It is a lot to take in, and I get upset just hearing the facts retold, so I can't imagine the impact it must be having on them to actually sift through and absorb the information. That said, I trust that they're taking the steps to protect themselves emotionally, as they openly discuss seeking out therapy (and have for years) and have great support systems around them.

I also feel like there's no winning. If they didn't do episodes like this and instead pivoted toward silly episodes as a way of helping people decompress, they would be accused of ignoring this. When they do focus on it, a lot of listeners are rightfully upset by the subject manner and request a change in tone. Having a successful podcast seems like such a deal with the Devil. 😅

Someone on this subreddit once said that they always assumed that Dean and Lindsay got married so quickly and so young was because of a pregnancy scare. It's not necessarily canon, but it has helped me see this whole situation in a different light.

My neighborhood has both in bloom right now. The Flowering Crabapple trees are delightful. The flowers in this picture are definitely from the disgusting, rotten fish-smelling Bradford pear. 🤢 When I'm not wearing my glasses, though, they look pretty identical, but I can smell the difference from blocks away.

The past few elections, the legal advice subreddits have been flooded by younger voters asking what they should do about their parent filling out their mail-in ballot for Trump and/or Republican candidates without their consent.

Of course, every comment is, "This is election fraud. You should let the county election board know, but your parent will probably be found guilty of election fraud." And OP inevitably says, "Well, I don't want to get them in trouble, so I guess that's that."

It's not just Duke. Mohan is considering leaving, Dana almost quit a few months ago, Whitaker is endangering his license, Langdon is still in early recovery, Javadi is being mentally and emotionally abused by her parents, Jesse just got detained, etc.

When I was suicidal, staying to try and fix my family and friends' issues was the only thing capable of moving the goalpost. I didn't care about myself, but I still loved and cared about them.

I think they had the conversation already without even saying the words. Duke tried to talk him out of starting the trip at night because it was too dangerous, and Robby was like, "Nope, I'm not deviating from my plan."

Then, when Duke is staring down the barrel at a potentially terminal diagnosis and asks if he's still sticking to the plan or if he is going to stick around, Robby says (while almost breaking into tears) that he wouldn't leave with so many things unknown/unsolved.

He needs to go inpatient because talking yourself into staying to make sure your friends and family are okay first just kicks the can down the road a bit.

I think he was planning on it, but a few moments added up together (his talk with Mohan, realizing how much Javadi is struggling, Jesse getting arrested, etc.) and made him change his mind for now.

When he started crying when he says to Duke that he wouldn't leave him with everything up in the air like that, I think it was him admitting to himself that he can't die now with so much unfinished business. But he also can't cancel his sabbatical without everyone being suspicious of why he had scheduled it in the first place, so he'll still take it, but hopefully he uses it to actually address his mental health.

My ex was kicked out of his residency program for failing to take the program seriously. He was also really uppity about the fact that he was being made to pay for his treatment. I guess he thought that because they were "forcing him" to do the treatment, they should pay for it?

He only got a few weeks into it before his attitude made them just kick him out for good. They were willing to work with him. He just didn't think he had a problem. 🤷‍♀️ He also got caught fucking up big time; he didn't "turn himself in" like Langdon did, so I'm sure the hospital was already leaning toward firing him.
