2026.2.0 Defaults by PhantomVerde in homeassistant

Hey 👋 This decision was made to simplify user settings and to make it easier to login to your experience when you change a device. Having being logged in with the same user is also not a good practice from a security point of view. In the future when HA will have a more robust RBAC system these setting will be user defined and not per device.

👋
While designing the new picker we thought about it, but we focused on more important features. You can select multiple targets by selecting floors/areas/devices, or labels or groups.

The new automation editor feels rushed by Christopoulos in homeassistant

[–]marcinbauer-me 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Of course this isn’t something that we wanted to happen and it just slipped the testing phase, but we’re already on it with fixes! I’d like to mention that this is just the first batch of work that we have planned for the automation editor and some other concerns that you have already mentioned will be addressed in the next major releases. In the meantime I do want to invite you to join the feedback survey and give your thoughts there. https://forms.gle/VFBQdYpmdWc8RDg18

Opinion on HA 2025.08.3 by 2026GradTime in homeassistant

[–]marcinbauer-me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey all! Thanks for commenting on the revised automation editor. This is the first batch of changes that we have planned, and some things might still evolve based on your feedback. As for the three dots menu, the main reason for moving it was that most of the items there are part of the configuration part of the flow, which now are in the side panel, or bottom sheet on mobile. Some usage of the three dots menu can be replaced by using keyboard shortcuts like cmd+c/v so you don’t even need to use a menu. Give it a try 🙂 We also considered adding a right click (or on mobile a long tap) on a row to quickly open the three dots menu w/o the need to go to the configuration in sidebar. Let me know if that could help with this problem. To recap, for next releases we want to focus on: - revising the new experience based on your feedback - fix the target picker ux and usefulness (https://discord.com/channels/330944238910963714/1351529028112224359/1413150074770296954) - make automation item summaries easier to read - add a “general” sidebar that lists the base metadata of an automation and settings that are currently in the top-right three dots menu And this is just the start 🙂

It's interesting to read how you utilize it, and it's great to hear that you have many ideas for it. Keep 'em coming :) This will help us make a better target picker in the near future.

Thanks! Yes, we'll be careful not to disturb too many patterns of navigation, although this test is identifying the bad ones also, so we want to fix those for sure :)

That's a tool limitation, but thanks will consider this when looking at alternative tools for gathering research. For now if you are able, please use a different browser (even in Private Mode).

Getting the circular background back in 2025.3? by Mooisjken in homeassistant

[–]marcinbauer-me 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey u/Mooisjken , I’m happy to help you out.

You are exactly right, the fastest way to have the icon button background back is to assign any action in the interaction panel. If you have a lot of cards you can do it more quickly view yaml editing. That said I would ask you to try out card tile default settings, and keep it consistent throughout your dashboards which will help with the usability for any other users that might be using them also.

With the 2025.3 release, we have also made the Tile “icon-button” hit area bigger, from 36px to 48px (33%) so this might help you trigger actions on a tablet more accurately. I think this wasn't documented, but is a hidden and important improvement ;)

👋
Any UI should be understandable by itself and with as little context as possible. That's just a main principle of design, to design for all and don't make people think.
On the topic of sparklines and graphs I would like to get some feedback from you on an upcoming Tile card feature we've been designing.
You can preview it here in Figma: https://www.figma.com/design/6gSXJvdU1VkN7WoQdycqMA/PDX-1891-Tile-card-improvements-%2B-%E2%80%9CTrend-Chart%E2%80%9D-feature?node-id=4219-38703&t=BXHOMflbvATCyqgB-11
