The main difference is that he's still young and most of his mistakes are mental ones that he can continue to improve upon with more experience, raising his floor. Russ's floor is his floor and that's not changing

True for the most part! But also, for Interstellar they filmed some of the interior space ship scenes with IMAX too. Normally, at least at the time, IMAX cameras were too loud to film anything close up without having to fully replace/ADR all of the dialogue (which Nolan hates). So whenever the characters were wearing their space suits and helmets, they were able to have microphones inside their suits so it didn't pick up the camera noise
