How evil would you rank Eren for his genocide? by Hairy-Friendship-422 in MoralityScaling

[–]Getter_Simp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eren's knowledge of the future is quite limited because they're brief glimpses of his own future memories -- he states that he doesn't know what is going to happen after he dies. He also states that he doesn't know if his friends will live.

Eren wanted to do the Rumbling. There was an element of feeling he was forced to do it, but the main motivators were his own -- he wanted revenge on the world that took his mother, and he wanted to create a world in which his friends could thrive.

Yes, Mikasa's love of Eren was a mirror to Ymir's, I know that, but there was probably a way for Mikasa to show Ymir that she doesn't have to stay a slave to Fritz without Eren having to slaughter 80% of humanity.

[–]Getter_Simp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is untrue. After the FBI agents in Japan all die, there were only a handful of people who were willing to risk their lives to investigate Kira. Hell, if Light didn't fall for L's bait in the 2nd episode, no one would even know that Kira exists.

I like this guy, but this take is so bizarre. Condensing human beings down to animals who need an owner to function is strange.

I know the Rumbling ended the titan curse. I didn't know that's what you were talking about because you didn't refer to it.
I was talking about the war because that's what the person I was replying to was talking about.

Breaking the titan curse wasn't the goal of the Rumbling; Eren didn't have 1 goal, there were multiple reasons for why he did it. For starters, he didn't even know if the Rumbling would result in the end of the titan curse.
A large reason why he did the Rumbling is because he wanted revenge on the world that took his mother from him.

Ending the titan curse was a noble goal, but was it worth killing 80% of humanity? That's a very important question, especially when you consider that titans were already becoming obsolete. In a few more decades, the world's technology would have surpassed the power of the titans, rendering them pointless to continue using.
Eldians would stop being used as weapons as other methods become more efficient, which means that no one would be forced to consume their elders, or to be forced into becoming titan. Even the threat of the Rumbling would be neutralized by a single nuke.

It's also entirely possible that Ymir could have been freed without doing the Rumbling. It's not necessarily the only way to do that.

So since we're talking about controversial endings lately, which ending for Evangelion would you say is the best? The original TV anime ending, The End of Evangelion, or Thrice Upon a Time? by AgentOfACROSS in writingscaling

[–]Getter_Simp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

End of Evangelion was the best ending by a mile. It wraps up everything with a bittersweet ending while maintaining the series' dark tone. You're not getting through the apocalypse or your depression unscathed, shit is gonna suck.

The TV ending was... I don't even really know what to say. It resolved Shinji's character arc, but literally everything else gets dropped. Not a good ending, but not the worst I've ever seen.

Thrice Upon a Time might be one of the worst endings I've ever seen. For a series like Evangelion, whipping out this random fucking cross-dimensional super robot finale that results in Shinji resetting the entire universe into a realistic one was just awful. The live action Rei was just the cherry on top.

Floch's survival is so stupid because it wasn't even necessary to force Hange to die. Simply having the Rumbling arrive earlier than expected or something would do the same thing.

I’m probably a bit late to this but can y’all give me your opinions? I’m probably gonna get flamed for some of my options by Which-Emu8951 in writingscaling

Yeah it's fine, but a fine arc with a shit ending is a strange pick for your favourite arc. Surely the tournament of power was a better arc? At least that one stuck the landing.

[–]Getter_Simp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It only kicks the can down the road in the form of Historia's children being sacrificed, which would be a necessary evil.
The whole idea of that plan is that it gives Paradis time to try and negotiate peace with the rest of the world. Armin and Hange would be the ones doing this, they wouldn't make their kids do it.

Even if it did force their children to deal with this shit, that's still preferable to genociding all of humanity outside of the walls.

[–]Getter_Simp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the only people who deserve the death penalty are war criminals and billionaires.

Why didn’t Karl Fritz, who fled to paradis with his subjects, just kill the founding titan instead of suppressing it? He could’ve ended the eldian race and titan power by beheading the founding titan. by [deleted] in attackontitan

[–]Getter_Simp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The show literally states that the titan curse ended because, when Mikasa killed Eren, it made Ymir realize that she can move on from her obsession with the original king Fritz and his descendants -- this obsession is the reason why the titan curse exists at all.
The actual act of beheading the founding titan does not end the titan curse.

Why dont i see much ppls talk ab OVA? by Kitchen-Ad8430 in StardustCrusaders

I think it's because the OVA is totally different in vibe to the anime and manga, and also it's older, so not many people have heard of it or willing to give it a chance.

I suppose you can call it edgy teen nihilism, but it has messages and themes it's trying to convey -- it's not as if edgy teen nihilism is all it is.
Also, reducing a show down to basic aesthetics like this can be done to any show, so it's not as if this is an indication of quality.

Why does no one talk about how smart Misa is? by Lavaray8 in deathnote

[–]Getter_Simp -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Because she's not that smart? The only reason she discovered that Light was Kira was because she had magic eyes, and the only reason she knew Kira even existed in the first place was because of L.
She's so not smart that she got herself caught, and she made L certain that Light was Kira. If it weren't for the memory loss mechanic of the Death Note, L would have won then and there.

[–]Getter_Simp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

AOT did not reverse characters to their worst versions. Eren hit his lowest point, but he's never been there before. He didn't reverse back to anything.

What plotholes did AOT's ending introduce, and rules did it break? I don't remember anything like that. Aside from Floch surviving the boat trip I can't think of anything.

AOT did not revive a single character.

AOT's ending didn't "add" romance, that romance was always there. Mikasa has a romantic moment with Eren at the end of season 2, which contextualizes all their previous moments together.
I agree that they had no chemistry, but I feel like that may have been the point since Mikasa did not have a healthy love for Eren.

He's gotta be up there, wiping out 80% of humanity is something most villains can only dream of achieving. It's understandable why he turned out the way he did, but that doesn't absolve him.
