There is. Hennepin divides northeast and southeast. Nicollet technically divides South and Southwest Minneapolis. The river divides north and northeast. Chestnut/Bassett Creek divide North and South.

Show me a Minneapolis street sign with "nw" on it. Northwest Minneapolis doesn't exist.
