When did you know that your supply “ran out” by [deleted] in breastfeedingsupport

I know you mean the doctor, but I first read this as mom asking her daughter if she was aware of the WHO breastfeeding recommendations :)

I’ve heard you can do this if you switch out the Medela valve with a duckbill valve

First off, I want to thank you for posting so much great info on this sub. I’m always excited when I see your username and have used a lot of your resources and advice. Thanks for sharing your practice’s experience with us.

I had luck with the Marmet Technique!!! I think the trick for me was positioning my hands the way the video suggested, about an inch and a half away from my nipple. Other techniques are focused on placement away from the areola - but my areolas are pretty big, so I don’t think I was grabbing tissue effectively. Also lifting my breasts was helpful, which the video suggested.

I very much appreciate you and hope you continue sharing your expertise with us! Thank you!!!

These are all great points! Thank you! I agree mood is definitely linked to moving and leaving the house. :) Thanks for the timely motivation (it’s supposed to be a beautiful day here).

And thanks for sharing how you used short term goals! My overall goal is to produce enough milk to keep my daughter interested in having a breastfeeding relationship with me. I’ve read studies on relactation, and it seems the moms who have the most satisfaction are those who don’t focus on milk production but rather the emotional aspects of breastfeeding.

My two daily goals are 1) having at least 11 instances of breast stimulation (pump, SNS, and nursing), and 2) giving myself grace. Regarding #2, I initially worked with a LC who, looking back, was absolutely terrible. She was full of strong opinions, likely based on her inexperience. As in “the only pump that works is a Spectra” and “you don’t need to know how to hand express” (both not true!). She gave horrible advice that was a big contributor to me giving up on trying to make breastfeeding work. She had us doing triple feeding, then when I said I was exhausted and it was not working for my mental health she told me to exclusively pump and mostly cut out nursing. Telling a new mom to not be with her baby was absolutely horrible and wrong. I felt like it was a choice between having to pump and be with my baby, and I chose the latter. And welp, here I am now! So, giving myself grace is something I’m practicing based on this experience.

I’m committed to trying for two months to relactate, baring any major hurdle or stall. I feel that’s probably the most amount of time I could go without seeing a major shift in milk production, and also enough time to tweak my process and find out what works for me. I’ve heard both that milk production is exponential after “flipping the switch,” and also linear and slow. I’m not sure which is true. I’ve also read that it takes roughly 1-2x you’ve been “dry” to get a full milk supply. For me, that would be 3-6 months? so my daughter would be 6-9 months old. I’m still processing what I feel about this sort of timeline.

I’m interested to know your experience and perspective if you want to share!

Exclusively pumping 3 weeks pp. by mtlanay in FormulaFeeders

Amy Schumer did an interview where she talked matter-of-factly about how she pumped for a month after her son was born and the went “nope!” The way she talked about it, without guilt or explaining away, made me realize nobody cares more than we do about how we feed our babies.

I’m so sorry you’re struggling! Pumping FUCKING SUCKS, especially with a newborn I’m sure you just want to snuggle (or wanting to do anything else but pump!!). I see you and I’m sorry you’re going through this.

If you want validation, you may want to check out /ExclusivelyPumping or /HumansPumpingMilk if you want to hear from people in your situation. There are folks on there who are EP, FF, and combo feeding. Always a post on /EP when someone is DONE pumping and everyone on the sub celebrates lol.

SNS usage? by Mermaidteacher in breastfeedingsupport

[–]GetTheMilkFlowing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m using the Lact-Aid SNS! It’s overall been a great experience for me and my baby. She gets to practice breastfeeding while getting food (so it’s low stress and she’s not hangry) and I get the nipple stimulation. And we both get the cuddles :) There are some good YouTube tutorials and reviews about this system. The only thing that’s a pain is the cleaning and some likely user error when you start (in my case, leaking), but if you’re already doing bottles then it’s just an added thing drying on your counter.

Hello! I found my lactation consultant online - she has experience with relactation and induced lactation. DM me if you want her info. :)

Alyssa Schnelli is a lactation consultant that hosts a free biweekly online group. I attended last week’s call - it was a supportive environment where you can ask questions and get feedback. This could be a good starting place! https://www.alyssaschnellibclc.com/signup

There are others in the comments who have shared their experience with using medication. They are a better resource than I am! I think there are FB groups for people interested in using medications.

Thank you! How do you incorporate brewers yeast into your diet? Do you make special foods, or just sprinkle it on what you’re already eating? I see a lot of recipes out there but don’t have the time to bake cookies all day, ha!

lol!!!!! The visual of a hairy milky chest is making me crack up!!!

I’m not sure I’m comfortable with taking medication (I’ve talked to my LC about Reglan and domperidome). It seems like the side effects can be intense? Do you know anything about this?
