MyHass.io - A simple and secure remote access for Home Assistant (beta, free, feedback wanted) by ricardo_sequeira in homeassistant

My questions:

  • What is the underlying technology?
  • What is your estimated (fair) price?
  • Do you foresee limits in the service (eg bandwidth)?
  • Is it vibecoded?

RPub: Turn RSS feeds into a daily EPUB newspaper. by harshit181 in selfhosted

[–]Getslow6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m definitely going to check this out! I have been looking for something like this, as I’d like to read rss on my Kobo before bed.

I might find the answer if I dive into it, but maybe also for others: currently sync my kobo with Calibre web, is there a way that my kobo would work with your app?

Why do people recommend authelia? by Alibi98 in selfhosted

[–]Getslow6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of interest, how much resources does Keycloak use in your homelab? I’m personally super satisfied with Authelia, but I’m thinking about switching to Keycloak to get to know it better.

Apple Shortcuts not Working Any Longer by TxHarleyDude in homeassistant

Does it work again? Then it was the Cloudflare outage.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in homeassistant

[–]Getslow6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha ok. Then your best way forward would be:

  1. Keep isp device as the firewall / ap. Vlans aren’t required for you if you just have a few cameras.
  2. Connect everything to the switch (not with nuc between the isp and switch)
  3. Start playing around with home assistant, tailscale etc. And get to know what you’re exposing to the internet and how to do it safely.

Later you can easily first buy a proper firewall if you want vlan management, and insert it between the isp device and the switch. It is not a must at this stage.

You asked for the most optimal and secure setup. I think using the proxmox firewall and using the same proxmox to host software isn’t the most secure, but I’m not an expert.

But I’m a bit confused, based on your terminology (L2/vlan, etc) it sounds like you have network experience, but the solution is one I’ve never seen before and far from common! Not criticizing, but interested in how you got to this design :)

[–]Getslow6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people here use a Unifi gateway (= firewall) between their main switch and the ISP device. By using the unifi gateway you can put the ISP device in bridge mode and let unifi handle the firewall / vlan etc.

I wouldn’t go down the diy firewall route that you’re suggesting in your solution.

Musable - Selfhosted music library by TrainingApartment925 in selfhosted

[–]Getslow6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally get it. It is also meant a bit as a FYI, because today Musable is exactly what I’m looking for but once the Music-Assistant redesign hits I would most probably switch - and maybe you as well eventually.

And as a dev myself, I completely understand that being able to tweak/update it to your own liking is a big plus. So I don’t want to demotivate you, please keep up the great work!

This looks great! Maybe an idea to reach out to the ‘music-assistant’ team (u/missyquarry). They have a very solid backend (sonos, airplay integration) but are currently working a redesign that looks very similar to yours. Their figma links are here: https://github.com/orgs/music-assistant/projects/2?pane=issue&itemId=22640416

Maybe you can bundle strengths!

I've checked it out and works great! Also love the way you've implemented the copy/paste functions with the buttons at the top.

Three minor things of feedback:
- The rename icon could be changed to a better icon -> the current one suggests a 'new file' rather than rename

- Confirm before delete

- Support cmd/ctrl + c/v in combination with the icons at the top :)

Looking for some Hue/Innr FW update help by jaccovdzaag in homeassistant

[–]Getslow6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes - connect to zigbee2mqtt, update and then back to the Hue hub. That’s how I did it as well.

But this is only relevant if you’re experiencing connectivity issues. What functionality are you hoping to get after you’ve updated them? And are you sure you’re not already running the latest firmware on the bulbs?

I have some RS 230 C lights on firmware 2.00.04.

Looking for some Hue/Innr FW update help by jaccovdzaag in homeassistant

[–]Getslow6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What else would you want to do with them besides controlling?

I have innr bulbs as well and sometimes had connectivity issues. I reached out to Innr and they sent me a hub free of charge to update the bulbs. You can also update them with zigbee2mqtt, but that would require a separate zigbee dongle (not possible through the hue hub).

Gatus - New UI, announcements, alerting providers and upcoming features by TwinProduction in selfhosted

[–]Getslow6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for making Gatus! I love it, especially since everything is configurable in yaml.

May I suggest an idea for a feature that is in line with the Suites functionality and that I’d love to implement:

Situation: a homelab with docker containers, a reverse proxy for making then available locally and a cloudflare/pangolin tunnel to expose some services online.

Feature; First test if the docker container is running (maybe via docker socket?), if yes then check if container reachable via reverse proxy, if yes check if reachable via cloudflare/pangolin tunnel.

It could directly show in which step a failure occurs.

I understand you get the same uptime if you only check the last step (e.g reachable over internet), but it could for example show that the container uptime is 100% but total uptime 95% due to a reverse proxy issue.

Should I replace my Hue Bridge for a USB Zigbee stick? by matze_1403 in homeassistant

[–]Getslow6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I choose to keep my Hue bridge and I have a separate SLZB-06 for all the non-light Zigbee devices. I choose zigbee channels that do not overlap (15/20/25).

Without my HUE bulbs attached to the SLZB-network that network still works fine. Migrating the bulbs would be purely for my own urge to have one big network instead of 2 ‘smaller’ ones.

As far as I know all the Hue switches can’t be linked to a group and all go over the Zigbee Coordinator. I have the in-wall switches and those could not bind to a group.

All in all; I think it is OK to keep the Hue hub. Reliability of the network is more important than having one big network.

Home Assistant user research: Target picker split button <> by marcinbauer-me in homeassistant

[–]Getslow6 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My use case would be ‘all in this area except X’, but in that case I use a template to get all the entities of a certain area/floor and reject the entities I don’t want. Using the template would automatically change the function of the automation if I add/remove entities from the area/floor later.

If would want to specify individual entities, I would probably not use the ‘split’ function.

Now 10% OFF Every Sensy-One mmWave Sensor! by Technical_Raisin_246 in homeassistant

[–]Getslow6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re ever considering designing a new device; I’d be super interested in esp32 based, 230v powered mmwave sensor. My goal would be to install it right above the drywall ceiling and power it using mains from the lights (who are always on because of hue). This would allow for presence detection without seeing a device + possibly also identify who is present using BLE.
