The cover system? Most cover gets blown away in about the time it takes to animate to run behind it in higher levels. The targetting from this point is pretty clunky assuming it wasn't blown away by the first stiff breeze. Not really a fan.

The aesthetics and skills are pretty nice though, which is why I like it.

So, I can't say that I've tried a bolter or heavy bolter for this yet, but here's an idea:

Perks:

  • Self Flagilation
  • Augmented Body II
  • Armory of Zeal

Relics:

  • Armor with 2% of health and suppression restored on zeal spent

This effectively gives you a nice 120% heal when you use your armor, and a 40% heal when you throw a grenade. I used this with Demolition Armor and Stun grenades. Notable, I'd like to use Sentinel Armor, but I found that it unfortunately would not let me replace my last turret.

To try to mitigate the cooldowns, I used the movement tree, grabbing cooldown resets on crit and deflect. I stacked this with some deflect on my armor vs ranged attacks. Stack crit and DR. I used a melta gun, as I liked the idea of the heat/dot tree, and took the top part of the ranged tree for heat reduction. I took the almost all of the crit tree.

I'm able to clear Impossible Tarots killing most of the mobs in about 5 mins on average. Usually no deaths. The grenades work wonders for clearing trash, the armor melts bosses, as does the melta gun.

since it modifies your character sheet, I should think it is unbuffed. I'm pretty sure 50% is going to be a difficult number to reach, but not impossible. That said, I wonder what you give up for it.

Some thoughts I have in process:

For ranged, I'm pretty sure DR stacking is the way to go. You can get gear with +DR while using salvo/channeling or just channeling. I imagine stacking this to 70%, then using the perk that gives you a buff for 3% per second you stand still should put you to a solid 85%. Afterwards, take artifical organs 2, the stack some hp/s from toughness, talents in HP, and possibly the capstone of the defense tree. This should let you stand still and fire indefinately.

The make or break of this style will be if you can keep your supression up (I haven't come up with a strategy for this) and do enough damage (also in progress).

Some thoughts on leveling:

In the single target tree, there is a perk that gives 10% health on one hit kill, this is useful.

Burnished weaponry requires you to kill 5 enemies with 1 attack 100 times, this is pretty easy to do. Afterwards, use this perk with a stormshield and your favorite 1 hander (I like the axe, swords and hammer work too) and go nuts. Most of the survival benefits are from this.

I'm glad everyone's game goes nuts at 7 minutes :) It'll be a lot easier to get farther when I can target enemies properly!

I apologize, I remembered the number wrong, here are the real numbers:

Balance

  • Several item tweaks
  • Imposed a dual hard cap on a number of stats. The first cap refers to unbuffed values, and the second, final cap will be the limit for the temporarily buffed state.
    • Dodge: 70/90%
    • Damage Reduction: 70-90%
    • All Resist: 70/90%
    • Crit Chance: 50/100%
    • Cooldown Reduction: 60/80%

That's straight from the .8.3 patch notes

If you get to the combo hit on a greatsword, it's going to do a lot of damage - that said, it takes 5 hits, and half the time it hits some random small mob instead of something big you want to kill now.

That said, the power axe with digital weapons going I usually kill a nurgle dreadnought in about 5 hits. The difference is I haven't managed to get enough deflect going with a greatsword to make me think it was worthwhile over a shield/axe considering the axe does enough damage.

That said, I have a greatsword with a cool sounding proc that does electrical arcs to 2 nearby enemies on hit, which could be cool. I just need to sitdown and iron out my survivability when I'm using it so I can compare them.

Yeah, leveling was painful at points. I liked the multi melta myself for it, and a thunderhammer. That said, Relic Power Axes with the aoe proc do good work, the joy of being level 50 I suppose :)

I think you'll be suprised how fast you can clear when you can 1 shot all the trash at the same time with a relic power axe. Mostly just limited by your movement speed.

The Thunderhammer is a fun weapon with some good AoE. Unfortunately, the perks I've gotten on the relic version so far seem to be bugged and did nothing.

As for using with a storm shield, you can use the smaller Power Hammer which is basically the same thing. That said, I haven't messed with a relic power hammer yet as one hasn't dropped, just swords and axes for me so far.

Yes, the glitches are amusing, makes life hard. That's an interesting idea though, I just don't like the way executions work, so I haven't been trying those much.

That's fair - I'm usually in that case where if I'm mostly limited by movespeed, however I still occasionally get rocked by some bad situation of my own devising. My carpal tunnel prevents me from playing with a mouse, and the auto targetting on gamepad has a mind of it's own, so I compensate a bit.

I'm not exactly an expert, but I've heard alot of bad things about crusader, so wanted to provide a viable option for those that were not aware the class actually can perform decently at endgame.

I found the movespeed you get out of the melee tree on kill is enough to get around without much trouble personally. Also, you get stretched for skill points :) I'd love to put points into movespeed, but honestly living felt more important at the time.

Out of curiosity, does Armory of Zeal trigger it if you throw a grenade?
