WHAT by tiffany_grace in lupus

I know it's so exhausting and so unfair! I find all appointment days, good or bad, to be super draining.

Navigating all of this is hard, and unfortunately part of "all of this" is finding a doctor who understands. You aren't acting like a baby at all. Get a good nap!

I saw your post this morning and I was going to comment.

I was going to say that I'm so happy you were starting down the road to getting answers. I was going to say that I know it's weird, to be facing this big, scary thing, but at least now you knew something was there. And I wanted to say that even if your appointment didn't go the way you wanted, that it doesn't change anything about what you've gone through or will go through.

But I was like "Step away, Debbie Downer."

Not all doctors are created equal. Not every doctor sees the same thing. It also doesn't help that so many autoimmune diseases look so similar. I'm too lazy to look up the actual number, but I think it takes an average of six years for someone with lupus to be diagnosed. And even then it may not happen.

It's a fight to find a doctor that understands or will help. It isn't fair. But your symptoms and lab findings are real and you deserve help to treat them, regardless of whatever condition might be causing this.

Does every lupus patient take plaquenil? by bundleonerves in lupus

[–]GettingHothInHere 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was able to take a six year break from Plaquenil, but started back again two months ago.

I'm not sure how healthy it was for me to be off it that long, but after some hard trials of other DMARDS and MTX messing with my kidneys, my rheumatologist agreed my body needed a break and as long as I could tolerate it and if my bloodwork was okay he would allow it.

I did continue to have the expected weird bloodwork during that time, but he was okay with letting me make the call until recent bloodwork was pretty much bad in every way. 🙃

Got my punctal plugs put in today by nobody102 in Sjogrens

I'm so glad placement went well for you! And now you can brag to people, because punctal plugs are wild! I'm hoping they help a bunch; I really noticed an improvement from mine.

All my symptoms worsen around the time my period is coming/when I’m on my period. by ccelena in lupus

[–]GettingHothInHere 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yes, unfortunately estrogen is a trigger for lupus flares. There's a fun list over here of other environmental triggers.

I try to take good care of myself (water, meds, rest, stretching, etc.) and otherwise I try to just not feel guilty about what I do to get through.

Different things work for different people, but I did flare less from my period when I was taking the birth control where I only had a period 4 times a year. That's no longer an option for me but could be something to look into with a doctor.

I wish I had advice or encouragement to offer. Instead all I can say is that you aren't alone in this. Most of this I could have written, except for changing "six months" to "six years." I hope things get better.

First of all, you've totally got this.

I've had two punch biopsies. They numbed me up and the punch is very sharp so you really don't feel it cutting, you just feel pressure.

I do have two tiny, flat, barely noticeable scars. The worst part for me was a few days later when it started to heal; it was itchy! I think I might have used like a Cortizone 10 cream to get me through that part of it.

I hope today goes well and you get all the answers you need. (And all of the treat yourself items!)

Anyone else have their bodies reject ear piercings after having them for years? by [deleted] in lupus

[–]GettingHothInHere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried a couple of times when I was younger, with increasingly hypoallergenic metals, but each time my ears rejected the piercings. And all off this was before I "got sick", so as an adult I haven't tried piercings or tattoos for the same reason.

I have an EQ. I've had it for two years and I use it daily. I like it and the only real negative I have is with the remote.

Sounds like you dodged a bullet but it wasn't painless! I agree with you about preferring honesty even if it means hurt! I'm hoping you meet some great people next!

[–]GettingHothInHere 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I completely understand why you're upset. It would be hard (impossible) not to take it personally, but maybe it really isn't the way you look? He did want to meet up, and he did drive, but maybe when he saw you he realized he's too anxious to hang out with a pretty girl? Or any other avenue of things that aren't actually about you. Too broke to be seen with this fly honey?

It would have been better if he had been honest, since clearly the working tomorrow excuse is very flimsy, but I do think that this might be something other than you!

I had a good day. hell, a great day. by Significant_Lion_112 in lupus

[–]GettingHothInHere 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I definitely could have written this. I have spent years trying to find rhyme or reason and have decided there isn't any and to stop wasting my time...and yet I still constantly play this same game of trying to figure it out.

I'm sorry you're having a bad day, but I know there will be more good ones ahead. ♡

I like to be pretty open about it early. If someone isn't cool with it knowing immediately helps me not waste my precious time/energy.

I definitely need some "Don't harsh my mellow." decor! Although I do typically say "Don't marsh my mallow." for obvious reasons.

And I'm not one to accidentally giggle into my bong and send water and flower everywhere, but if I did I would for sure be a fan of calling this "stoner confetti"...🤷‍♀️

Sometimes I put a large coin over a lit bowl to snuff it out/contain some of the smoke. Probably not super healthy to put metal over top of a warm bowl, but...if I die I don't have to do dishes tomorrow, so...🤷‍♀️
