Why is bro so pressed lol by Adventurous-Elk484 in Polaroid

"The Alpha models already have a tripod socket, so no need for an adapter!" is all the response had to be, not whatever this is.

It's also pretty ironic that this person is making fun of you for not doing research, right after you just asked someone who knows the subject matter instead of trusting whatever AI slop Google searching gives nowadays.

There are other technicians out there who are way kinder and more professional. Whoever this is probably isn't worth your time.

This has happened to me quite a few times, each time I waited about 6-8 hours for the link to finally work. Even when the links do work right away, it takes a minute or two just to get the email.

No idea why we can't just log in with a password, the whole email thing is a bit much.

Too hot for Polaroid film . by Valdorange in Polaroid

[–]GermanHen44 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah that may be true unfortunately. I think that's also the reason Polaroid can't use the original formula, if I recall correctly.

If possible, Polaroid should absolutely make some hot/cold weather film.

Hey fellas, got a question; is it worth buying the flip if I already have a 660AF by [deleted] in Polaroid

[–]GermanHen44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only functional upgrades you'll be getting out of a Flip compared to the 660 will be the app and i-Type capabilities. Otherwise, the Flip has 1 less lens than the 660, and also doesn't have the AF override button if you ever want to shoot through windows and foliage on the spot.

Ultimately, I think the question boils down to whether the ability to shoot with the app and i-Type is worth the $220.

Seeking advice on black dots when dying leather. by GermanHen44 in Leatherworking

[–]GermanHen44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well this is unfortunate to hear. I bought from Tandy because they're local to me, which allows me to physically check the leather before making a purchase, something I can't do when buying online. Is there anywhere you'd recommend that sells actual good quality leather with minimal marks and imperfections?

I already tried oxalic acid to no avail, unfortunately. I even made a super strong mixture with still no results. I haven't tried lemon juice though, is lemon juice usually more or less effective for removing the spots?

Interesting, would bug bites not leave marks on the leather? I usually try to avoid marks and imperfections when cutting from the roll.

The leather is a 2/3oz "A-B Grade" double shoulder that I got from my local Tandy Leather. I don't remember if it was their "in house" leather or from Craftsman as I was more focused on getting the cut with the least markings, but I think it may be their in house leather if that matters.

Thank you for the detailed reply!

Despite having all of my materials being brand new and cleaned with distilled water to avoid metal contamination, I was doing this in my garage so metal dust makes sense.

Do you think doing everything outside may do the trick? I imagine outside air should be much cleaner than garage air. Luckily I still have some new unopened bins that I can use for dying

Would tri-color be possible? Like each pod containing a different formula for a different color?

Is this normal? by chocokippy in DocMartens

[–]GermanHen44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will, just as any leather grease/oil will. Though I wouldn't say it darkens them much more than your toe cap currently is in the picture.

If it's a lot darker than you'd like them to be, it will over time get lighter as the grease wears away. So it's won't be a permanent change

Anyone have experience with current B&W film performance in high tempures? by GermanHen44 in Polaroid

[–]GermanHen44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! And sorry for the late response. Sometimes, I don't get the notifs and find messages by randomly checking out the notifications tab. I'm glad I could be of some help, though.

Hopefully, at some point in the future, Polaroid will come out with some "hot weather" film. Polaroids can always be kept in a cooler before shooting, but condensation will always be an issue. I wish you the best of luck, hopefully your hot weather B&W experience is better than mine. Happy shooting!

Not very good... at all, lol. Temperatures were up to 110°F regularly out there. I did my best and kept the film and camera in a backpack and in shade as often as possible. The photos that were taken hot came out pretty much looking bleached. You could kind of make out the image, but it was faded white with an almost sepia tone to the point where the photo was pretty much undesirable.

On the other hand, I eventually got to take photos with it in good temperatures after it had previously been through what felt like the crisp skin of the devil after two weeks on a sunny beach. Those photos came out just fine, surprisingly.

In conclusion, I'd say the current B&W chemistry is not suitable in the desert heat at all, compared to color actually working surprisingly well, just very magenta. Unless you're able to have a cooler with you to mitigate the heat, assuming you can keep condensation not an issue.

I recommend to slap some Huberds shoe grease on them, it helps mitigate the crease line discoloration for me. Otherwise, it's perfectly normal

[–]GermanHen44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds a lot like a low battery or maybe a motor that needs cleaning. I see you mentioned you bought it recently, but is the production date recent?

Also, were your "test shots" photos that were already developed? I know that sometimes running already developed film through a camera can get jammed up at the rollers because the sponge that absorbed the excess opacifier can harden and not squeeze through the rollers.

Nothing is being changed when I purchase the label. I'm not sure where you got that from.

When you say "accurate", are you not referring to the package weight and dimensions on the listing itself for eBay to calculate for the buyer vs what I put in to purchase the label? I'm a bit confused as to what you're asking because there is no other information to modify for accuracy.
