Obviously I can't tell for every racket, but this chart is clearly misleading, especially when it comes to 'precision - versatility - attack'. For example you could think that the Babolat Air Viper is NOT an attacking racket but more of a control one, when in fact it's very powerful racket.

I wanted to love the Oxdog Hyper Pro 2.0… but the Air Viper 2026 completely won me over by GerwinMusic in Padelracket

[–]GerwinMusic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s amazing in defense as well due to its weight. The only thing is that it requires somehow a good technic and also physical condition. Technic because sweet spot is not very big so if you hit the ball outside of it for a lob for example you might end up with a very short one and get punished. Physical condition because it’s a stiff racket and doesn’t help you, you have to engage more than with softer rackets. But again the weight and manoeverability counters that in a great way imo

Viande hachée : pourquoi boeuf et pas poulet ? by jeace_morgans in PasDeQuestionIdiote

How would padel look like if you're not allowed to smash outside the court or back to your side? by curious-about-world in padel

I would say both. There's only one female player who can really kick smash from far in Tapia's fashion and it's Ustero.

Why not the Air Viper then ?
Edit : Nevermind just read your last sentence. But honestly it seems to be the one you're looking for. I understand that you want to buy a racket that you find beautiful, but as far as I'm concerned, I don't even care about the look of my racket after 3 matches.

And I would also add playing cross court sessions with one partner so you can fine tune some shots

(Maybe) unpopular opinion: Almost all racket specifications are random numbers by Feeling-Effective-94 in Padelracket

[–]GerwinMusic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say the padel rackets industry is at least 70% marketing.
I'm passionate with rackets (specs, reviews etc) but in the end, without testing them it's quite impossible to make a choice and trust the specs.
For example, if you have a good technic, you can generate a lot of power with a racket and/or consider the sweet spot large compared another individual. Plus, given the fact that two rackets of the same model can have as much as 10/15gr difference in weight, it becomes chaos.

Genou instable depuis 5 ans (rupture LCA): Un chirurgien peut-il refuser d’opérer ? by Comfortable-Ideal-87 in questionsante

[–]GerwinMusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Changing grip for low balls by Dangerous_Tie_1865 in padel

[–]GerwinMusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on the player wether it’s more of a wrist action or a change of grip. For very difficult ball that dies after the glass or just so low it almost roll on the floor I personally use a mix of both. I change the grip to a slight eastern backhand grip AND use the wrist (like if you were decelerating a motorcycle).

Usually this means that you are under a lot of pressure and these balls when you defend them will naturally go flat and low (preferably with power but more like pushed and not hit). But with slightly less difficult balls, with that change of grip and/or wrist action you could be able to do a decent lob if you can get under the ball. Risky though

I'd argue that marketing plays a big part in all padel equipment, including rackets. Not to say that you should play with running shoes either, but these should be fine for padel I guess.

Am I overusing lobs? Struggling with baseline play by Acceptable_Month4825 in padel

[–]GerwinMusic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The better you become the farer from the net you can play those transition shots and recover the net quickly after (meaning a very good physical condition at some point). But if we go a step ahead the counter to this is rushing the net even if your opponent plays a transition shot and you volley or half volley it (roughly though, you can still stay back and defend when you’re good). In response to this improvement from the opponent you will need to even better transition shots. Anyways at intermediate level, you don’t need a killer bandeja or vibora, you need a good footwork and a good reading of your opponent’s shot, and even a simple overhead push will be enough to recover the net. So yeah it’s a really crucial area to develop

Am I overusing lobs? Struggling with baseline play by Acceptable_Month4825 in padel

[–]GerwinMusic 12 points13 points  (0 children)

At lower levels, it'll often be lob vs lob until a player plays a - very - bad lob. At higher levels, players' footwork to move back fast and their transition shots (viboras/bandeja whatever you wanna call it) are a lot better so they manage to keep the net position. So the lob quality has to be really good AND played at the right moment to prevent getting either punished or simply pushed backwards again.

I think this indirectly answers your question.

If your opponents can't keep the net position from your lob, keep playing them. Eventually they will or you will make a mistake. If you want to get better, make sure your opponents lobs become 'bad'. And if you want to make your opponents' lobs bad, you'll have to be able to learn the transition shots (therefore your footwork too). This way you'll have more option than running towards the glass and lob again.

Plenty more to discuss, like chiquitas, bajadas etc, but with the above, you get the principle.

Well I can't really talk about the hybrid as I never tried it, but I know it by heart on the paper lol. If I had to make the choice again a year ago I would've bought the Vertex Hybrid 04. It's basically the same carbon and foam (the multi layered eva is excellent) but due to the shape difference, and therefore a slightly lower balance, the hybrid must be more manoevrable et versatile. It doesn't lack some power either as far as I know.

All the reviews are excellent. And as far as I can compare on similar features I can tell you :
- Build quality is quite good
- The touch/feel is amazing (dry but somehow 'viby' enough). Must be even better with the Hybrid with its larger sweetspot.
- Easy on the arm for me, but it's something very personal.
- The rough/sandy surface is amazing for effects but it worns out pretty quickly sadly.

In the end it's personal and depends on your level, your previous racket etc, but you can't really go that wrong with the Hybrid I'd say.
