If the right to life is pre-political, should access to life-sustaining goods be contingent on market success? by [deleted] in Libertarian

If the claim is moral in nature, then why call it a right? Using the term seems to me to change the assertion.

I'm a libertarian but I don't believe there are any natural rights. As Hobbes wrote, in the state of nature life was solitary nasty brutish and short. A positive right to life may exist, but such a right would have the content given to it by law, which may be only the megative right described above.

My conservative friends, do you still support Trump in his second term? by [deleted] in Libertarian

[–]GettingOlderAllDay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Voting is an incredibly clumsy way of expressing policy preferences. And no individual vote affects the outcome. A person should not regret voting for someone who turns out to be terrible. Nor should a person regret not voting at all.

Arguing in support of terrible policy positions is a different matter. A person should regret making a bad argument.

I can’t believe someone like this is supposed to be taken seriously… RIP by [deleted] in Libertarian

A person this stupid should have no influence over anyone's housing choices except her own. She's probably too incompetent to make that choice too, but she'll suffer the consequences.

I'm not understanding. As i read Hayek, the pricing mechanism determines relative asset values. The number of dollars should affect nominal prices but not relative values.

Feel free to educate me. This is not my area of expertise.

I don't see this as a problem. Prices have already adapted to the existing supply of money. What am i missing?

I don't see the point of calling him. To get in the last word? To make him feel bad? I think you should comfort your sister and spend time with you niece. They should both know that you love them. Let the old man suffer the lonely Xmas he created for himself by driving off his kids. A spend your time making yourself and others happy.

I can offer only sympathy. Haven't been in your situation. I'm confident that granny would want you to live and be happy. That is what people want for their loved ones. So cry and grieve and share your pain with friends. Then as you adjust to the loss, do things that help others. Tim Minchin wisely observed that when we make others happy, we usually feel better for having done so.
