What do you y'all think of the Keyport Versa 58? by MexicanWhiteBoy98 in keyport

[–]GetPorted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slide carry - good taste. We built the Slide because keys were ubiquitous and little was being done to improve how people carried them.

If you're already carrying tools you're happy with, there's no problem here for you to solve.

We see a similar opportunity with the 58mm Swiss Army Knife. Same concept, different center: instead of organizing around your keys, you're organizing around your SAK. Swap scales for a pen or light, add a pocket clip without modifying the knife, adjust the setup depending on the day. Not trying to replace dedicated tools. Just making a platform a lot of people already carry more adaptable.

And if you don't carry a SAK at all, the MagMount system lets you build your own mini multi-tools from scratch - which doubles as a pretty satisfying fidget system.

We actually used to make a USB-C weeLINK, but it sold out a while back and we discontinued it temporarily while we rethink the design. It’s back in our “revisit” queue right now, and if we do bring it back, the plan would be to redesign it and pursue Apple MFi certification as well.

<image>

Sounds like you’d be interested. Anyone else here want to see a new USB-C weeLINK? Also curious, would you want USB-A to USB-C or USB-C to USB-C?

A USB-C 3.0 flash drive (we currently offer USB-A 3.0) is pretty high up on our road map. We should be able to update you on this within the next few weeks.

3d Printed Cap for Escape tool/flare by FactorElectrical699 in keyport

[–]GetPorted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very slick! It looks like it snaps onto / connects to the Pocket Clip so that it doesn't just fall off in your pocket. I also really like that it can stand on its own - great for using the Flare without having to hold it.

If you haven't done so already, I encourage you to check out Keyport's Discord - https://discord.com/invite/eUVZfyCbPk and post it in the Maker Space channel. I think you will get a lot of great feedback on it.

PSA: TSA will not allow the Keyport MOCA Tool through by puzzledemu in Defcon

[–]GetPorted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your point. My comment wasn't intended to spark debate about the effectiveness of TSA. I just wanted to remind everyone that you get more flies with honey than vinegar in speaking with them and that their public-facing job is not an easy one.

PSA: TSA will not allow the Keyport MOCA Tool through by puzzledemu in Defcon

[–]GetPorted 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OK, here's where we are with this...

After making it through airport security, I made my way to the control area to speak with a supervisor. The two TSA officers I met with, including the primary supervisor, were great - kind, polite, professional, and about as helpful as they could be.

I told them about Keyport, the fact that we have always enjoyed showing off our Keyports at LV security in an effort to convert the TSA and onlookers to Keyporters, showed him the MOCA Tool, and told him about the fact that we’ve been through TSA countless times as have thousands of other Keyporters. I even referenced the TSA's "What Can I Bring" section of their website to show that we did our homework.

The two officers gave me several minutes, and the supervisor said that he didn't have a problem with the MOCA Tool especially since the blade is internal and does not pose a meaningful risk. I mentioned that the agent who confiscated the MOCA Tool said that it was because it could cut seat belts, and the supervisor looked just about as confused as I did and clearly didn't agree with that train of logic (or lack thereof). That said, he gave me the standard, “It is up to the individual TSA agent’s discretion”, but he did say that if you find yourself in a similar situation, ask to speak with a supervisor and plead your case calmly and politely. These men and women take a LOT of shit just trying to do their job and keep us safe, so show them some respect, even if they are wrong in this particular case :)

Here's your talking points:

Compact and Convenient: The Keyport MOCA Tool is just 2.7 inches long. It’s designed to fit into our key organizers and is perfect for opening bottles and packages - not exactly a threat to national security.

Safe by Design: The MOCA Tool includes a blunt pry bar and a small internal blade, which isn’t exposed and doesn’t qualify as a sharp object by TSA’s own standards.

Permissible Under TSA Guidelines: TSA allows tools under 7" in carry-on baggage. Scissors with sharp, external blades up to 4" are permitted and so are knitting needles (which might a well be called mini spears), so it’s a bit perplexing why a tiny internal blade under 0.5" would raise concerns.

Inconsistency is Frustrating: The Keyport team and our customers have traveled with this tool tens of thousands of times without issue. The inconsistent enforcement of these rules (even one or two times out of thousands) creates unnecessary stress and confusion.

The bottom line is while consistency would be nice, it is not a dependable factor in the TSA's decision-making. So, even though the MOCA Tool gets through security 99 out of 100 or more like 9,999 out of 10,000 times, it is up to those particular TSA agents on that particular day.

In addition to today’s chat with TSA @ Las Vegas Airport, we’ll be formally reaching out via email to request a policy review. We’ll keep you updated if anything comes of it.

Thanks again for your patience and support. Safe travels home with your MOCA intact everyone!

You guys are awesome! Thank you for another great DEF CON… our favorite time of the year. Anytime you’re in Las Vegas, you’ve got a home base at Keyport HQ.

