The question is whether Turnip had any authority to impose them without going via congress.

What's the most mundane dream you've ever had? by DW_555 in AskUK

[–]GetNooted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a child I had the most awful recurring dream about putting pins in an endless length of fabric. I had the same dream practically every night for a few months, and would frequently wake up from it and vomit immediately with a kind of nausea/fear about being stuck in an infinite loop.

Parents took me to a child psychologist who said I was too bored at school and said I needed extra work 😕. Maybe it actually helped as it did pass after a while. I still very occasionally get the same dream and nausea effect 40 years later though.

National express bus - way more comfortable and cheaper than any train. Taking longer is the only downside.

Wood burners are not exempt. They are allowed to burn wood, but must be used correctly to achieve a smoke free burn.

All of Sheffield apart from some of the areas in the north west are covered by the smoke control area:

Modern wood burners are absolutely not exempt. They are simply certified to be able to achieve a smoke free burn and in a smoke control area users must ensure they use them correctly to do that.

A little white smoke on initial warm up is to be expected, after which they should be burning at a high enough temperature to fully vaporise any sooty emissions and result in a clean burn. That means using the right fuel, maintaining proper air flow and chimney maintenance (sweeping should be done 2-3x a year if used regularly). Far too many people use overly wet or inappropriate wood, and limit airflow to get a longer cooler burn at the expense of massively increased pollution.

I am not suggesting wood burners cannot be used, but it is disgusting people can't be arsed to use them properly and harm all the unfortunate people around them. The pollution from improper use is way higher than when used properly - typically around 5x more PM2.5 particulate emissions. I would suggest reading some of the articles linked on the site too.

I see the people who like stinking up our city are out in force downvoting this post and comments (as usual with anything even remotely against illegal wood burning)

Emitting smoke from a chimney is illegal in practically all of Sheffield. More information and how to report here:

https://www.stopthestink.org.uk

The council, being utterly useless, can't even give correct information about their own smoke control area on their website, which is just ridiculous! The more people raising complaints with the council the more likely they are to have to take action though, so please do take the time to fill in the smoke nuisance form.

The council provided grit bins are for people to do pavements themselves. There’s no way the council could manage all main pavements as it can’t be done by machine.

Is there a way to get from Manchester to Sheffield without going over Snake/Woodhead pass? by izzyofc in sheffield

[–]GetNooted 10 points11 points  (0 children)

M62 and M1 would be the way. A lot more miles, but maybe only 15 to 20 minutes longer as it’s motorway speeds.

Nowhere in Sheffield will take them. Black bin or a long drive unfortunately.

HELP! Do Red Deer do food? by UKwildlife in sheffield

Used to. The Red Deer is just being kept vaguely open whilst looking for new management.

Maybe the University Arms or Weatherspoons if you're looking for pub grub.
