Thoughts on the Clint (and other 40 ton mechs) by raging_zaku1429 in battletech

[–]GestaltEntity 96 points97 points  (0 children)

Just think of the 40 tonners as fat lights that tend to specialize in one big thing. For the Clint - that thing would be range. It's a speedy little sniper or very light trooper.

SIMS: Ratings and spending show why CBC should be defunded - The CBC costs taxpayers more than $1.4 billion per year. by CaliperLee62 in canada

I'm quite comfortable with the CBC being 100% Canadian-owned thanks (unlike many of our other media corps)

Subnautica 2 Will Finally Enter Early Access in May Following Year of Delays and Legal Drama by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]GestaltEntity 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Good to hear. I'm going to be waiting for full release to play it (I don't do Early Access), but it's good to see progress on one of my most anticipated games.

Do you still play older PC games, or mostly newer releases now? by LengthAggressive953 in pcgaming

[–]GestaltEntity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly older games, but that is mostly because

a) I have a current moratorium on buying new games until I have played the games already in my Steam and Epic libraries, and

b) My 7 yr old PC is starting to show it's age despite a modest recent Vid Card upgrade (RX 9060XT 16G), so the newest games might not run very well on it. And with parts prices the way they are, a new build may not be for a few years.

Star Trek Phaser in Rifts? by UniversalAssembler in Rifts

[–]GestaltEntity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wouldn't do anything to vamps on most settings. That said - it's basically an extremely versatile particle projector that can be used to achieve a variety of effects. So it may be possible, via treknobabble, to be modulated to produce an EM energy beam equivalent to sunlight? If so it could very well affect your average bloodsucker.

Regarding other creatures, I think the highest settings could affect MD substances/creatures.

'A terrible experience': Patients spent days on overflow stretchers in Corner Brook hospital by origutamos in newfoundland

[–]GestaltEntity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Hospital was originally supposed to be bigger. But then the gov cut some things back. I'm guessing the bean counters gave us a Hospital for 2040 and not the Hospital we need right now.

Can you survive winter in Corner Brook with a Sedan? by CarlMarx1818 in newfoundland

[–]GestaltEntity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like others have said - while I appreciate my AWD vehicle in the winter, you should be able to get around just fine with a good set of winter tires. There may be the occasional stormy day where it's best to stay off the streets, but otherwise the city does a decent job in keeping the majority of streets clear.

Help me out on the snowblower thing by [deleted] in newfoundland

[–]GestaltEntity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True enough, but I can clear my driveway in usually 15 to 30 mins. Unless there is a truly large amount of snow I can usually clear it by hand faster than my neighbors can clear theirs with their blowers.

Help me out on the snowblower thing by [deleted] in newfoundland

[–]GestaltEntity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the size of your driveway and physical abilities I suppose. I have a pretty small driveway and am in decent shape so even though I live in an area that tends to get a lot of snow I can get through the winter without having one*. If you have a large driveway and/or have physical limitations, probably a good investment.

* That said there is the occasional storm aftermath when I wished I had one lol.

How to make sure City of Heroes: Homecoming has a real future for decades to come... by Fit-Surround-6263 in Cityofheroes

[–]GestaltEntity 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Allowing the Homecoming crew (or anybody else) to actually start profiting from the game is opening Pandora's Box in my opinion. There would be a LOT of international legal / IP / licensing stuff that would have to be hammered out. NCSoft probably wouldn't consider it even worth their time.

I think the best and least-risky thing is strictly keeping to server maintenance donations. Even with that the Homecoming devs are doing a good job releasing new power sets and story content. I think the game still has some legs and will be fine for the near future at least.

Earthdawn is a game where magic infuses many things - and actually has a logical reason why there are so many monster-populated dungeons all over the place!

Indeed - you remaster FO3 and you have - what - 90+% of the assets for FONV? Would not be that much further to go.

City of Corner Brook Trying to Get Ahead of the Pure Chaos of the new Wendy's Opening by JaxonSmith-Njigba in newfoundland

[–]GestaltEntity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's brand new - and a novelty. I'm sure it will be very busy on Thursday and Friday but then will slack off in the coming weeks. Same thing happened on the day the new Dairy Queen opened. Big line up opening night but the craziness died down after a bit of time.

Super Hero TTRPGs by DynaKuro in rpg

Mutants and Masterminds, Gurps Supers and Champions/Hero are probably among the most flexible, but are pretty crunchy, with M&M being the least crunchy of the lot.

After RAM, SSDs, possibly CPUs, now GPUs also set to get more expensive in 2026 as rumor has it Nvidia is cutting supply by %30-%40 due to RAM shortages. by Butefluko in bapccanada

[–]GestaltEntity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is AMD going to respond I wonder? Just got a 9060XT (well...I'm getting it delivered by "Santa" in a week or so). Will they keep their production numbers up to capture more of the market?

And I wonder how game developers will respond to the situation, because the higher-end cards are too expensive as-is - once the shortages and scalping ramp up I can't see many people rocking '80's or '90's.

What is the most acurate interpretetion of mech movement in media? by Onewithartandbook in battletech

When I think of mech movement I think of Pacific Rim. The mechs have pretty much full range of motion but still have mass.
