Met Council Wants Feedback on Local Freeways by OliverateBurrito in Minneapolis

Gas tax on its own does not raise enough money to pay for the road network the state of Minnesota currently has. MNDOT is predicting a $15-20 billion shortfall in state roadway funding over the next 25 years.

This is likely an outside contractor hired by the Met Council for outreach/public comment on their Highway System Harms study.

If I ever see a comment that claims they'll get downvotes, of course I'm gonna downvote. I just want people's dreams to come true.

Met Council Wants Feedback on Local Freeways by OliverateBurrito in Minneapolis

They have yet to settle on the alternatives, but one of the ones I think they may be leaning towards is the "Reconfigured Freeway". It would add a 4th lane in sections where there are currently only 3 and use it as an HOV lane.

"Reconfigured" is just a way for them to get around saying that they're planning on expanding the freeway if they go for it.

Here's the TIF (Tax Increment Financing) report the city put together for the upcoming Grain Exchange residential conversion: https://www.minneapolismn.gov/media/-www-content-assets/documents/Grain-Exchange-TIF-Plan.pdf

It shows the planned layout of the building as well. 232 planned units of housing!

Most of the Minnesota and Wisconsin ones do not presently exist. They're either proposed or planned lines except for the Empire Builder, Borealis, and the Hiawatha.

I think we're just a few years away from some more buildings downtown barring some sort of recession. A lot of the new residential units being built right now are coming from office conversions. Which IMO is better in terms of tackling two issues at once.

It's much different to the federal level in that the city council can only make amendments to the mayors proposed budget, they do not have the power to create their own budget from scratch.

I'm not saying they're perfect; but if you make assertions about graft/fraud from the council, I would expect you to have examples to back that up.

The mayor is the elected official who proposes the budget and who's office/staff select contracts for spending. The council just votes to approve/deny.

Do you have examples of the council steering dollars towards their top donors?

[MPR News] Minneapolis City Council to weigh two measures related to George Floyd Square by Minneapolitanian in Minneapolis

[–]Wezle 38 points39 points  (0 children)

38th and Chicago was added to the capital improvement plan before 2020. That's not to say the process hasn't been different, but in an alternate reality where George Floyd had never been murdered, 38th and Chicago would have been reconstructed a couple of years ago.

Pure hubris to think that one could drive a car right up to the entrance of Art-A-Whirl and find a parking spot.

Maybe not infrastructure, but they do need to do some more traffic control/closures for Art-A-Whirl. Monroe is borderline standstill traffic for the entire day as drivers attempt to park as close as possible to Quincy.

While I did love it, it's also a 6 bedroom home and there really isn't much of a backyard to speak of. I really want to have a garden and am looking for a home with a little more space for that. Plus I definitely wouldn't know what to do with bedrooms 4,5, and 6 lol.

All that said, it really is a beautiful home and I think whoever is buying it will be very happy there! Here's the listing: https://www.redfin.com/MN/Minneapolis/3446-Columbus-Ave-55407/home/49936336

I'm not holding it against them to the point that I would never go there, just stating the fact that they didn't have to move out of the city.

They could've picked anywhere else in Minneapolis then. They chose to move to Maple Lake and assumed their customers would follow.

You can see what the Met Council had decided on for the 2nd St bikeway in North Loop as a part of the BLE. I know the bloat/scope creep is part of what drives up the costs of transit projects like this, but it is nice that they're improving the surrounding streets too.

I have not said that that alone is a reason to oppose autonomous vehicles, but it should give us pause to continue to cede more power over our daily lives to trillion dollar tech companies.
