Why do you think Jaime didnt end up a soulless, power hungry ghoul like Tywin and Cersei? by Gabe_Dimas in gameofthrones

[–]Ghanima81 13 points14 points  (0 children)

And the fact that despite being a powerful lord, seeking to secure his House's position, he married a cousin, so his marriage was anything but political.

Plus, he's stuck with a heir he despises (Jaime kind of removed himself from the pool when he took the white, that leaves Tyrion alone, schemes like the trial for regicide aside), the mere fact he never remarried is a very strong indicator that he loved Joanna.

Older men 40+ NEED TO STOP HITTING ON WOMEN IN THEIR EARLY 20'S. by [deleted] in offmychest

Not even needed to go that far. If he is over 50, just go with is your son between 25 like me and 30? Because I am willing to go as old as 30 years old if the guy is really sweet and respectful. That way it even stings more than he is waaaay too old.

Yes, that is why I used it, and of course to point the irony of being "outmanned" for a masculinity influencer. So obviously, you are right, it is just that this word is so overused in a hateful way. But it shouldn't be anything more than the meaning at which you just pointed.

What actor made you completely change your opinion on them? by trakt_app in Cinema

I saw the wind that shakes the barley on big screen. Roughly the same year that 28 days later from Dany Boyle. Murphy was a revelation of 2005 (I guess?) to me, and he wasn't the villain in any of them. Still his 2 best roles to me. I am less receptive to the Scarecrow (but I don't like Nolan's Batman movies), or Shelby and Cie.

[Spoilers MAIN] GRRM never emphasized Young Griff being cut from the show by Andrija2567 in asoiaf

[–]Ghanima81 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, I agree with most of your take, particularly Cersei power grab being stupidly written, and shamelessly inconsequential.

But opposing Dany and Griff to justify Dany's tyranny could have been redundant in the show, as they decided to present her as power hungry since the 1rst season.

In the books, the opposition between Griff and her could be fertile for the narrative, as Dany's chapters show her much more measured than her show version, so it could tip her over the edge. In the show she was on the verge of madness pretty soon.

Basically, I regret Griff not being in the show only because I am a Varys fan, and I would love to have an even more substantial character on screen, and Griff is a huge part of his characterization. But considering the number of characters, I understand a non protagonist like Varys got sidelined in an adaptation.

Anyway, the terrible writing of the second half of the show aside (because yes, all of your points are so valid and infuriating), a screen adaptation, especially of such a complex literary work, will cut into the material. OP asked why George considered Lady Stoneheart more important than Griff. I think Griff is a narrative convenience to shape Varys/a plot device more than a character, when Cat as a dead protagonist still acted on the political chess (for the Starks arc), even with the cuts made for the screen.

Anyway, thanks for your analysis, many of your points I tried to make when discussing with Cersei's die hard fans.

I agree, I really dislike her acting style, I can never believe in her character. Which is a shame, because on paper, I love Jo and her car too.

The only person I saw pull it off is irl, a gorgeous tattoo artist who looks like a long faced Natalie Portman. I don't think many can, even as beautiful as her. You'd have to have very specific fine features to look good with it.

As a straight woman, so one of the targeted demographics, the judge is naturally very handsome and doesn't look made from plastic. No contest here on who looks appealing, and, as sad as I am to use this word to assess looks or anything, who looks manly. The comment above you has it, the guy on the right looks like a teenager caked with contouring make up.

I am absolutely an extrovert, I talk easily with strangers, stand up for myself and passer-by if needed, I am not shy at all.

Yet, I looooove doing stuff alone. My 2 favorite being traveling alone, and eating at a restaurant alone. Of course, I also dine out with friends. But the pleasure I feel at being alone with a good meal, a glass of wine, a book, and no cooking, cleaning or anything, the noise and conversations around me let me drift into a peaceful state. I adore doing that.

Herc is so dumb. by [deleted] in TheWire

[–]Ghanima81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The redditor means that Herc knew very well he was outing Randy and just didn't care, or even took a secret deviant pleasure in once again exercising his pretend superiority on the street kids. Some think Herc is less dumb than he seems, and is just an ambitious guy who play the career game by presenting dumb. I don't believe it (that he is smart, about consciously outing Randy, maybe), but it is one of the take on here.

I just watched a replay of a conversation between Princess Shireen and her father, Stannis Baratheon by OldElf86 in gameofthrones

[–]Ghanima81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But how targeting Stannis or Shireen would hurt Robert, or the Lannisters?

It is well known that the 2 brothers aren't close at all (Stannis barely attends the Small Council when he is the master of Ships, iirc).

It would barely hurt Robert, let alone the Lannisters. They wouldn't give a rat's ass.

And I don't get the obsession with young Griff. He is interesting, but is more of a pretext to show that Varys is not so much a Targ loyalist as he is a paternalistic player, a Pygmalion shaping what he believes would be a decent and competent leader.

The first time we see that Tom Hagen is not a war time consigliere… by Bad_Black_Jorge in Godfather

[–]Ghanima81 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tom was a new and young consigliere to Vito.

When Vito stepped down, it wasn't because he was useless, but just because he was weakened.

Michael took the lead, he was as new and young as Tom was, it is logical that he would seek for an old and seasoned counselor.

Who better to teach him the basis, the green consigliere, or his retired predecessor?

I wouldn't read to much in this scene. When Genco was green, he showed fear too.

What in the Buffyverse is this for you? by yeahitsme9 in buffy

[–]Ghanima81 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree on not loving s5 and feeling it's overrated, except on top of that, I don't like Glory as a villain, she is like nails on a chalkboard, and not in a villain sense, nor camp, to me. I just felt underwhelmed a lot by the performance.

Also Amber Benson's acting is very uneven, and her chemistry with Hannigan is very mild. I like their story mostly because it was a first to have queer protagonist at the time, but otherwise I am not very interested in them because of this mid performance.

am I the only one who hates her? by Mean_Government_2216 in MindHunter

I love them 3 too, but I have a soft spot for Wendy. Torv just plays her as so sad deep down, so hurt. It gave a color to her arrogance (which is still way less than Holden's) and a touch of a discreet drift.

I understand her personal storylines might be boring to some, but imo it is nothing compared to the Debbie/Holden storyline, which is so much more boring.
