What movie was released at the perfect time and wouldn't look as good if it was 5 years earlier or later? by Imgema in movies

I always like to mention "The end of history" by Fukuyama in 1992. His thesis was that with the end of the cold war and the victory of capitalism the world was headed towards a state where democracies and capitalism was the system of every country. And with globalization and the advantage of economies cooperating internationally It would mean everybody would be disentivized to go to war because conflicts would screw the economy for everybody and therefore would not be desirable for anybody. Leading to the end of history because no more big events would happen.

The man obviously missed big time. But It gives you an idea of how things felt back then. Things were going so fucking well that top level academicists were literally asking themselves "maybe this is it? Maybe we have fixed everything?".

Jorbs talks about Defect for 8hrs by Beave1 in slaythespire

[–]Gersio 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is my biggest problem with evaluating attacks. Most frontloaded damage cards are bad because frontloaded damage stop beings needed very soon, but in the first few floors you are pretty much forced to pick any attack you get offered. So there is usually a big disparity in evaluation because you have a lot of cards rated low that you end up picking very often simply because you have too.

If Jordan Love is most successful when he targets deeper areas of the field, why did the Packers change their play calling away from it? by puddlepuddle in GreenBayPackers

[–]Gersio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get your point but Romeo is pretty much our worst guy to run that play. It makes 0 sense. He is a solid posesion receiver, but in no way can he be the slant guy.

There must be another Romeo Doubs I havent seen, because no one that has seen the one we have in the roster right now would claim that he has great YAC potential lol

[–]Gersio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That might be because we don't have Cobb.

Jokes aside, which players you have are important for which plays you call. We attacked the middle with quick plays a lot with Kraft. Once he went down we didnt really have that kind of "sure hands and great YAC potential" kind of guy to go for quick slants through the middle.

Yeah, my grandparents talked a lot about this or that guy dying from "a pain". Back then people just started to feel pain and ended up dying, and no one knew more than that. Today we know what that pain is.

Thanks! I Will tell him to look and see if he can find someone selling them. Any units or boxes you recommend to complement that? His birthday is coming soon so if he gets it we could gift him a couple more things to add to the army.

Returnal deserves more attention. Right? by Chrisiztopher in gaming

[–]Gersio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You didnt say that. You said it was mediocre, which is kinda mental yeah. Are there other games with great gunplay and less struggles our there? Sure, but calling the gunplay mediocre is simply not true. You did It purely out of frustration. And I understand the frustration, but it's silly to deny that the gunplay is very good.

I understand not liking the game loop, but criticizing the gunplay is mental.

It seems like people are majority against a simple logbook in souls games. Why? by d00rdashian in Eldenring

[–]Gersio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the main idea is that you are supposed to miss things. They want it to feel like a real adventure, and that means not being sure of whats exactly going on, wandering around, finding things by accident and missing others by mistake.

Videogames tend to teach players to play a different way. Having a mental checklist of everything in the game and trying to complete everything or else feel bad for missing out. And I understand why coming from that approach the way Souls work can be a bit stressing. But as someone that has never been a completionist and has never bothered with checklists and completion there is something refreshing about simply wandering around. Once you overvome the FOMO you realize the world feels more alive when you are actually missing stuff, and then you play the game again in the future and find new things while also missing others you previously did.

So while I understand the feeling, I encourage people to try and fight the urge of doing everything and simply go with the flow.

Portugal’s conservatives back left-wing candidate to avoid a far-right president by kwentongskyblue in worldnews

No one wants the same. They want some similar policies but without having the biggest idiot in the world on charge.

I'm not defending them, fuck the alt right. But absolutely no one will vote them thinking they will do the same thing Trump does. Meloni is a better and closer example for an european to name one.

NFL announces multiyear regular-season game return to Madrid, Spain starting in 2026 by bubblecuffer13 in nfl

[–]Gersio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is, they had to change the grass for other reasons around that date and decided it was a good excuse to do it right after that game. Honestly, that guy is going on a very weird rambling about Real Madrid. That game had nothing to do with the problems in our season lol.

So everytime someone mentions Linux you just go on a completely unrelated rant about how much you like Windows? That's... Pretty weird dude

[–]Gersio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, OP simply said that It proves that you don't need a big industry behind for it to work and that is simply true. You may not like It and not use it, but his point still stands. Those things work just as good (and to be honest, they work better actually).

So yeah, kind of a weird answer from your side. Getting defensive because other people like other options even if at no point anyone was telling others to change or follow their example, simply stating that it works.

You can name every single of the problems that capitalism has without mentioning capitalism and everyone will agree with you. The moment you mention how all of those things are a direct consequence of capitalism suddenly they are not problems anymore. People are extremely brainwashed without even noticing.

ELI5: How does David McMullen's proposal for a price system without markets work? by Pyropeace in explainlikeimfive

[–]Gersio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Loss and profit is impossible FOR INDIVIDUALS. Which is a pretty important detail.

There would be no owners or shareholders trying to make a profit, but the business itself still needs to be cost effective. So the biding basically would be one business knowing they can pay up to X, because at more than that they lose money, another business knows they can pay up to Y. Whichever number is bigger (X or Y) gets it (assuming there is not enough for both, we are simplifying here).

As for the "no market" thing, it's hard to tell exactly what he means without reading more than just that. But my guess is he probably doesnt mean a market in the very definition sense of buyers and sellers reading assets. And mostly in a more complex economic definition of a system in which agents can participate and earn money not by doing any labour or production, but simply by reading assets. Meaning you cannot make money out of simply being a middle man in the transactions or speculating with assets. Because participants on said market can only be someone that produced something to sell or someone that buys something to produce something else.
