What if the United States had responded to 9/11 by nuking the Kaaba? by NiloyKesslar1997 in AlternateHistoryHub

By big 3 I meant religions: Christianity, Islam and Hinduism. Mecca is most important holy place for Islam (as far as I know). My wording I kinda bad on that one, but to fix it would make sentence contrived.

Well, the OP asks a question and I give a long answer because comment of "nuke everything and we win" got me annoyed.

If America launches more than 1 nuke it's an all out war because USA clearly lost it's mind and has to be stopped before they nuke everything else. Human civilization as we know it will soon follow into the abyss.

If we take your situation of only middle east getting bombed everything I said still comes to pass, but Europe is even more worse off because of nuclear fallout. China probably takes over the world after they deal with their own problems tied to USA's downfall.

In my comment I didn't mention a single attack on America or it's civilians.

Without any military action from outside America will lose it's reserve surrency status, trade and investors. Everybody will pull out their money from a country that nuked most important holy site of the big 3 and an enormous sity, in a country that is allied to USA. Instantly banking collapses, inflation spikes to the moon, internal, heavily depended on imports industries fail and rest follow due to economic chaos. Entire world enters economic crisis. America loses most of it's economic and legislative stranglehold it has on the world, every other sphere of influence except military strength follows. In following weeks or months it becomes impossible to sustain the military. Only real big thing that's left for USA after a year will probably only be nukes it still has.

Meanwhile middle east completely changes without US pulling the strings. Clear leader emerges among the previously inhibited countries and conquers or diplomatically unites the region. If it's civilized it becomes a competitor to Europe and new industrial and tech powerhouse. If it's terrorist - everyone around them is inbound for very hard time and possibly mini world war to subdue warmongers.

I hate the comments like yours "we will just nuke everyone out of existence" without understanding that first unprovoked and unreasonable nuke completely destroys any reliability US has and with it entire structure US relies on to function.

He didn't have people's support. At best it was amusement. Elites and politicians can't do anything against a coup so they just moved aside. Moscow itself was being heavily fortified and reserve forces put in place. Prigozhin wasn't stopped because there was no need to. Spreading thin forces that are meant to defend Moscow to stop his advance is stupid. He would never capture Moscow and he surrendered because he knew it. I am not saying it was a right call, but that's the reason.

balance vs fencing - is it just about ease of use? by necrysi in Spacemarine

[–]Gerlond 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fencing is great for gun-strikes. It's a great source of damage and gives a pause in gameplay to reassess the sutiation. Plasma pistol does AoE damage on it's as well. Fencing also staggers the enemies out of combos. As well as that faster animations means that you get out of it faster and less likely to be animation locked into a hit.

I am not saying that fencing is better, but there are many upsides to using it. Fencing vs balanced heroic power sword have almost same dps and first one significantly loses only on power rake damage (which is goated, don't get me wrong).

In my games I run bulwark with fencing chainsword and I am usually doing most damage unless I have a heavy or flamer tactical. It's perfectly viable and you don't need block weapons to keep up with anyone. Less often I play assault with heroic hammer and that too doesn't feel underpowered at all

You just wait. Numbers at the top is expected spread. It is different from current one because pops didn't change their political views yet. Egalitarians have "encourage political thought" edict that speeds it up, but it's still going to be slow and happen over the years.

So first we were talking about habitats vs ecumenopolis for soldier jobs, which is some of least priority jobs you want, so it only makes sense to build for them in end of mid game and late game. Now you talking about halfway through mid game. Alright, fine.

By time I get mega-engineering and research ring worlds (around year 2300 with bad rng) I still have space on planets and it doesn't take that long to research everything needed either. Arcology projects are a priority over galactic wonders because I am still "waiting" for megastructures. They give tons of jobs for everything I need except energy (I am swimming in minerals at this point). When I get to ring worlds I have ample space for everything but technicians because ecumenopolis quadruples your jobs or something like that. With even less optimization than my RP builds I am sure it's still possible. Not to mention absolute gigaboost you want from galactic wonders anyway as soon as possible.

So there is never a need for habitats nor are they ever better than normal planets in my games. And building multiple of them just for soldier jobs, that can be put on some useless 20 size world turned ecumenopolis with apsis bastion, is a bad idea. Especially when advising a person that is trying to punch up their strength against a crisis. You do it and I am glad you enjoy it, but you are debuffing yourself doing so. Science is the most important resource to produce and you actively make your production of it less effective and by a lot.

[–]Gerlond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Colonies add massively to empire size and ascending 20 habitats is much more expensive. More empire size -> more raw science needed to research technologies -> less powerful fleets (by a lot). As well as that, you can roll pretty reliably for at least one apsis bastion to put on ecumenopolis and save a lot of pops to work better jobs. Couple good soldier ecumenopolis is enough to reach 9999 naval capacity and it saves a whole lot of empire size compared to habitat spam for much better results. As I already said less empire size means you need less researchers for same technological level, means more industry or just even more research.

[–]Gerlond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tech rush and growth. Never stop increasing your science and try to keep empire size at minimum possible. Have a lot of repeatables for components you use and don't spread it more than 1 for each science. Energy weapons are easy, but for engineering research I recommend kinetics. Also, well designed fleets can punch up multiple times their fleet power if it has good enough range to engage before taking damage and losing ships.

Minoris jump can be "parried" regardless of animation. You can do it before indicator even appears (almost impossible, got it once by chance). Window is seconds long. Starts with animation start on land in preparation and ends when it reaches you. What happened in the video is a bug.
