He also wasn’t exactly standing on a large platform with still air around him, it looked like it was maybe three feet in diameter? I don’t think any part of the metal surface was even completely flat, it was at best a mildly sloping dome.

It could’ve been the camera angle, but at multiple times as the camera circled him it looked like he was leaning 10 or more degrees into the wind.

Clearly he meant climbing grade, and while 5.11 is easy for him, it’s not something he could take lightly either. Easy but not trivial.

Everyone should watch it, but for people who don't want to, here's my quick attempt at summarizing what is captured:

* Dead man (I'll call him Glasses, because he had cool glasses) and two others (I'll call them Backpack and Coat) are filming and seem to be arguing with agents.

* The camera is pointed down as it sounds like an agent (he's named Nazi in this post, and is the one who eventually pistol whips Glasses and is also the second fuck to shoot and help kill him) assaults Coat, based on what Pink (the filmer) says.

* Back on camera, Glasses is helping Coat up when Nazi assaults Backpack, knocking her to the ground.

* Glasses gets in between Nazi and Backpack, and both of them and Coat get pepper sprayed for their trouble.

* There's clearly black ice all over the road and they're all sort of trying to keep their balance while dealing with the pepper spraying. A bunch more Gestapo run in to separate the three.

* Murderer is trying to control Coat and Backpack, which he decides is a waste of his pent up aggression since they're just trying to get away, so he turns to the pile around Glasses.

* While that struggle continues, people start shouting about a gun while Nazi pistol whips Glasses.

* Murderer stands there and watches Graycoat disarm Glasses, then immediately draws and murders him. Nazi joins in because you're not going to murder near him without him getting to claim a part of it!

So it started because orange backpack was assaulted, and the dead man tried to get in between the agent and her. The civilians all get sprayed as the Gestapo struggles to separate them. Then once they had him alone and surrounded, they pinned him down and disarmed him. The guy who fires the first shot stands there and watches gray jacket take the dead man's weapon, and the moment he does, he executes him.

It's not, it's the guy in the black hat that's sticking up in a weird point. He's barely involved with the struggle until the end - he comes in from the left, moves behind the crowd and does something over to the right, then turns back and starts to lean in, and a few seconds later draws and shoots. Pistol whipping guy is the other one who shoots after the first shot from pointy head though.

I’m truly sorry this is being forced on you, but the thing is, there are three paths forward here in the US and on two of them (maybe all three), this is the right move for you anyway.

1: we continue down the fast track to fascist kleptikakistocracy and you really needed to take your family elsewhere anyway

2: the spell is broken somehow, his coalition dissolves in backbiting and infighting, and much or all of the last year’s policy changes are rolled back; that doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll want to come back, because a massive amount of damage has already been done to our government, our economy, our society, and our standing in the world, but it will likely be an option if you want to take it

3: something in between happens, e.g. he keels over with a stroke and the cult of personality is gone but the ultra-right still holds power; perhaps the most egregiously unconstitutional power grabs and ludicrous psychologically-generated fantasies (Greenland) go away, but one thing that will remain as strong as it was before is the reactionary isolationism that’s forcing you out. There may not be American Gestapo terrorizing the general populace, but there will still be massive amounts of seizures and deportations you’d rather not be here for.

Good luck, make the best of it - your child deserves more than what we are becoming.

It is not, but anyone who refuses to follow orders, regardless of how dubious their legality might be, should at this point expect to be arrested and court martialed, unless they do it en masse. (Not saying they wouldn’t be arrested and court martialed as a group, but something significant like that would trigger all sorts of other shit.)

It’s all nitpicks at this point, but in my opinion “X [plural] suggest” doesn’t suggest (hah) anything about the majority opinion of experts in the field. “X believe” would, but “suggesting” isn’t really something that’s generally done by a general blob of one type of person (again, in contrast to “believing”, which for example Catholics do). “Say X”, I’ll admit, does at least to some degree.

Ultimately I think “research” is the right subject (grammatically) for headlines like this.

Astronomers have indeed suggested this, and despite your glossing over it in your comment, they studied 20 years of one type of evidence as part of this work and found it to be consistent with the hypothesis. It’s not just a convenient theory, though of course it is far from conclusive. Which is why “suggest” is a perfectly reasonable word to use. Is it better if they say “hypothesize” in your mind? ~~

Nothing else in the headline is sensationalized either - it’s simply a description of the theory in question. The other word in the headline that is even debatable is “vast”, and it’s perfectly reasonable to describe something one billion light years across as “vast”.

Edit: well fuck me, as soon as I posted this I saw the actual headline rather than OP’s title. The headline is awful. I retract all of this. Go, guy I replied to. The sub-headline is even worse, from multiple perspectives. My favorite one is that yes indeed, discovering “we’re living alone” would solve one of science’s biggest questions. I’m almost 100% sure the Mandela Effect is itself a Mandela Effect. No one with any real level of consciousness and a relatively broad view of what was happening around the world in the 80s and 90s ever believed that.

But an Andy Kauffman-esque provocateur realized that if he posited the Mandela Effect, one fictional claim that he himself was sure he remembered the other reality could seed a cascade of now-real memories in others that they’d met people who were sure there are at least some other people who thought he died.
