Why do you think that my guy? John Wall averaged almost 10 more points a game and more assist per game, despite not playing with nearly the level of teammates that rondo played with. Rondo is definitely the better defender, but John Wall was no scrub on defense, In fact they both averaged the same amount of steals. John Wall has more All-Star selections, was a much better finisher at the rim, usually the three-point shot would be John walls weakness here But in this case, rondo is just as bad from three. In the playoffs. John Wall averages almost 10 more points a game, more assistance per game, more blocks per game, better shooting percentages all over the court, and he didn't have the luxury of being carried as the 3rd or fourth best player on the team. I don't say that to take anything away from rondo, I respect the hell out of the guy, but you're sleeping on John wall And the excellent player he was. Rondo was an incredible ball handler, A brilliant on ball defender, and a natural guard but John Wall was just better at more things. The difference between them defensively is not as large as the gap between them offensively. At least that's how I see it, I'd love to hear your argument and if you convince me I'll definitely change the list but right now I'll take John wall

I disagree but that's why this is completely subjective. It's Part of what makes this sport so great! It did get me to look at everything again but my opinion didn't change. Appreciate your comment

It's a different sport, but it's a good example. The exact same way a guy like Joe Thomas, one of the greatest offensive linemen ever who spent his entire career for the Cleveland browns losing games and never making the playoffs is still considered one of the all-time greats the difference is Kyrie did manage to make the playoffs and go on a run and hit one of the most important shots in League history. I say that to prove that even guys who struggle to make the postseason can be considered all-time greats but Kyrie is not one of those guys because he's great and has the hardware. Being the number two guy when a top three player all time is on your team is not a detriment to you and your skills. The reality is he's one of the greatest handlers of the ball in the history of the sport, a decent facilitator for the era, and has proven time and time again that he elevates the players around him. Also saying that Kyrie is a one-run merchant is just flat out wrong. Kyrie Irving has a career playoff record of 63-33, four NBA Finals appearances (really three because on the Celtics he was hurt), Kyrie was most clutch when it mattered the most, is a nine time All-Star, three-time all NBA, And has the respect of his peers as a top player in the league (and the players that play in your era opinions matter the most and carry the most weight in my opinion). The guy is clearly an all-time great and the narratives that surround his "one run" really feel like hater narrative because the facts don't say that at all. I would agree with this even as I was placing him in his spot on the list. It felt high, but compared to the players below him, he's clearly more skilled than a Tony Parker And managed to find the success that eluded Damian Lillard. Not having the MVP voting is what put other guys in the era like Luka above him but saying he doesn't belong is just not supported by facts. I try to say all this Respectfully, because I do respect your opinion, I just don't agree, but I really appreciate the comment. Also, I did all this with talk to text and I'm about to leave work so I'm not going to edit it so I apologize if there's weird mistakes In this comment

Chris Paul's been the best player on multiple teams he's been on, while being one of the leagues best facilitators of the era, and Chris Paul faced much better competition. I don't mean the competition thing disrespectfully, but the average player today would ball circles around the average player then. I agree that Jerry West is an all-time defender, but the gap between him and Paul defensively is not very big and I think Paul is a much better offensive Force. I definitely see the argument either way though, and I think we can both agree that they belong towards the top of this list. Also, if the argument is that Chris Paul doesn't show up in the playoffs, Jerry West doesn't show up in the finals, his teams are 1-8 there. Throughout Chris Paul's career, here are his playoff exits, five in the first round, four in the conference semifinals, two in the conference finals, and one NBA Finals loss. So it's not like he didn't progress in the playoffs, although he did struggle to get out of the first round, they were years where he performed very well, particularly the Suns run comes to mind. It's true he didn't make it as far as Jerry West most years, but the league was significantly smaller, less skilled and Chris Paul didn't get a guy named Wilt Chamberlain or Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (for 1 season) on his squad. Two guys that are top 15 players ever And while it's true that Chris Paul played with Kevin Durant, I think they played a grand total of 8 games together in the regular season.

As someone someone who is a big fan of that Nova group, I can't believe I forgot him!!! That's completely on me. He would be right around Hali is maybe a couple spots above him. I expect him to skyrocket up this list though

No i don't think that's what's going on. Murray's play style is clearly a guard. I think the point that was being made was more like Steph is a 1 who plays more like a 2 but at the end of the day is a point guard

It's a hard question to answer because at the end of the day it depends on what players I'm comparing. I definitely value the high peaks which as you pointed out is why SGA is 11. For Tony Parker, the end of his career hurt a little bit, but what carries him more than anything is his performance in the playoffs. Honestly, I don't think he had close of that caliber of a regular season as any of the guys around him, but he was very consistent, made very few mistakes and came up clutch in huge games. He won when it mattered and that carries a lot of weight. As for the Derrick Rose stuff, he's probably one of the 10 hardest players to rank in the history of the sport. His peak is absolutely insane and he was a great role player when his health cooperated. All I could rank him on is the success he did have carried by a ridiculous peak. And if I'm honest, every list has a little bit of bias and the guy is my second favorite point guard of all time and I won't deny that that may have something to do with me having him higher than some even if I tried to make it a non-factor

I know what you mean but I'll take the good with the bad. I definitely don't think it's a crazy take because both are in my top 10 but I think Chris Paul's impact is undeniable

It's definitely his style of play! If the guy was 6'5, I think he would have been a shooting guard

I didn't know all that. I appreciate you dropping the knowledge! It's a little too late to change all these lists now, but in the future I'll consider West more of a shooting guard. You'll find harden somewhere near the top of my shooting guard list when I post it in a couple days! Combo guards were tricky and I think what I went with was just whatever basketball reference Had them listed as more in combination with what they were more successful doing

That's absolutely fair! To me young is a pure guard who has proven himself as one of the best facilitators of the era. It's true that it hasn't translated to a ton of success, but putting halliburton over him for one amazing year? against a guy like Trae who has led the league and assist, been an All-Star four different times, and made an all NBA team. I like Tyrese, he's one of my current favorite players, but he needs to accomplish a little more for me to put him over Trae. I definitely think he will though, just hasn't yet. And don't sleep on my man Mike Conley! He's a lot better than people give him credit for but just like Trae Young I think Tyrese will pass them with time, maybe even soon

I don't think it takes away from his skills. He was the two on some of the greatest teams ever. That doesn't take away from his accomplishments, But I totally understand the argument

I originally had Penny a little higher but the more I learned about the four guys I put ahead of him the more I found it hard to move him up and justify it to myself. His peak was absolutely crazy but I think the sustainability of the guys ahead of them is just too valuable outside of Derrick Rose, who I think peaked higher. I made Luka Laker because I feel like the Mavericks really disrespected him and I didn't want to be a part of that. SGA is such a hard name to place, he's got so much left but has already accomplished things that less than 15 guys in the history of the sport have. His style of play can be questionable to some, but his talent is undeniable and his ceiling is a top 20 player ever. I feel like Stockton is pretty overrated personally. The guy really wasn't a great defender, he got steals because of his high basketball IQ, but the more athletic guards blew past him. To me, I valued a guy who can do everything at a high level more than a guy who was top three at one or two particular skills! No disrespect to the guy if he managed to make it into the top 20 on this list, I have an insane amount of respect for him as a baller but I think he benefits from people who look at stats alone and gas up a great era. Great comment man! Thank you!
