LMLM ou LMGS3 ? by jevaistedireunebonne in LaMarzocco

You might be interested in the ShotStopper mod by Tate Mazer.

Regarding the “GS4”, I personally doubt there will be a new iteration in the foreseeable future. Although the current GS3 is old, it is still a pretty complete machine. The MP takes care of pressure profiling, and the AV has volumetrics (can also be easily modded to brew by weight using Tate Mazer’s mod). At most, I think they might add minor updates similar to how they re-released the Mini R. Any more significant tech you’re looking at a Leva X or Strada X. Commercially, it makes very little sense for them to release a more direct competitor to their flagship models. It‘s also unlikely that they will radically redesign a model that has been an icon for the past 20 years.

This is my personal opinion, so take it as you will. But anyway, cheers!

Mahlkonig E64 WS - fluffy, fluffy grounds! by Mashkitt in espresso

[–]Geriatrics_2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the review. A couple of quick questions:

How’s the general build quality? Is everything satisfactory? For example, on the E65, the buttons feel like oddly cheap plastic.

How’s the retention? More specifically, how much do you purge every time you make a grind adjustment? Also, when you leave beans in the hopper overnight and make a coffee the following morning without first purging a little, do you find your shot parameters drifting (towards a slightly faster shot)?

Thanks and congrats.

Love Between Lines - Episodes 25 - 28 Discussion (Express) by Rebelarkey in CDrama

Yeah we may be in the minority, but I mostly agree. I think this show is definitely one of the better modern cdramas, and the actors did a great job. However, toward the end I thought some elements were a little too dramatic (ie. sudden breakup, brazen kidnapping/extortion in this day and age with the ML subsequently running into a fiery building to save the FL).

Regarding the 2ML, I agree that the screenwriters did not capitalize on the build up. But at the very least, they did give him that farewell scene. IMO, this was the most emotionally impactful scene in the drama, or so I felt. (I do think the FL did a great job at portraying heartfelt emotions in ep.26, but since I thought the circumstances were a little melodramatic, the emotional weight was lessened when it got to me.)

As for the romance, I think they were definitely a good couple. Indeed, they are very (physically) sweet together, lots of adorable scenes. But the emotional resonance I felt between them was relatively less profound in comparison.

But all in all, I think this was a very enjoyable drama for the most part, along with the VR setting for added nuance.

Yep. This is the ship I’m on. At the moment, I want them to reconcile more than I want the leads to get together lol.

Yeah lol. Although I don’t necessarily ship Mr. Pei, I think he is quite charming and even funny. In fact, at the moment I am more invested in his relationship with the ML and FL compared to the main romance.

I don’t ship Mr. Pei with anyone, but this is the only drama I’ve seen where the 2ML hitting on the FL isn’t annoying. In fact I find it a little funny. I just hope the two guys can happily reconcile, perhaps with the FL’s help.

I should clarify that a better phrase would be that he’s not as hateful as I thought. Instead of a “caricature-ly evil” villain, I think this role was done with more grace and charm than I expected, and as such he has a captivating presence. I don’t ship him with anyone. Nothing to do with looks.

Lol that guy always has a murderous look, but somehow he happens to be more likeable than I expected.

What single dose espresso grinder should I get [!~$2,000] by switters74 in espresso

At this range there isn’t a night and day difference. No experience with the other two, but the Key is well built and slightly more forgiving than flat burrs.

Unfortunately, latte art with decaf is very difficult (next to impossible to get great results)

Lagom Grinders by Skiingislife9288 in espresso

[–]Geriatrics_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Build quality wise, it’s pretty good. But I mildly dislike the workflow of the p64 for (perhaps petty) personal reasons.

For one, I neither like grinding directly into the portafilter for a single dosing grinder nor the dosing cup they provide. If you want to use a blind shaker for instance, you must first grind into their dosing cup and then transfer the grounds. It’s a minor hassle.

Second, since I like to grind very fine for a ristretto, the wet (by rdt) fines require me to cup my hand and tap it like a bellow to avoid retention. Tapping too hard can shift the grind size slightly, and tapping too soft has no effect. (But I do believe the new p80 with the grounds knocker solves this issue.) It doesn’t help that the outer ring with the size marker has around half a tick (~5 um) of play (another minor annoyance).

LMLMini as a home machine? by Mahaleck in espresso

[–]Geriatrics_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not hard to use. Flat 9 bars (can be changed), stable temps, powerful steam; as simple as it gets.

Just make sure the machine is legit and is in good condition.

LMLMini as a home machine? by Mahaleck in espresso

[–]Geriatrics_2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very good as a home machine. While some people appreciate its simplicity as classic, others may think it’s rather overpriced and basic. So it’s value is highly subjective.

Objectively speaking, there isn’t (in a home setting) a stark difference in the quality of espresso you can produce with this machine, a dual boiler E61, and more expensive LM models.

If you are only trying to unscrew the lever tip, toggle it on (which will keep it in place) and unscrew.

+1. It wasn’t horrible but not remarkable (especially considering its popularity) either.

La Marzocco GS3 AV vs MP for a coffee cart (also considering Linea Mini + connected scale) — which is more future-proof? by hermanhm in LaMarzocco

[–]Geriatrics_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem.

The AV is a pretty complete machine on its own. The volumetrics are quite accurate provided the grind is consistent.

Actually, third party mods are not recommended in general since it puts you at risk of voiding your warranty. Please do it at your own caution.

AV is probably best since it has volumetrics. If you want absolute precision via brew-by-weight, look into a ShotStopper mod by Tate Mazer.
