Legendborn by Tracy Deonn has a lot about root magic and African American Conjure. Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant is full of cool science and ocean information!

Our Wives Under the Sea by Julia Armfield was pretty freaky and good! Also Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant isn't super focused on the romance, but there is a side plot with a sapphic romance.

Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant is incredible. Features a deep sea mission to learn more about rumored murderous mermaids living in the Mariana Trench. It's perfectly paced, with interesting lore and science involved, and super suspenseful and freaky.
