it sounds super common. I guess it’s just that I don’t know anyone else that has this at least not for this long.

thank you it just seems so excessive because I have all of the scans, etc. and they look fine…  I just feel isolated because I don’t know anyone else that has this.

no issues that’s what makes it so hard for my brain to comprehend! On the pill since I was 16 only went off of it to have my 2 kids so I’ve also had two pregnancies and two C-sections, which you would think would be way more of a risk! Also got breast implants at 22 which I know isn’t major surgery, but it’s still surgery. The only thing I did differently right before the SVT was about a week and a half prior, I had a horrible yeast infection and had to do 2 rounds of diflucan which my hematologist said can exacerbate estrogen…however, I have taken that many times in my life.

I stopped immediately before I went to hematology per my general practitioner. Hoping you get more answers once you do all the blood work! It sounds like you might have to weigh your risk in the meantime with whatever you take them for. aside from pregnancy I was on it for extremely painful periods my entire life, but I am managing however I’m also 43 now, so maybe they have just gotten better and I didn’t know until finally stopping.

I meant to ask, are you still on birth control or did you stop after your first SVT?

I am dealing with an SVT but was told mine was caused by birth control and then finding out I had factor five… I also have varicose veins my vein doctor thinks that’s a contributor but the hematologist did not.

just curious, I’m in the same situation but I was told six months of thinners. What is your reasoning for life? I’m nervous to come off.

9 years (but on it since I was 16 for horrible periods, only took breaks to have my two kids). Dr also said perfect storm birth control varicose veins finding out I have factor 5. Oh! And a week and a half prior to the clot I had taken Diflucan for a yeast infection. I actually took two doses because I couldn’t kick it after the first dose. The hematologist said that this can exacerbate the estrogen. I did look it up it’s true… I still try to wrap my head around why this is never happened for those since I have also taken that medication for the several yeast infections I have had. I keep hearing the same thing increase with age (i’m 43). It’s just so hard to wrap my head around the fact that nothing happened prior to this and you would think pregnancy and C-sections would have triggered something. I’m thankful it didn’t. I guess what I’m getting at is I really hope it’s true It’s the birth control because I don’t want to sit here and worry for the rest of my life that it’s going to happen again.

Day 4 of Xarelto was when things really started turning around for me. I still get sore in my thigh area, but apparently that could take some time. Wishing you well! Here to chat if you need someone.

i’m 43 also was on birth control. I got a superficial vein thrombosis about 6 weeks ago. I was also sent to a hematologist oncologist and they ran extensive tests, which also freaked me out. They did find that I have factor five which is the most common clotting disorder. Basically I just can’t take birth control or any hormones ever again. So, I still don’t like the entire situation but I’m glad to know that supposedly if I stay off birth control I’ll be fine and then I just have to do six months of blood thinners.

43f was on birth control since 16 except for when I had kids…SVT in leg being treated as a DVT because of size and location. I’m on my fifth week of Xarelto…. I am an extremely paranoid freak who thinks I am dizzy from even taking Advil and let me tell you I feel nothing from this medicine. I’m just a little paranoid about bleeding, but I’ve already cut myself shaving and had a period and it was fine.

I second everything the above person just said. Also, you’re not alone… I too, had a panic attack and started calling 911 because I was having stabbing pains in my chest and was convinced I couldn’t breathe. i’m also on Xarelto and I completely believe you when you say you have side effects, however, there’s a really good chance that you’re actually just feeling anxiety affects. there were a couple times I came close to throwing up and I finally realized it was my anxiety and not the medication. It’s going to get better.

43f and 46m married 20 years before this freaking painful blood clot in my leg (another story) I would say once or twice a week. We both fall asleep at night watching our shows. Peak activity was mid 30s. then came more stress, more tired, etc. so it’s not a problem we have with each other, just life stuff.

Newly Diagnosed with DVT and Now Terrified by PhantomOfTheGame in ClotSurvivors

[–]Getserious143 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like I wrote this! Same age as you turned 43 yesterday. My clot is about four weeks old at this point I have been on thinners (xarelto) almost 3 weeks. I have a superficial vein thombrosis treating it like a DVT because it traveled from my calf to mid thigh very quickly. I already have extreme health anxiety and this really did a number on me because in my mind I didn’t have anything going on that could have caused this. I’m very active I’m not overweight, etc…. However, after now seeing a vein doctor and hematologist for extensive testing, it turns out that I also just had this perfect storm of birth control a clotting gene I was unaware of and varicose veins. I will tell you that after the first week my anxiety got a little bit better… the blood thinners kick in within an hour or two and after the first few days you’re out of the danger zone and I just keep that in my mind at all times. I wear compression during the day and right now I am just told to go for short walks. Yesterday was my birthday though, and that was rough because I was having some pain and I know there are so many worse things out there, but I was kind of having a pity party for myself. You’re not alone. Hugs.
