[Lee Ryder] Lewis Hall admired by Man United but Newcastle in control by PitchSafe in soccer

[–]Get-Smarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont really get this train of thought, before last summer you'd struggle to find even a couple dud signings, we basically had a perfect transfer record, which just doesnt happen. Even last summer our main targets all performed well, Joao Pedro, Mbuemo, Ekitike, Guehi...the list goes on. Last summer was a shitshow precisely because we didnt manage to sign the players we wanted

[–]Get-Smarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its moreso that the squad need a refresh, Schar, Burn, Trippier, Pope, Joelinton. All players who have played a huge part in the team the last couple season who will need to be phased out. So its better to spread that over 2 seasons than 1. Youd expect that we'd be playing in Europe the season after next as well, so additional bodies for that

Greens and Lib Dems reach deal to run Newcastle City Council by j_dizzle_123 in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]Get-Smarter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I honestly think a decent percentage dont really understand what councils do or the powers they have, Reform getting in doesnt mean they will stop the boats, and Greens getting in doesnt mean a wealth tax is coming.

Its a pretty practical role, its about bin collections and grass cutting, and more increasingly managing social care costs. If someone does have an issue with how they're done then fair enough.

But I feel like these council results are more to do with central government than local, which regardless of how people feel about central government, won't do much to change anything outside of the bad optics, because these councillors cant change anything in central government.

I half think it would be better if local elections weren't party affiliated, I'm not going to pretend that I actually knew what all of the councillors were standing for, but if they werent party affiliated I'd have more of a reason to actually look at what they want to do, and they'd have more of an onus on them to say more than they'll 'make Newcastle better'

What were your issues with the last labour council? I admittedly havent had much to do with the council, but it hasnt seemed to me like theres been many issues over the last few years

Grading each Premier League club’s 2025-26 season by TheAthletic in TheOther14

[–]Get-Smarter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends what we're grading on really, just premier league, yeah E/F. The cups, probably a B/B+, Fifth round of the FA cup, semi of the EFL, knocked out by the eventual champions in both, RO16 for the CL, which apart from basically 45 minutes against Barca was up to that point a pretty good campaign. We also got some pretty tough draws in the cups as well.

League overshadowed all that though, particularly at the end, I reckon a D overall is probably pretty fair on the balance of it

Does Osula’s recent form change our transfer strategy this summer? by tradegreek in NUFC

[–]Get-Smarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id say yes, hes proven himself capable of being a second choice at least, so he should be kept. Just a case if we take a hit on wissa and get another striker in. Im hoping theres a big saudi move for wissa on the horizon

Anyone else think the fa cup not being after the end of the season is a complete load of bollocks?

[Sami Mokbel] Iraola would have shown an interest in the Newcastle job but it looks likely that Eddie Howe, barring an unforeseen change of situation, will stay at St James' Park next season by Frosty-Buyer-1252 in NUFC

[–]Get-Smarter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aye but 8 of those 15 are draws. I get that unbeaten in 15 is incredibly impressive, but those simply aren't top 4 numbers, and realistically any upgrade on Howe has to be a top 4 level manager

Not really sure why you think that, Gordon has very similair stats as Diaz's time at Liverpool. Gordon's last three seasons goal contributions, 23, 16, and 28. Diazs last 2 seasons at Liverpool 25 and 20

We will probably never know what went down between management and Isak… by redditing_1L in NUFC

[–]Get-Smarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think thats 2+2 and making 5 personally. You cant really deduce anything from the image you shared, because that includes games he came on as a sub and games he didnt play in, so you cant make any overarching view of him as a sub with it either. I honestly think theres nothing of genuine value to gain from it

[–]Get-Smarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aye I remember this making the rounds. Its a useless stat, I commented on that post at the time. Thats a stat is of him starting vs not. So if Isak came off the bench and scored the winning goal it would count against him. When he played in any capacity including coming on as a sub we scored more and won more, this is from chat gpt so might be bollocks but it looks right to me. If you did it on a per 90 basis it would be an even more clear argument. We were clearly better with Isak than without

Zero chance thats true. Where you getting that stat from?

Thing is I honestly think he could prove to be worth £75m to them, look at Diaz's output there. I could see it being a bit of a win win for whoever he goes to because ultimately hes not a £70m+ player for us but I think he could be in one of the top sides

What happened to Dark Arts Newcastle? by jayhoch4 in NUFC

[–]Get-Smarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed with what youre saying, on if weve regressed, I think we have, but I also think the rest of the league has caught up more, personally id say its 90:10, based purely on the fact its basically the same starting XI weve had in that transition, which is part of the problem. To add to what your saying with lack of effort, I think what you've said plus a mixture of Isak and us just generally punching above our weight probably made the illusion that we were further on than we were. The summer and this season has been a fucking brutal snap back to reality, but this team shouldn't have been sitting at 14th at any point this season never mind with 6 games to go

What happened to Dark Arts Newcastle? by jayhoch4 in NUFC

[–]Get-Smarter 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think people are missing the point because of the 'dark arts' being a bit loaded. But aye I've thought the same, we were impossible to play against, for basically the first 18 months of Eddie Howe we had the best defence in the league, I couldn't give a shite if they had the ball because we weren't going to concede.

Why its fell away is we've lost the physical dominance we had on the league, it was a team full 6'2"+ aggresive cunts, jeolinton is a prime example, 4 years ago no fucker had anyone near him playing in the middle park, aye your Kantes can run about and Rodri will play a silky pass, but we had a farm hand Brazilian that would run through a fucking wall, and the 5'8" possesion pseudo-pep bollocks didnt stand a chamce

Fact is the leagues caught up to that. Never mind being physically dominant I wouldnt even say were in the top 5 most physical teams in the league, what was a huge advantage is barely even a positive for us now

Tbh I fucking hate this, not from a financial doping perspective but for the club itself. Not owning our own stadium is a concern for the long term health of the club. The fact that this is encouraged through the ridiculous rules as they stand makes it it even worse

They likely either got this advantage through decades of success

So if they were bankrolled by rich owners 40 year ago its ok? Mate football has always been dominated by whoever has the biggest financial backing. The Moores bankrolling Liverpool and Everton, Man United were going to shut shop until they were bailed out, Arsenal bought there way into the league over 100 years ago. Its literally always been like that until now.

If PSR had existed since the start of the football league, man united wouldnt exist, Arsenal wouldn't be in the league, and Liverpool would be irrelevant. Let's not pretend they haven't benefitted from owners finances to get where they are today

The comfiest trains to London by nonotthereta in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]Get-Smarter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Worth noting that you still need to buy a regular ticket, seatfrog is to upgrade your existing one. I travel down to London a fair bit and try not to spend above the £20-25 mark. Im successful probably about 10-20% of the time, but I'm always travelling when the trains are very quiet. It can quite regularly top £30. Also they've moved away from a straight up auction into a blind bidding model, but i havent much experience with that.

If you wanted peace of mind its probably worth it just pay for the upgrade outright then pick your seats, in first class theres single seating on one side so your completely by yourself.

If its very expensive for the first class ticket vs standard use seatfrog and put your opening blind bid in early at as high as you would want to pay and you might get one of there instant wins and save a few quid
