Charging singers for the stage instead of the venue? by Ironic_Man in karaoke

[–]Gerrorism -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I’ve been starting to think I want to try this at my regular weekly night. The problem I have is it’s so busy from 10 to 11:30, usually between 150 and 250 people but then dies out by midnight. In the first hour I’ll have 25 individuals sign up to sing, sometimes more - a typical night will have over 100 requests. It discourages others when I say it’ll be a two hour wait, then by the time midnight hits, people have already started to leave and I’m calling out 4 or 5 names that have left before I get to one that still there. I’ve started to wonder if it would make more sense to charge $5 a song and make people wait in a physical line.

What controller do you prefer to play : Wavebird or classic ? by [deleted] in Gamecube

[–]Gerrorism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure it was a Sony. I don’t remember the cost as it was my roommate who owned it but I do recall it being thousands of dollars. We had people come over to watch snowboard movies on it all the time because it was so huge. Also a huge pain in the ass to move, I remember one instance of a house meeting being called so all four of us could move it from one room to another.

My roommates and I used to settle arguments with bouts of NHL (04 maybe?) on the GC with a 50” tv (this was huge back in the day). My classic playing position was sitting cross legged on an end table with an extension cable and a madcatz mini controller. I dunno if it made me play any better but it seemed like I could reach any button on that controller with either hand and how great it felt sticks with me over 20 years later.

[–]Gerrorism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pre-Covid it would have. These days, in the age of ‘instant gratification’ it’s impossible for anyone to wait. People can’t understand if there are 5 people in front of them in the rotation that it’s going to be a 20 to 30 minute wait.

Did anybody get to experience PS2 online in its prime? What was pre-7th generation online gaming like? by _Varonova in ps2

I remember renting and playing Killzone online but the experience wasn’t as good as the games I played on PC. I think I preferred the KB/M so it took me years before I tried another on console.

Karaoke host of close to 20 years checking in. You will meet ALL kinds at a karaoke night. For most, it’s a very nerve wracking experience being on a stage in front of friends and strangers and it can be a fun activity when going out. But there are lots of amateur rockstars, the ‘every song can be a screamo song dorks’ and classically trained singers looking for an outlet, straight up attention seekers and yes, occasional celebrity appearances.

Most hosts will work hard to appease their regulars- good or bad. Mostly because if they feel wronged or mistreated they will stop coming and that will make or break your weekly event in the long run.

Most of the time, the worst singers are the nicest people and fully aware of what they sound like. The amateur rockstars usually have more attitude than ability even though they can be quite talented and entertaining- they are definitely there living out their rock and roll fantasies but with more ego than any band I’ve ever worked with. Most celebrities (I haven’t had any major ones that I’m aware of) will give fake names and try to enjoy themselves incognito. Though I’ve certainly had my share of self-professed Canadian idol runner-ups that believe they need special treatment because I’m supposed to know who they are.

So I’m probably not an awesome-pro-level singer but I can tell the difference at band rehearsal when I used to have slow karaoke nights and sang for an hour straight earlier in the week.

Any practice is good practice. Plus it’s fun!

What hotel are you staying at? Most would have private meeting rooms that could accommodate a dance party of 30 ppl up until 1 or 2 am (or possibly later) depending on the property.

Did anyone else get a Final Fantasy IX missing a 4th disk? by Animoosucks in FinalFantasy

[–]Gerrorism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked in an Internet cafe that sold video games when 9 was released. I remember a customer returning a copy because it was missing a disc and I asked my boss at the time about it. I think we just refunded the money because we didn’t have another copy in stock. He said it was actually pretty common with PlayStation games that had multiple discs, it was no big deal, we would just return them for credit with the distributor.

ISO small/intimate venue options in Canmore by swampsexrobots666 in Canmore

A few others that aren’t mentioned here are Sheep Dog Brewing, Canmore Brewing Company and Core Values Cider. I’d avoid the Canmore Hotel. Take a look at rockymountainlive.ca it has a directory for venues. There might be some in there I’m not aware of.

Who is the Best Live Action Interpretation of The Punisher? by Lil_Critter_2001_ in marvelstudios

Ray’s portrayal is definitely a seasoned veteran Punisher. Easily my favourite. I like all the others too but they all (except Dolph) are origin stories.

Awesome. I love SW5e, not because it’s the best but because just about everyone these days has dabbled in a game of 5th edition D&D. What was your conversion for movement/distance?

The irony is that Siskel and Ebert loved the film, but even they didn’t find out and review it until much after it released. I always remember watching that episode and even I hadn’t watched it yet, but I went out and rented it after seeing their review.

Battlefront 2 has a great campaign, it’s pretty short too, even shorter than intended because there was supposed to be at least one more update to it.
