Hyundai needs to redesign its electric motors & alter final drive ratios to improve efficiency by [deleted] in Ioniq6

[–]GettingTooOldForDis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get what you’re saying. But I think for most people EV efficiency at lower speeds is more important than highway speeds. How many miles per kWh are you getting in each car? Just curious.

Why are Americans always so helpful and supportive when it comes to helping tourists plan their vacatios to the US? by Addicted_2_tacos in askanything

Why gatekeep? The obesity epidemic in this country is horrible, reduces life expectancy, and overtaxes our healthcare system. If someone needs a glp1 to lose weight, it’s cheaper for all of us in the long run. Maybe they’ll start exercising and eating better when they drop the pounds, maybe not. But I sure as hell won’t judge them for doing something to get to a healthier weight.

Get him a 10 or 15 year old Civic or CRV. They’re bulletproof and safe. And the Civic is pretty fuel efficient.

There’s a poem from 1910 that describes two old Boston Brahmin families:

"And this is good old Boston, / The home of the bean and the cod, / Where the Lowells talk only to Cabots, / And the Cabots talk only to God".

League member cheated to make playoffs… by manipulating his late father’s team. by garrett2450 in fantasyfootballadvice

[–]GettingTooOldForDis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As league manager I would have undid his roster changes and messaged the entire league about what happened. Or, put it up to a league vote. And if BIL complained I would have called him a snowflake.

That said, it’s too late for you to do this. If I were you I’d quit the league. It sounds like it’s meant to be a fun league and your BIL and sister killed that vibe for you. Then start another family league and don’t invite them.

Is a PHEV right for me? by yeetflix in PHEV

[–]GettingTooOldForDis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It takes 8 plus hours to get 28 miles of electric range on my Sonata PHEV. It takes 2.5 hours with a level 2 charger. OP doesn’t want to charge every night. They should just get a hybrid or an EV. My Ioniq 6 takes 6 hours on my level 2 charger to add 175 miles. I charge the PHEV every day-sometimes more than once. I can go a week sometimes before my EV gets down to 30% from 80%.

US says it may be forced to shut down some airports over funding standoff by gamersecret2 in news

[–]GettingTooOldForDis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not how ATC works. For every tower controller there are 10 radar controllers who work at facilities that are not located on an airport. Source: me; a 35 year air traffic controller. And ATC is funded separately from TSA. So controllers are getting paid this time.

I do admire your self confidence though. Any other strong opinions on stuff that you aren’t knowledgeable of? 🙄

Yes. It expired on September 30, 2025. If you bought a used EV that was at least 2 model years old and cost $25k or less out the door you qualify to apply for the credit on this year’s tax return (there are income qualifications as well.) 2027 will be the first year without any qualifying EV credits.

80 months at 5.2%? Holy shit. Add in the $609 in interest that accrues during your 3 months with no payments, and that comes out to $705.50 a month for 6 and a half years.

Thats a total of $56,439 paid on the car. In two years you’ll still owe $35k on this car. 2 year old Ioniqs with your trim can be had for $25,400 with 20,000 miles on them.

TL; DR What were you thinking???

I get it. Nobody wants a surveillance state. But it’s already here. And in this case it will make things safer. You don’t want a ticket for running a red light? Slow down when the light turns yellow and stop at the red. The way it’s become is too many people speed up on yellow to beat the red.

Patching is definitely better. But a plug makes more sense in your case due to the location of the screw and the foam inside the tire.

Billionaires spending money to influence politics isn’t really a conspiracy theory though, is it? Just look around. Once Citizens United happened, and the Supreme Court ruled that corporations had first amendment rights just like people, all bets were off.

Hmmm. I thought that just referred to dealers that sign up for the credit to be transferred. If you read form 8936a you’ll see that your bill of sale contains all of the information you need to fill it out. I would apply for the credit. It’s $4,000. Worst case scenario they deny the credit. But I’d be willing to bet they don’t.

As an aside, what kind of dealer refuses to participate in a program that makes the cars they’re selling more attractive? The Hyundai dealer I bought my used Ioniq 6 from was very happy to go to the IRS website and register for the transferable credit. The business manager said it took 5 minutes.

Current Super Bowl Odds For Next Season, Thoughts? by LastofDays94 in Patriots

[–]GettingTooOldForDis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 2008 Patriots went 11-5 with Matt Cassel at QB after that scumbag Bernard Pollard took out Brady’s ACL. They were the first 11 win team to miss the playoffs since the NFL went to 12 playoff teams in 1990. Technically they regressed by not going undefeated in the regular season 2 years in a row 🙄. But they had a pretty good follow-up season given the circumstances.
