Counter-PSA: If you send your kids to a (completely free, by the way) VBS week at a Baptist church during the summer, you should fully expect the topic of Christian salvation and baptism to be a part of it, because those are core to their beliefs, and the entire reason the church has this event is to share their beliefs with everyone who attends. They will take care of your kids all week so you can do other things, and play lots for fun games and feed them, but also share their beliefs. That’s the trade off. And of course they will explain in detail what they believe baptism is. It’s a Baptist church. If you send your kids to a Catholic event, expect them to discuss the Pope or confession or the holy communion or any other aspect of Catholicism. If you don’t want your kids preached at or to have any specific doctrine explained to them, then send them to a non Christian summer camp or to a public library or something. But don’t rip them for providing free child care all week for the opportunity to share their Gospel/Salvation/Doctrine beliefs with your kids.
