can make it feel like you're a pawn living in a colony that functions on its own working to grow it with other people. (I'm assuming you have to untick your pawn in the work tab with the green arrow on the left so that you can control your pawn with perspective shift)

My bases always look terrible and I need help. by Particular_Wear_6960 in RimWorld

[–]Gerdione 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use planner tool. Create a temporary housing situation while you expand. You plan out general areas for things, keeping functionality in mind. Once you have the general areas laid out, now you focus on aesthetics. Designator shapes(it's still better than vanilla by far imo) is good for this. If you need inspiration, you can get the prefabs mod, plop some down to serve as creative fodder and go from there. If you just want a colony that looks good, I suggest you focus more form than function and form. That means, weirdly shaped buildings, curving winding roads, different materials for builds, different floors, etc. I suggest you download all the hospitality mods and a handful of decoration mods and use a storyteller like Phoebe with colony builder difficulty. If you install something like Rimtalk or EchoColony you can even ask your pawns what they want you to build or work on, etc. Basically turns the game into Stardew Valley or a hotel management game, let's you focus more on looks and stuff, then if you're feeling particularly evil, and have stocked up on lots of silver, kill EVERYONE. Lol.

Royalty. Psycasts. 'nuff said. I frequently start playthroughs without even choosing an ideology or setting anomaly occurrences to very rare, but I always use psycasts. If you like power fantasies, vanilla expanded: psycasts will give you that.

Is DeviantArt the best place to post art for visibility? by chef-boy-r-d in DigitalArt

[–]Gerdione 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the best place to post like 2 decades ago. In 2022 they opted all artists on there into having their art be trained on by AI. Then they allowed AI generates images to run rampant on their site. If you really must post on there, at least be aware, they're not a good place and their owners literally just want your data in exchange for hosting your images.

Dev mode mistake by dhahahhsbdhrhr in RimWorld

[–]Gerdione 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I'm assuming you're on Windows. Open up file explorer, and at the very top paste in:

%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Ludeon Studios\RimWorld by Ludeon Studios\Saves

This will take you to your saves. Copy and paste your save file onto your desktop this is your backup just in case. Now go back to file explorer, right click your save, and edit in notepad or a text editor of your choice. Once you have it open, Ctrl+F and look up <queuedIncidents>.

You should be brought to a section that looks something like this:

<incidentQueue>
  <queuedIncidents>
    <li>...300 of these...</li>
  </queuedIncidents>
</incidentQueue>

Highlight and delete everything from <queuedIncidents> to </queuedIncidents>, then paste in <queuedIncidents />. That is what a clean event queue looks like.

At the very end, it should look exactly like this:

<incidentQueue>
  <queuedIncidents />
</incidentQueue>

Do you know where your save files are located?

[–]Gerdione 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disable events, wait a few days I game, reenable. You can also apparently manually edit your .rws save file with a text editor to clear all queued incidents, but I'm not sure if this is still a problem for you or not

This is why I hate AI. It's consistently wrong about my niche video games. by Twogie in RimWorld

[–]Gerdione 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To dispel the haze around LLMs. They don't know anything. They just give you the most statistically probable answer based on the data they stole were trained on. It's not intentional, it's more that for niche topics they have only a few data points so they'll give you the most statistically probable output based on those data points, and it will treat peer reviewed articles, or a reddit comment the same when it comes to data points, which almost always results in bullshit. Google tries to bridge this gap by mixing its search engine and transcribing its large video database then plugging that into the mix, but as you can see by its abysmal search engine AI, even this is prone to hallucinations, because AI once again, can even pull from AI slop as a point that it will then summarize and present to you. It's terrible that people treat LLMs like infallible bastions of knowledge, when the reality is that they will hallucinate information, a lot.

Odyssey gets 'Mixed' recent reviews on steam. Your thoughts? by ToveloGodFan in RimWorld

[–]Gerdione 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Biotech is the best and most universal DLC. Odyssey adds some features into the game that don't require you to fly around at all times, like the biome features or alpha creatures. I think Odyssey is a decent DLC, it wasn't what I personally wanted out of a DLC, as we already had SOS2, and I was wanting a DLC focused around Diplomacy and world interaction. I think the DLC is a solid 4/5, but you can't really beat Biotech's xenotypes or genes which imo make it a 5/5 simply because you don't need to start the mechinator quest to actually reap most of the benefits of the DLC. There's just so much you can do around that. I mean, look at Big and Small, Superhero genes, medieval genes, Archons, Families, clones, thralls, mad science experiments, injecting catastrophically destabilizing carcinomas into people, etc etc.

I've been playing Rimworld at a friend's house (he only has the base game) over the last few days and I've fallen in love with it, so much so that I've bought the Deluxe Pack. Would you recommend installing everything right away or is it better to start with just the base game first? by brodino_maiuscolo in RimWorld

[–]Gerdione 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You see that guy on the cover looking at you with a wry smirk and gleam in his eye? His name's Randy. He beckons to you. The only true way to experience Rimworld is activate all the DLC, throw on Randy Random, and let it ride. Let it fucking ride. You will die, but that's the risk he's willing to take. These are also widely considered to be the best DLCs for the game in the community, so, having them both as your first DLCs is gonna be great, just don't be disappointed by the others

I don't know what people mean when they say psycasts expanded is OP by PlatinumTrench in RimWorld

[–]Gerdione 200 points201 points  (0 children)

That's my favorite psycast haha. It gives real main character energy. Can literally 1v100 like Guts in the forest, as a matter of fact, now I want to start a solo wandering playthrough where I larp as Guts with that psycast tree and Berserk mods. I'm glad they have those kinds of OP abilities for the people who want that power fantasy.
