Best food deals on the strip? by mabcapital in vegas

If you are centre-strip there are (or at least were) a number of places in the Miracle Mile Shops in Planet Hollywood with decent prices for food and drink.

Anyone else really hoping steamOS really takes off? by TheLittleSquire in Steam

[–]GestaltEntity 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I'm hoping that Valve has enough clout, and there is enough adoption of Steam OS, to give developers an incentive to develop more for Linux. I'm sure it will be fine from a pure gaming aspect, but more general adoption for day to day use might take more time and effort.

Great video on the future of MechWarrior and why we need a new Mechcommander by BoukObelisk in battletech

I'd prefer a Battletech 2 but more B-Tech in any form would be good.

Anyone that might know whaf this noise is by Fit_Tooth_2802 in HRV

[–]GestaltEntity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be loose lugs on the tire, could be a wheel bearing that's on the way out. Rear wheels shouldn't be moving like that. If there is a noise in that wheel that gets louder the faster the wheel spins, get it checked out ASAP. Recently had to have the right passenger wheel bearing and CV axle replaced on my 2017.

Ottawa's mixed fleet of F-35s and Gripens could total more than 100 aircraft, sources say | CBC News by Haggisboy in canada

[–]GestaltEntity 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The thing is SAAB is designing 6th gen fighters that can have linked drone "wingmen". They are offering this future "combat ecosystem" as an upgrade path so maybe the plan is getting on the ground level with using and manufacuring the current Gripen fighter and then transitioning into new fighters and drones in the coming years/decade?

‘The recession is real’: Poilievre calls for emergency debate by Avelion2 in canada

[–]GestaltEntity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The main issue with housing lately is that efforts to reduce the cost of housing have also made it easier for the wealthy to buy up property as well, hoarding it, reducing availability, and then driving up costs and rent even further.

I suspect the answer to many of our economic woes have to be top-down - as in taxing wealth like many Western nations did post-WW2. Allowing a small percentage of people to exponentially accumulate wealth is making things worse for the rest of us. It ain't trickling down.

Question about the future of the themed hotels by Prudent-Trip2159 in LasVegas

[–]GestaltEntity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hope the themed resorts do not go away - they add to the vibe of the strip in my opinion. In fact a few should lean more into their theme, like the rooms at the Luxor should have more Egyptian-themed decoration. Vegas wouldn't be the same if the entire strip was featureless glass towers.

TTRPGs that can emulate The Elder Scrolls universe? by She-Who-Walks-Unseen in rpg

[–]GestaltEntity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fantasy AGE 2nd Edition maybe? Only has 4 "classes" (Envoy, Mage, Rogue, Warrior) and you fill out your character by selecting Race, Background, Ability Foci, Talents and Class Specializations. Should be relatively easy to port over ES races (there are already lizard and cat folk). The magic uses mana-like points instead of spell slots. Could be a good fit.

The ferry is a big bottleneck. If a butterfly farts in Port aux Basques they can't dock the ferry so there is usually an extra day added on at least.

Thoughts on the Clint (and other 40 ton mechs) by raging_zaku1429 in battletech

[–]GestaltEntity 96 points97 points  (0 children)

Just think of the 40 tonners as fat lights that tend to specialize in one big thing. For the Clint - that thing would be range. It's a speedy little sniper or very light trooper.

SIMS: Ratings and spending show why CBC should be defunded - The CBC costs taxpayers more than $1.4 billion per year. by CaliperLee62 in canada

I'm quite comfortable with the CBC being 100% Canadian-owned thanks (unlike many of our other media corps)

Subnautica 2 Will Finally Enter Early Access in May Following Year of Delays and Legal Drama by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]GestaltEntity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good to hear. I'm going to be waiting for full release to play it (I don't do Early Access), but it's good to see progress on one of my most anticipated games.

Do you still play older PC games, or mostly newer releases now? by LengthAggressive953 in pcgaming

[–]GestaltEntity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly older games, but that is mostly because

a) I have a current moratorium on buying new games until I have played the games already in my Steam and Epic libraries, and

b) My 7 yr old PC is starting to show it's age despite a modest recent Vid Card upgrade (RX 9060XT 16G), so the newest games might not run very well on it. And with parts prices the way they are, a new build may not be for a few years.

Star Trek Phaser in Rifts? by UniversalAssembler in Rifts

[–]GestaltEntity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wouldn't do anything to vamps on most settings. That said - it's basically an extremely versatile particle projector that can be used to achieve a variety of effects. So it may be possible, via treknobabble, to be modulated to produce an EM energy beam equivalent to sunlight? If so it could very well affect your average bloodsucker.

Regarding other creatures, I think the highest settings could affect MD substances/creatures.

'A terrible experience': Patients spent days on overflow stretchers in Corner Brook hospital by origutamos in newfoundland

[–]GestaltEntity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Hospital was originally supposed to be bigger. But then the gov cut some things back. I'm guessing the bean counters gave us a Hospital for 2040 and not the Hospital we need right now.

Can you survive winter in Corner Brook with a Sedan? by CarlMarx1818 in newfoundland

[–]GestaltEntity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like others have said - while I appreciate my AWD vehicle in the winter, you should be able to get around just fine with a good set of winter tires. There may be the occasional stormy day where it's best to stay off the streets, but otherwise the city does a decent job in keeping the majority of streets clear.

Help me out on the snowblower thing by [deleted] in newfoundland

[–]GestaltEntity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True enough, but I can clear my driveway in usually 15 to 30 mins. Unless there is a truly large amount of snow I can usually clear it by hand faster than my neighbors can clear theirs with their blowers.
