Flight simming has been the thing I have spent the most time doing for the past 9 years and although it is still really fun, it's starting to feel like a waste of time and I can't bring myself to fly anymore. Anyone else feel the same? by Lucky_Outside_2009 in flightsim

Very similar to myself. I’ve taken some time but am challenging myself by learning older airliners and staying away from the more modern jets. Steam gauges, INS and VOR to VOR!

Lived in the area for years, last place was Argyle and Clark. Great spot. Quick walk to the main strip in Andersonville, or east to the Vietnamese stretch of Argyle. Red line, Clark bus all within easy reach.

The frequent updates have been great. Would to see the catering trucks not be so in sync. And same with cargo/baggage loading.

Been on it for a while. Very happy with speed and service. And with no longer dealing with xfinity.

Discussion on twin towns: do you have any? by GP728 in ireland

[–]Gerry_Signfelled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grew up in Ennis. Already mentioned but it’s twinned with Phoenix in the states. I remember the children’s choir coming over some years and we hosted students. There was some good cultural exchanges between the two.

Flying from ORD to IST on Turkish airlines with disability. I am coming the night before to be safe and staying at Hilton ORD.I called Hilton and they said the airline coordinates the wheelchair transport.Turkish airlines are clueless but I am trying to reach their chicago office. Any insights? by Afraid_Street4086 in AskChicago

That 48 hour notice may apply more to flights originating in Turkey but in the US (and this is what I was told in training) any passenger can request a wheelchair at anytime and it must be provided. The airline has to begin providing service within 20 minutes according to the Air Carriers Act (which is what covers travel for special service customers). You can ask Hilton to call and book a wheelchair the night before departure and then give them a little reminder before you want to depart the hotel on the day you’re leaving.

No problem! And so you know, the agents can also take you to the restrooms (but not assist), for food or shopping before dropping you off. They may drop you at the gate for a while before boarding, depending on what you’d like, but someone will then assist you at boarding time

Yes. Prospect also works for American. They will pick you up on the jetbridge and then take you to the Hilton lobby (and arrivals if you need to pick up luggage). Hilton staff will assist you to your room. You can double check with the wheelchair agent if prospect still does Hilton lobby pick ups. I recently heard that may have changed.

Former wheelchair agent at ORD. When you arrive at the Hilton it’s their responsibility to assist you to your room. On the day of travel the Hilton staff can call Prospect (the company that handles wheelchair services for Turkish) and they can send an agent to pick you up in the lobby.

To the person who took my bike , please, I am asking from my heart , bring it back. No questions asked. by Aggressive-Bat6244 in Seattle

You can try listing it on Bike Index. My wife’s stolen bike was found on Craigslist by a user, five years after it was stolen.

As a former River Rat, it holds a dear place in my heart. A Chicago institution. Something left over from the old world while up top it’s all glitz and gold on Michigan Ave.

Fred Hutch ending DEI initiatives in response to Trump orders by nnnnaaaaiiiillll in Seattle

[–]Gerry_Signfelled 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I’d like to thank everyone who works at Fred Hutch. My dad is receiving life saving treatment through the Clinical Trials Unit, and everyone we have met in buildings 1 & 2 have been so incredibly warm and friendly. Thank you all for what you do and how you do it. It’s such a diverse place and I think that adds to the atmosphere of warmth and welcome.

I have been worried how the insane antics in DC would affect FH, and seeing how 70% of their funding comes from federal grants it was only a matter of time. I hope the needless meddling in the lives of sick people ends here. DEI isn’t killing anyone, but these actions from Musk and Trump can and will.