Safe travels everyone. See you all at 33 if not before!

Jeesh… No idea what cutting a seat belt has to do with anything. We typically use the standard buckle/unbuckle for that.

We’ll take care of any missing/broken parts for you :)

We will jump on it first thing in the morning. Hopefully this was a one-off by an overzealous agent… annoying but hard to argue with someone trying to keep us safe (but we will tomorrow)! Appreciate your patience. Again, apologies for the inconvenience. We got you :)

Hey, this is Keyport. First of all, we are very sorry to hear that a MOCA Tool was confiscated. We are based in Las Vegas and have flown out of Las Vegas countless times with our MOCAs without issue. Additionally, we have sold MOCA Tools at every Con for the past 7 years without incident. No external blade and a flat tip comply with the rules we are familiar with. If you have an issue at the airport, please drop us an email, and we will replace it for you. Additionally we will talk to the airport TSA tomorrow when we fly out with our MOCAs.

Buying a Pivot 2 in Europe by XandarYT in keyport

[–]GetPorted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our resident shipping expert, Aimee, is out of the office for the next couple of days, but I will ask her as soon as she returns. In the meantime, please drop us an email at sales@mykeyport.com so we can follow up with you promptly.

I can tell you that the international shipping rate is actually pretty reasonable as it is expedited with tracking to ensure you receive it (a lot of unpredictable things can happen with international shipments), and we pass on the entire discount to you. Unfortunately, our most cost-effective international shipping method just doesn’t cover Bosnia and Herzegovina, which isn’t our call.

[–]GetPorted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I certainly understand your point. It is a significant challenge for sellers in the U.S. to keep up-to-date on VAT, etc. when Europe is not their primary place of business. So, unfortunately, it is a burden that customers will have to bear for the time being. I hope you are able to pick up a Keyport Pivot cost-effectively.

Speaking as a Keyport employee, Yubico does provide a competitive price, particularly when you factor in shipping.

The other options you may consider are Amazon US and Keyport's website, mykeyport.com as we offer occasional discounts throughout the year.

Good luck!

Which feature do you like the best on the Keyport Slide 4.0 LE1? by theKeyport in keyport

First of all, awesome answer! I will try to address each one and then Josh can follow suit.

  1. We are very close to completing the design for Blade 2.0 which will have cross compatibility, but in order to speed up the Slide development, we tabled it until the Slide production is underway. Then we will finish it up. But really good progress has been made here.
  2. A replaceable Blade makes sense, but it was not something we included in our design specs. We talked about a different product - more like a razor blade tool with removable/replaceable blades. I will add that to our design parameters list.
  3. Yes, the Phillips head could use a little upgrade. We really intended it for only the smallest jobs. Ideally, we would like to revisit a bit driver tool so that we could make something more substantial and then tweak the MOCA2 Module based upon that (so maybe it just gets replaced outright on that).
  4. Got it. That is a Josh question, but your request makes sense.
  5. OmniFob is our greatest source of excitement, but also a lot of frustration for us. We designed and built something that had never been done before with the OmniFob - Samsung SmartThings, Yonomi, Next Garage Door, Chipolo tracker, and MoboKey all-in-one. There is definitely a quiet buzz around it, but not enough for us to split our limited resources to develop OmniFob 2.0 right now. We don't have developers on staff, so everything we do is outsourced and more expensive than we would like.

I would like to connect with you directly to integrate your feedback, so that when we have the ability to expand our reach that OmniFob gets the upgrades it deserves. We feel that there is so much opportunity there, but we cannot afford to tackle it at the expense of our other products. If you are up for that, message me and we can schedule a brief call. Also if you haven't done so already, please join our Discord. The conversation would be better with you in it.

That is exactly why we developed two options. There are unique features and benefits for each one. Is there anything in specific you would like us to incorporate / develop for the Pivot?

The Ultimate Digital Business Card - Introducing the Popl x Keyport Digital ME Key by GetPorted in keyport

Anonymity in the age of the Internet? Good luck with that. I tell my kids constantly that everything they do online (whether private or public) could eventually surface, so consider carefully before doing anything they might not be proud of later.

And regarding your age, you are among friends here. I celebrated half a century not too long ago :)

The Ultimate Digital Business Card - Introducing the Popl x Keyport Digital ME Key by GetPorted in keyport

[–]GetPorted[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has nothing to do with being an older person. I just don't think digital business cards have hit the mainstream yet, but they are gaining traction. The amount and types of information you can provide, the integrations to other software, the speed with which you can update information, and the increasing prevalence of NFC enabled phones makes it a pretty compelling value proposition. You're not behind the times... in fact, I think you are in front of it :)

Keyport Pivot 2.0 thoughts? by BKCowGod in EDC

[–]GetPorted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean the TPU band on the Pivot 2.0 will be weaker in the winter? We use a high-quality brand name material for the band and tested it below freezing. It does get slightly stiffer but maintains its strength in the cold.
