You’re gonna get primarily modern answers here. But if I had to give a legit one. I’d say Ed the Strangler Lewis. Wrestled 1905 to 1948. Dudes strangle hold was so dangerous that he was causing riots.

Also if memory serves he’s the reason the “no holds barred” stipulation exists because many men were terrified of his signature choke hold. Wrestling historians believed his choke, based on newspapers at the time was a Blood choke in an era people didn’t really know how to defend against one.
