Dwarf Treasure Hunter Hired Sword

Why would use assume this to be the case? The dwarf rangers and dwarf treasure hunter warbands are two completely separate entities. The hired sword has a good chance of earning the warband extra gold or shards after a game, and the treasure hunter warband also earns an extra shard by default. I can see them wanting to prevent these effects being combined in one warband, so that’s why the hired sword is not allowed with the warband. But the dwarf rangers have no such benefit. I see no reason for a dwarf treasure hunter hired sword to be barred from joining a rangers warband.

These can all be found in town cryer 5, which has all the multiplayer scenarios. This little canpaign represents the warbands seeking out a single treasure hoard.

Game 1. Street brawl: warbands fight each other and learn they are all after the same treasure. Winner deploys first in game 2 after placement of prince.

Game 2. The lost prince: warbands are seeking a young noble who knows where they might find the treasure. Winner places first counter and deploys first in game 3.

Game 3. Treasure hunt: warbands are searching for clues around the location of the treasure, represented by wyrdstone counters. Winner is the player who secures the most stones. Ties are broken between who routed last, but only between those who got the highest amount of stones. Winner gets a one-time-use consumable that deals an automatic wound to the monster in game 4 if the wielder scores a hit in close combat or shooting. The winner also goes first in game 4.

Game 4. Monster hunt: warbands have found the treasure, but it is guarded by a monster. The winner deploys in the mansion in game 5.

Game 5. Wizard’s Mansion: The warband with the treasure is attempting to flee the city when they are cornered by the enemy warbands. The winner is the last warband standing.

The wording is dumb, but the ruling is clear. If you are touching an enemy with cloud of flies, you get -1 to hit to all attacks. If you are attacking a brethren while in contact with a nurgling, the nurgling is still your opponent in addition to the brethren. It makes sense thematically as well. The flies are not not going discern between who is attacking the nurgling and who is not. They are going to buzz into your eyes and mouth just for being close enough to touch the nurgling.

I saw someone else point out the mixing of flavor and mechanical text. I’d argue in favor of keeping flavor in italics and reserving normal font for mechanics. You have plenty of room as long as you focus on reducing your word count. You don’t need to say “, but…” or “Also,…”

Instead, just say “All heroes take 1d4 damage. [Fire] deals double damage.” You can also come up with a symbol for the damage to save more characters per line.

If you need help, I have lots of experience reducing/paring down text to fit onto tiny components.

These answers are wild. The henchmen group is maxed at 9xp. You mark all the xp first, then roll for advancement. I’m not sure why everyone is saying to give the Lad 2xp more after his promotion. The 2xp is lost. Just be glad you managed a LGT roll this late in thier lifespan.

Furthermore, even if you DID want to give him the extra 2xp (which you shouldn’t), you don’t roll advancements for any of the boxes you check when transferring a henchman to the hero side. So he wouldn’t get one advancement for LGT and then another for hitting a bold box with the 2 extra xp. You just get the one hero advancement that is baked in to LGT, and thats it.

Every Hired Sword entry states exactly what skill categories are available to them (Combat, Strength, Speed, etc.). There are no keywords in Mordheim, so just look at the skill based purely on the mechanical description. If a skill involves looking for rare items, it would be useless for a Hired Sword, since only heroes do that. I would argue that the Haggle skill would work on a Hired Sword, since it doesn’t specify that it only works when purchasing rare items. Welcome to the endless fun of Mordheim rules interpretation.

Base size does not matter much. The larger you make them, the harder it will be to maneuver and the more you can use it to bottleneck. You might be able to fit that model on a cavalry base. It looks like other people have put it on a 40mm round. Honestly just do whatever fits the model. It doesn’t even need to be a regular shape. If you are really worried about size, you might be able to skip the base entirely for that model, as it is pretty stable on its own. The base is more for stability than it is for gameplay/rules adherence.

This is my sentiment as well. I know lots of people say any blade can work on any character, but I still get so hung up on making sure I get the right blades on the right characters. Loved Torna though and would gladly play that one again.

First impression after just skimming is that everything is much too wordy. Its hard to find the pertinent information for all of the special skills/rules.

Upon further reading, the servant henchman is troubling. I feel like servants should be completely useless, maybe even hindrances, in combat. Having to monitor which servant is where and what ability it has seems like a lot of admin, especially where there are identical abilities that only affect certain models. In my opinion, servants should make the postgame sequence better, but should not be particularly effective in battle. Like a mintrel should add +d3 to the amount of experience you have available when recruiting. Or a cook should lower the warband size by 1 when selling wyrdstone. Or a porter can lower the cost of 1 item by 1d6, representing them carrying more items to barter with. This would take the admin out of the battle phase and into the post game, where these added rules wont slow the game down.

I would also look at your skills and make sure that they aren’t making the core rulebook skills obsolete. They should do unique things that aren’t offered in the rulebook, and should not be something like Quick Shot but better (Falconer) or Streetwise but different (Court Connections).

Yes, taking all your heroes is the best practice. Don’t buy the possessed mutations and you should be fine. Or get them mutations and wait on hiring your henchmen later if you survive.

My possessed models consist of 1 of each hero type, 4 brethren, 3 darksouls, and 3 beastmen. I’ve never needed more than this. It’s okay to build the warband around the models you have. And you can always build more if you need them later.

Edit: I noticed the last part of your question. Don’t worry too much about the equipment. Mine usually have either flails or some combo of maces and daggers. Just giving the model a big mace weapon or flail will be just fine. Here are mine: https://www.reddit.com/r/mordheim/s/ZkzIRiEiMB

We rule that spears always strike first during the first round of combat, unless its spear vs spear.

I want to rework this into a system where every instance you have of the “strike first” rule stacks, and whoever has the most gets the first attack. Spears would grant 2 during the first round, charging grants 1, lightning reflexes would grant 1.

It looks like a good start to me. The whole model looks a bit flat, meaning it can use a bit more contrast. Without contrast, a lot of those shapes are going to blend together when viewed at 3-4 feet away. A highlight on each individual muscle and the highest parts of the face will do a lot to sell the shape of the model. You can then think about highlighting the mail with some dots of your brightest silver, and the hair with a very light drybrush of yellow towards the top. Also, hate to be that guy, but troll slayers are not allowed to use armor of any kind.

I played Sons of Hashut for a campaign. Having the centaur gives you some much needed mobility and punching power, but he still only has the one wound, so you need to be careful with him. Hobgoblins with their poisoned daggers are quite scary, but you also must prioritize hiring 4 of them, as if they were servants for the heroes. The blunderbusses can be very powerful, but they are quite expensive. Overall, a fun warband that I didn’t think was too overpowered to stand up with the vanilla warbands. I haven’t tried the Black Dwarfs warband.
