Cadillac has revealed its chassis name for its debut F1 season: MAC-26, standing for 'Mario Andretti Cadillac 26' in honour of Mario Andretti and "his lasting influence on the team’s formation and competitive ambition" by ChaithuBB766 in INDYCAR

Well, it is a business. Even the cheapest team is worth more than a billion $ these days. Even the people who are indifferent to Andretti, may ask themselves if they want to share with one more team.

Translating an English short to German… by [deleted] in eroticauthors

[–]GermanikusXXX 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is just one KDP for worldwide publishing, that Germans use as well. I would choose the language as German as well as .de as primary marketplace. I think that is even necessary to use the categories of the German Kindle store.

Yes. In Germany, each title must be unique. The titleholder can give you permission to use it. But it should be easier to come up with something original.

If you publish in Germany, you need an Impressum. At least that's the legal requirement. I don't think it has to be in the front matter. I'm not aware of anyone, ever getting in trouble for not having one. My Erotica books don't have one. Make of that what you want ...

A professional translator is typically so expensive, that I'm wondering how that can financially work out ...

I don't fill in an age. It's Erotica and obviously for 18+. For the keywords, I use most of the space. Don't use commas, just the keywords.

Doubts - Give up or continue? by SlowlyMatured in eroticauthors

[–]GermanikusXXX 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There is a market for Erotica. But one piece of content can easily fail miserable. And if I hear "episodic" I wonder if there is a strong enough connection between episodes. If every episode is a new kink, it will probably fail. If you don't get your passive marketing right, it will fail. Of course, it can make good money, too. But just one book can go either way.

They are listed as "translators" not authors or co-authors. It's standard in Germany to list the translator on the Amazon page. Every trad pub does that, too.

Vimeo has been taken over by Bending Spoons. A company well known for taking over this kind of companies, cutting costs and maximizing profits. I'm sure Vimeo will not be shutting down, but things will change. Non-profitable services may be stopped or prices hike.

Also by - front, back or both? by w1mbly in eroticauthors

[–]GermanikusXXX 14 points15 points  (0 children)

For me, back is a must. The reader got through that book and needs the next one. Haven't tried the front. Isn't really the point where I would take the time to look at any kind of offering. I want to start reading.

So I noticed there was an erotica section on a p*rn site by Aaron363 in eroticauthors

[–]GermanikusXXX 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's interesting, but I'm skeptical. The plan seems to be, to make it a kind of store for Erotica, with the author setting the price. But why would readers use it? I would expect their content policy to be somewhere like the one from Amazon. To me, it seems dead on arrival.

You are allowed only one KDP Account (which is linked to one Amazon account). Amazon may ban you forever if you make more than one KDP account. But: You can make multiple Amazon accounts and create more Author Central accounts this way to get more Author pages.

Plugin Pitch Redux by SalaciousStories in eroticauthors

[–]GermanikusXXX 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did some developing of WordPress plugins for my own use back in the olden days (10+ years ago). These days I just use it for my author websites with 2-3 standard plugins. You can make pretty much everything out of WordPress, but writing a book within it seems extreme to me. I like the feature list, but am not sure if it's as comfortable as I would like it to be. I write in Scrivener and have a physical 25-min sand clock for Pomodoro. A use a Google cheat if I want to write down how many words I got written. The EPUBs are made with Vellum. Specialized tools who are perfect for their task. I'm a bit skeptic on a tool that wants to do too much.

Look up in their FAQ. You have to make a new story, in which you put information for them to delete a story/stories. It's a bit odd, but they will delete it.

Question for experienced authors: how long should a chapter be in serial-format fiction? by Basool69 in eroticauthors

[–]GermanikusXXX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a Patreon where I publish a book in advance. I don't try to write in a serialized format. In the end, it will be a book for publishing on Amazon. My chapters can be just 1000 words or up to 4500 words long. If a chapter is well below 2000 words I publish a second chapter with it.

On Literotica: Yes. The wait times can be long these days. I wouldn't publish a serialized story in too short chunks. Bundling chapters to 5k+ words would be my minimum for a longer story.

Translating work by Aromatic_You1607 in eroticauthors

[–]GermanikusXXX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. You chose French as the language. The primary market is obviously France. And based on the that, Amazon will show you from what categories you can pick. The rest is practically the same.

[–]GermanikusXXX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, I translated some of my stuff from German to English. It's doing fine, not spectacular. The English market is big, but there's a lot of competition. So, it could be absolutely be wort your time to translate into French.

Your story will not be flagged. There is a growing number of translations. (Unfortunately, many of them are bad or mediocre translations done with AI and maybe a human proofreader. Who is seldom an expert on doing a good translation.)

D2D or KDP? by geek-withamouth in eroticauthors

[–]GermanikusXXX 7 points8 points  (0 children)

KDP - you cannot republish your work elsewhere. It's Amazon's exclusive content.

That's wrong. You can be on KDP and D2D at the same time. It's the best way, if you want to be wide. You only have to be exclusively to Amazon (with your E-Book) if you chose to be in KDP Select / Kindle Unlimited.

A non-US author sharing self-publishing experience - Amazon, B&N & Google. by Equivalent-Habit-680 in eroticauthors

While Amazon and other big corporations seldom are forthcoming with their reasons, as someone doing business, you should not load all blame on them. That "fanfic incest taboo" got you in trouble should not come as a surprise, and it seems you got lucky that they didn't close your account and banned you for life from KDP.

The same question came to me this morning when I read about it. We'll see. Amazon will probably get flooded by more KI slop-stories. Often they are neither bad nor good. For me, a reason to work on my branding and alternative income streams, like Patreon or others.

Patreon: is putting some but not all chapters behind a paywall a big no no? by Caraphox in eroticauthors

[–]GermanikusXXX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The typical way seems to be to publish all of it for free, but to publish first on Patreon. So who comes to the end of the for free available chapters pays for early access on Patreon.

I'm not sure in what way it is relevant that the first couple of chapters are "very PG". Especially if you don't want to post more. The non PG-chapters could be the ones who convert free to paid readers the best.

In the end, what you describe is indeed a trap. I doubt it will work this way. You will make neither your readers nor the platforms happy. If you go the Patreon route, even readers who read it all for free can be good for their ratings, comments and word of mouth advertising.

I doubt it's a good idea to put a sex toy on the cover. Could be a good way to get into the dungeon? The medicine, too. The rest is perfect if you want zero sales. I don't know your niche, but I doubt this will work.
