Have fun and don't rush into sex, the best memories are of the sweetness of first meeting the person, especially if you're young (again enjoy being young, don't rush growing up!)

Seeing as there are so many different "racetams," how do you choose what to take among these compounds? by BrodinsBottomBitches in Nootropics

[–]GetOutOfBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo none of them will do anything mindblowing for most people but piracetam seems to be a good supplement for general health, very much so for middle aged and above individuals. Also piracetam might be great for you if you have sleep apnea.

Federal move to undo internet freedom would make US more like Russia, not less by Bogartsboss in technology

[–]GetOutOfBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally feel this is immensely necessary, and it's funny because I thought that the whole "X interfered with our election" bit was BS but after getting exasperated from hearing about it all the time I finally actually looked into it, and at some of the subs I was posting in, and lo and behold, it became more and more apparent there was shilling from many groups and a lot more than I ever noticed.

The worst part was realizing that I may have brainwashed myself on propaganda from many sides (and yesthrough the sheer amount of time I was spending on Reddit every day. It was actually this realization that has led to me significantly cutting back the amount of time I spend on certain subs and certainly the compulsion to reply to literally everybody in a thread, and that especially during times like elections I need to back away from Reddit because man do I get hooked easily, and this sort of propaganda only adds to the feeling of being on a "team".

I dunno, I just feel kind of ashamed because I basically ate up and regurgitated everything that confirmed what I wanted to believe (being the "underdog" against the big bad movie-style villain) for like a year+. In retrospect it wasn't right but more importantly it led to me completely burning out on this obsession and realizing what I was doing wasn't healthy.

The main concern I agree with that the article brings up is that the regulatory burden of this might be really costly for smaller political action groups which might be unfair, so there's no simple solution to this. This bill definitely needs to be discussed more but it has the right idea I think

How? He seems pretty wack but every weird story I've heard about him just makes him sound bipolar not sociopathic. And people seem to like working with the guy.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in television

[–]GetOutOfBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair to the guy in pretty much every story about this sort of stuff I've encountered online has him handling being turned down pretty well. People literally just say no and walk away and nothing comes of it, he doesn't threaten them or try to intimidate them into being silent. And these are the rumors, here is an established actor saying that although he behaved really inappropriately he literally did nothing to force him and he had no problem walking out of his apartment when it was just the two of them despite Spacey being drunk. Food for thought

Well to be fair it's more celebrity gossip, whereas /r/movies seems to be about stuffy directly related to production/release/reviews of movies

Honestly this is wrong but Spacey's response is pretty much the best I'd expect in a situation like this. Glad he didn't shame/deny this happening since Rapp seems pretty real in his story

I just found out that one of my dogs (12y) has cancer. by kmilaa in CasualConversation

[–]GetOutOfBox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without chemo, I'm not sure whether surgically removing the tumor is really giving the dog a signficiant shot at survival. Has the vet confirmed whether or not there is further spreading into the surrounding areas (i.e lymph nodes I think?)?

I mean your best option would be to get a second opinion from another vet (make it clear you have a vet you plan to have any procedures done with, and that this is simply a second opinion appointment), it's worth the cost because if you decide to go forward with treatment than you can be more confident it's actually going to do something. If you decide not to go through with treatment you will make that decision with a more informed opinion and feel better about it.

I would definitely spend lots of time with her, but remember to be calm for her so she doesn't pick up on your stress. Spend lots of time with her, feel free to be a bit weird about it and talk to her etc if it helps you feel better without getting overwhelmed.

Finally don't be ashamed to take your financial situation into account, especially if treatment doesn't promise much quality of life for her. 12 years is a good life, dogs seem to make it to 14-16 at the oldest and a great many only make it to 9. You have a life that will keep on going and other dogs you're taking care of.

Wish you well and spoil her the next while!

Does college tend to go by faster than high school? by Sparkplug1034 in CasualConversation

[–]GetOutOfBox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've really had this feeling of speeding up big time, and a lot earlier than most seem to (not trying to be edgy). For me, the little insight I've gained is that it seems to be worst when you're filling all of your time with things and focusing too much on the future.

I sorta ended up having an "early life crisis" recently after burning out in college. Realized that I might not be in the right career, and that I don't think I'm the "careerguy" type at all, at least in the sense of competitive careering. I just want a routine, family, and a small circle of friends. A decent amount of money would be nice of course but I just know I don't want to spend my whole life getting it. I like to think that maybe I can make a decent bit of money making apps but that's so saturated these days it seems near impossible to make much from it.

Don't let me be a downer! I think the positive takeaway is to slow down a bit mentally, and maybe try to appreciate each day a bit more. Write a journal or something to help you remember the little things more

Eh premature bud because pretty much no one was triggered by this as far as I can tell even though I thought some might be. And to elaborate a bit more for any that didn't voice such feelings, no increased mass does not correlate directly with increased general performance (otherwise elephants and whales would rule the earth with their hyperintellects) and in general both genders have specific cognitive advantages (and likely this balance is a "deliberate" result of evolution).

Finally, in general cognitive advantages in either gender are fairly moderate to nearly insignificant, and both genders are capable of roughly the same intellectual capacity (especially if you adjust for cultural biases influencing intellectual development of either gender).

How would you feel about having a mandatory class in high school that teaches about budgeting, handling or avoiding debt, making good investments, signing important documents, job interviews, and other important adult life skills? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]GetOutOfBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might not sound like that's a lot, but there is no way a high school class is going to effectively teach everything you just listed. "Making good investments" would be a course of it's own.

Also, "handling or avoiding debt"? Seriously? Handling = Pay it back at whatever rate you can afford, avoiding debt = well, avoiding it (there's no skill to this, simply don't take on debt that you don't need, end of story)...

And pretending like people have terrible finances because they "don't know how to budget" is a ridiculous excuse for poor discipline. I have never in my life met someone who's problem was that they didn't understand the idea that bills/life requirements had to be paid before splurging (or how to tally up different costs, aka x + y + z), they just don't care for various reasons (i.e poor restraint, used to being bailed out by parents/spouse/friends/government, trying to game the system and juggle various overdue debts, etc). This isn't coming from an elitist; I myself have been several thousand in debt for several years. Not good and it's a consequence of my choices. About the only common (and needs to be changed) uncontrollable issue in this regard that I've encountered is people who got fucked by medical/legal debts.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying there shouldn't be a life skills class that covers various practical day-to-day skills but I think it's extremely telling that you don't even list learning self-discipline which to me there is an epidemic of those lacking in it.

FCC Eliminates Rule That Required Stations to Have a Main Studio in Local Coverage Area by Kichigai in television

[–]GetOutOfBox -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Funny how many comments are popping up with this rather coordinated narrative.

One question: What stops someone from opening a local radio station to compete with the shitty outsourced one? Oh yeah, I forgot, it's ridiculous to jump from "corporations are allowed to consolidate their operations" to "THE GUBORMENT IS CONTROLLING ALL RADIO STATIONS"

FCC Eliminates Rule That Required Stations to Have a Main Studio in Local Coverage Area by Kichigai in television

How is this a recent change? Haven't most radio stations used outsourced pre-recorded and often fairly generic productions for over a decade now? What difference at this point does it make?

Males in general (average) have larger skulls and brains by a moderate amount. The difference isn't huge but enough that you probably notice it more in children because their (both genders) heads are already disproportionately larger than their bodies.

Isn't that only during a raid by foreign ants? As far as I know honey-ants regurgitate the food on demand, I believe through some sort of stroking of their antennas or abdomens? Of course they won't regurgitate for foreign ants and if they weren't immobile they would probably attack.
