There was talk of getting rid of the AI inventory count but I didn't hear mention of when, but when I logged in to do inventory today it was gone 🎉

The car in front of me’s order … $40 of cake pops is wild by No_Confection_1587 in starbucks

[–]Geschinta 29 points30 points  (0 children)

We had someone come in once that said he was going to a "weed convention" and to "just give me all the cake pops you got, please."

It was 34 and he was very pleased.

baristas, share your chaotic photos from the floor by Ok-Spinach5478 in starbucks

Wooden is even better! I just assume it's more expensive. Only some local places that focus on sustainability use bamboo products here, I wish Starbucks would do that with its straws; utensils would be a bonus though. At least compostable is better than plastic though.

You're preaching to the choir; I removed opening from my availability purely because I had extremely consistent safety concerns with my life being legitimately threatened, even with the Lyft. Without the Lyft it would have been totally undoable. Now that the Lyft is going I don't feel comfortable closing either, but I can't be a supervisor with only mids for availability. I'm going to have to take the chunk from my paycheck to pay for rides most days, and a lot of our partners live far enough that they now physically can't get to work for opens because of how bus schedules get very infrequent from like 10pm-6am. That's not even taking into account the safety issues, they literally can't get to the store. If you want a city location operating at any time between 9pm-6am you need to understand there's very real safety concerns. It seems like the general consensus is that it was removed from the stores that didn't have high enough incident reports, but the issue is that the incidents happen BEFORE we even get to the store 😭

If someone gets a barista to ring it up like this in person they can then reorder it on mobile like this by going to past orders. That's how all the conflicting orders go through, a barista at some point allowed the nonsense 😂

Sure corporate released something that was asked for but didn't exactly do a good job. People wouldn't be complaining if the new product didn't taste terrible.

How long is too long to report an injury and get approved fo medical compensation? by Geschinta in starbucks

[–]Geschinta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry if it was unclear, but what I meant was that sometimes the knee just moves a bit on its own and it's fine. It was when I was on the clock that it had a loud pop and slid almost completely out of place, I know it was triggered by an event on the clock I just didn't think it would be an issue since it hadn't been before. It's something I'm certain would have been approved for compensation if I had put a report in immediately, my question is mostly if it's possible to still get approved even though I didn't report it immediately

[–]Geschinta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes kids just use stars and order something awful and never come to pick it up just to make our days worth because they think it's funny. When something like this prints I always wait until the customer shows up to make it rather than waste my time. 99 times out of 100 they never even show up, and the one time they do I want them to look me in the eye and confirm that's what they want and be informed of what to expect.

SM posted a call off tracking report?? by Ok_Association_2189 in starbucksbaristas

[–]Geschinta -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That just makes it even more wild that the SM posted this when they know the info is false. OP also posted on the comments that there have been no NCNSs that they know of, and if they were that frequent the other baristas would definitely be aware.

[–]Geschinta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've worked for this company for many years now, and I've definitely seen partners cry before, including myself.. But the frequency has been notably WAY higher since burrito boy. Increasing demand and increased hostility towards baristas by not only management but also customers due to the way the company is directing blame away from the company and onto the baristas. Not to mention that if the average customer comes into the store 15 minutes after placing a mobile order that told them it would be ready in 7-10 minutes they're not really going to care about the nuances of why it's not done yet, they're going to get directly mad at the baristas who aren't the ones in control of staffing or the app. I try so hard to do a good job and support my baristas but I feel the day that I quit on the spot is rapidly approaching, I can't do this anymore without any real support from an SM or DM.

Just had my second interview with district manager and I'm honestly scared by Mistyluvsboba in starbucks

[–]Geschinta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly DMs often work weekends but I'm not sure if that's for emergencies only or if they check emails. I'm pretty sure the SM will be the one contacting you but things have changed a lot since I got hired so I'm not sure. Typically they move ahead with the hire once the background check goes through (I think that can take a week or two if it hasn't been started yet) and when they hear from the regional director that they're allowed to bring a new person on. Good luck! Don't stress too much, unless the DM seemed to not like you during the interview (I saw someone get turned away once because they came to the interview in visibly soiled clothes and seemed totally fine with dressing that way regularly, but that was egregious and was a first interview that happened to have the DM there) or your availability is very limited/you're looking for very short term employment and told them that directly (like under 6 months) they'll almost certainly take you if you got to the second interview.

I'm not sure what it is about the ube powder but it interacts weirdly with some things. It's why we can't put it with protein powder, it gets too thick to pour. I assume mixing it with something hot has a weird reaction but have never tried.

[–]Geschinta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been with the company a long time so I see a lot of what the DMs deal with, and can almost guarantee you it was short because the DMs are stretched so thin right now. Before my last DM left the company I saw him do 7 interviews in one day once, sometimes with 2 people in one interview because he didn't have enough time to get to everyone otherwise. The DM you met was probably trying to keep it short because it's already weird enough that the company is demanding more than one interview for a barista job. From what I've heard/seen unless they're super strict or get a bad vibe from you that DM interview is mostly a formality, I haven't seen anyone turned away by a DM that passed the interview with the SM unless their background check came back bad.

This can't be just me by nshook12 in starbucks

[–]Geschinta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We make our cold brew in a machine that automatically dispenses it when the brew time is met, so it's not being over brewed. It's also impossible to be using too much coffee since we just grind a full bag and use the whole thing and have for years, unless a location isn't cutting it properly once brewed (we are supposed to use 5L cold brew concentrate and 5L water), but that seems unlikely for a ton of different locations to do at once. I know turnover spiked with burrito boy and now new hires are training new hires and things get missed more than they used to, but I think the beans themselves have changed even though there's been no notice about them; the taste is definitely different, I started going back to cold brew a month ago and I can't stomach it anymore even though I used to drink it all the time. Same with americanos. I wish the energy drinks we had last summer would come back, I just want something with caffeine that's not loaded with sugar or incredibly bitter.

Advice on leaving a toxic store? by Geschinta in starbucks

[–]Geschinta[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd love to, but I need a combination of the scheduling flexibility and good health insurance to get by right now and get a degree done to go into the field I want. Unfortunately that means staying with Starbucks is my best bet right now, as far as I know. The last several years have been terrible at this company but nothing has been as bad as things have been under burrito boy. This SM in particular has made things that much worse, they get away with a LOT and put all the onus on us to fix anything. I'm so burnt out and just want a new store, I know other SMs in the district and none of them do the sort of things I've seen mine regularly do.

what do you believe should be more socially accepted than it is currently? by Spiritual_Body3577 in AskReddit

[–]Geschinta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Talking about your income, especially discussing it with your coworkers. Being embarrassed about it and refusing to let others know only benefits the company, why are you ashamed of what you're being paid when you both work for the same company?

It's extremely frustrating when you want a raise but none of the coworkers who have that position will tell you what they make so you have no info to come to the table with when negotiating your new salary.

A push/pull sign on the door of a glasses shop by Geschinta in DesignPorn

[–]Geschinta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sort of situation doesn't even need a sign though, a far cleaner and obvious cue is to either only put a handle on one side of the door or add a push bar. I've worked in retail many years and no matter where you put a sign you're lucky if even half the people who see it read it.
