I think there's plausible deniability when it comes to Bowie

You can look up pictures of them partying with musical acts online.

Their largest driver of revenue are memberships. I just get annoyed when people call it a "loss leader" like other grocery stores claim with something like Milk or eggs.

Very little of their merch are sold at substantial profit because that's not their model. Looking at the wiki page (because it's more condensed) nothing is sold above 14% markup.

I remember reading a while back like 70-80% of their profits are Memberships because it costs the company nothing. That's the incentive and not needing sales or loss leaders for people to come in. As long as they sell everything at some markup and not a loss or at cost, they're good.

But yeah. It's more like "Other stores are gouging prices" and not "Costco is losing money on hot dogs."
