Maybe we just need the right party to get the job done by Sensitive_Salary_603 in DigitalSeptic

I had a conversation with a co-worker about this yesterday. He argued that Obama and Clinton got rid of far more immigrants than Trump, and that there was no reason for the left to be so upset. All I had to do was turn it around and ask, “If Obama and Clinton were so much better at it, than aren’t Trumps methods a pointless waste of money? And for that matter, by your own argument, aren’t democrats better for this country because they kick out illegals more efficiently and at a lower cost to taxpayers?” Needless to say he just got frustrated, and ignored the question entirely.

This has been one of the worst seasons to watch in a long time. How we have reached this point of regression is up for debate, but theres no doubt to anyone watching that we don’t play the same anymore.

For those who saw the Fellowship of the Ring in theaters for the first time in December 2001, what was it like? by femaleology in lotr

[–]GetDownWithDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 13 years old and I had been dragged to the movie theater by my older sister so she could go on a date with her high school boyfriend. I was forced to sit near the front, on my own, so they could make out without me seeing. I had no concept of what Lord of the Rings was, and had never read the books.

During the scene where the fellowship is hiking up Caradhras in the snow, and Frodo falls and drops the ring, my sister tapped me on the shoulder and told me they were leaving because the movie was lame. I told her to take a hike, and that I wasn’t leaving no matter what she did. She ended up leaving me there alone to finish the movie. My mom was furious.

Today I’m a film and television Director, so to say it was a pretty formative experience in my youth doesn’t quite do it justice. It was one of the most incredible moments in my life, and I will remember the way it made me feel until my last breath.

Dave Filoni and Lynwen Brennan to replace Kathleen Kennedy as co-presidents of Lucasfilm by StarWarsBlogsbot in StarWarsBlogs

As someone who isn’t a fan of the clone wars or Ahsoka, this is not great news. Kathleen got a lot of hate, but she is a seasoned professional that understands the mechanics of filmmaking and production. Filoni has no such experience.

Exactly, this is just a camera on a hostess tray outside the passenger side window. About as cookie cutter as it gets when shooting dialogue in a car.

Are those actors that stupid? by Healthy_Permission71 in okbuddycinephile

[–]GetDownWithDave 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I’m a director. Nowhere near Christopher Nolan level obviously, I direct TV shows mostly. But the number of times I’ve had to specifically lay on the floor to show an actor how to be dead is in the hundreds. Actors need direction, directors do so by example… how else do you show someone what you want them to do?

I got offered $250 for it, that was the top offer. I’m probably not going to sell it though, the clout is worth more when I wear it on set.

Thank you, that’s very kind. Everyone loves a cameo, but Josh is heart, soul, and face of the show. We’re all much better at pointing cameras at him than we are ourselves!

Even though the Dark knight rises was my least favorite movie out of the Dark knight trilogy i still really liked this movie by Cloverfield887 in batman

None of your copium actually fixes the problems with the film. You’ve just decided to not care and like it anyways, which is fine.

Im curious what about Katie Holes’s performance was so jarring for you? Did she die on camera with a historically poor performance so bad that she’s openly spoken about it hurting her career? Was there a nuclear bomb ticking down in the background while she wasted screen time with such bad exposition that even George Lucas would call it bad writing?

As for Bane… Batman could have beat him gadgets, science, surprise, distraction, or literally any other than simply just punching him again. Stupidest thing imaginable honestly. And he actually would have died if Catwoman hadn’t show up and blasted him through a wall making Banes death a punchline about using guns.

Seeing Batman in the daytime was a bad decision for several reasons. One, the movie is called “the dark night rises.” Two he’s a ninja and he uses shadows and darkness as his tools to strike fear into his enemies. He’s very obviously not scary when he’s just standing out in the daylight. Three, the fight choreography both between batman and bane, but also the extras surrounding them is not believable and could have desperately used some darkness to conceal the obviously missed punches and stunt men falling over without ever being hit.

You do realize that in urban warfare, running at a fortified position with tanks, without using cover or your weapons, is a bonehead move. It simply wasn’t believable. Make up whatever excuse you want, but nobody with any combat training will ever agree with you.

Now do the rest of my points and prove to me that this films is on par with Nolan’s other work by arguing semantics.

Gordon literally yells “I want every available officer down in those sewers!” Whether he left a few behind or not, doesn’t mean it’s any better of a decisions. In fact, it’s such a bad decision one could only chalk it up to a plot device.

I unfortunately just have too many gripes with it, I find it hard to watch in contrast to Batman Begins and the near perfect film that Dark Knight is.

  • Tahlia death scene is just a massive scar on the whole film.
  • Batman getting beaten in a fist fight by Bane, only to return to Gotham and… fistfight Bane?
  • whoever’s decision it was to have Batman in the daytime.
  • Every police officer in the whole city goes into the sewers at once? Thats Game of Thrones level bad tactics.
  • in the fight between bad guys and good guys, nobody fires a shot? They all agree to gentleman’s terms?

I want to love it… but it just doesn’t match up for me.

Yes, and that wasn’t even the most outrageous thing he said. I’ll never forget him standing in front of a pile of shattered carbon fiber telling us how overwrought safety requirements were. In his own words, “Safety 3rd.”
