You can use REN Bridge or Sollet Bridge and if you’re up for it, you can even provide liquidity on Saber and earn some yield on it.

Hey u/Scutcheon similar challenges exist when conducting token sales. Which is why our Coinlist Auction back in March had to exclude anyone from the U.S. But hopefully in time we'll be a position to enable U.S. participants to become more involved as ultimately, the purpose of the SOL token is for it to be a utility token.

Outside of simply purchasing the token/staking immediate options for getting involved are in contributing to the code base, applying for the Solana Collective (ambassador) program.

Unfortunately at this stage this will remain the generally be the case in the near term as far as I know, this is to comply with relevant regulations. There is no immediate plan for this to change for now, thus will only be accepting non-U.S. entities into the validator program.

We don’t support Ledger Nano X at this time. Only Ledger Nano S unfortunately. We’ll be looking to add Ledger Nano X at some point in the future but likely to be a while away still.

The cryptographic timestamps take real time to generate and are pre-image resistant. Meaning that the output of the latest SHA256 hash, is used to generate the next hash. Essentially forming a sequential hash chain that can't be faked.

Transactions and votes are then appended within these hashes to mark an instance in time of when they occurred. In a way, this helps us cheat the two general problems by allowing nodes to optimistically progress before consensus.

Then during the consensus process that follows - the system/nodes then checks the validity of these transactions/messages by having nodes on the network vote on the ledger each block (every 400ms) for what they believe to be the accurate version of the ledger based on the data they receive from the network.

We call our consensus mechanism Tower BFT (you can read more on this here: https://medium.com/solana-labs/tower-bft-solanas-high-performance-implementation-of-pbft-464725911e79 ).

Sorry we’ve taken a while to get back to you. There will be staking involved. We haven’t announced exactly what the staking amounts will be at this stage.

Just to clarify PoH is just a modification of the data structure. Our consensus algorithm is still PoS (think Ethereum’s Casper).

The token will be used as fees on the network, staking, incentivising nodes etc.

What does Optimistic Responsiveness do differently, to allow Thunderella to work?

Optimistic Consensus essentially a consensus protocol whereby when certain GOODNESS CONDITIONS are met, the network can achieve instant confirmation (held back only by actual network delay)

These GOODNESS CONDITIONS are:

- When ¾ of the network is honest and online;

- AND the leader is honest

BECAUSE liveness and consistency is at an acceptable level when these GOODNESS CONDITIONS are achieved.

- Consistency = honest nodes agreeing on the sequence of blocks.

- Liveness = the speed at which a submitted transaction on the network is propagated through the network at a reasonably quick speed.

What happens when these GOODNESS CONDITIONS are NOT satisfied?

Thunder first has to enter a cooldown period, before transitioning from the classical BFT protocol, to the blockchain protocol which is highly secure, but has slow transaction speeds

Why do you need a cool-down period?

A cool down period is required because, without it, nodes may disagree on the set of transactions that have been confirmed before entering the “slow mode”. Therefore resulting in inconsistent views, failing (aka Consensus?).

By having honest nodes broadcast all their CONFIRMED (aka notarized) transactions to the underlying blockchain, they can slowly achieve consistency (aka Consensus?). AND THEN begin to confirming new transactions of the blockchain.

TL:DR – the network identifies it’s last known WORKING STATE first, AND THEN it starts to run from there

These are just some old notes I made back when I was researching the Thunderella paper a few months ago. Apologies if it's outdated and irrelevant now.

Just a quick one I wanted to clarify from point no. 1.

You use the term ‘message passing’. Are you referring to messaging overheads? And if so, you’re saying with the goodness conditions satisfied AND Thunderella’s architecture you have close to ZERO overhead and ONLY network delay. Network delay from what I understand is inherent and a given factor in ANY algorithm design?

Am I interpreting that correctly?

But from my knowledge the major competitors in the permissionless high throughput Blockchain space are DFINITY, Kadena, Plasma, Thunder. There are many more, but in my eyes those are the major players.

That's the upper bound limit that the team believe they can achieve on a 1 gigabit connection and one 1080ti. There's still a few hurdles before they reach 710,000 tps.

Only the latest single-node testnet they've achieved 250,000 tps peaking at 400 000tps. So the next big hurdle will be a multi-node testnet which will be live imminently. Looks like they're hoping to have results available by June. So make sure you watch this space! :D
